    5:57 - Hi Rob, you can adjust the TDP and VRAM for 5800H from the BIOS:
    Adjust TDP:
    Advanced > AMD CBS > NBIO > SMU > SmartShift
    Adjust VRAM:
    Advanced > AMD CBS > NBIO > GFX > Frame Buffer
    I successfully adjusted mine from stock 35W TDP/3GB VRAM to 40W TDP/4GB VRAM. You can push to 45W TDP/8GB VRAM if you like as upper limit.
    With these adjustments, the benchmarks will be quite different. 😊

      Is there any reliability tradeoff bumping the setting to 45w?

      @@imaginova88 For me, there was. 45W TDP kept shutting down the unit under load test like Cinebench.

    What someone needs to do is take years old machines and compare. Most people are replacing older machines. These minis will blow away their old machines but your charts make it look like it’s garbage. It’s half the price of those others when on sale.

    • @imaginova88
      @imaginova88 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good point. I'm looking to replace 11 year old desktop, and tossing up whether to get the 5800 or step up to the 7735hs, but even the bottom of the charts model now will blow away my old system😂

      Yep! I just ordered one for $280 USD. I had like a 15 year old PC I built myself then when it died I bought a sub par pre-built a few years back with a Ryzen 3 I use. I'm hoping this can play literally 2 games. The Coin Game (which ran on my pre built but not well) and I REALLY REALLY hope it can run Door Kickers 2 reasonably.

    Rob, I liked the choices you made for comparison units, as it made clear what you'd get for significantly more money in terms of performance, and that your final evaluation was in that context. I has surprised me that Beelink went with a plastic case for the SER5 5800H since I have the 5600H and it has an aluminum body. (To be fair, I briefly had a 5560u with a plastic case and side-by-side the difference isn't all that obvious. Nice review.

    Your video is great, i am looking for a mini pc which is durable, long working...please tell me if 1 mini pc can work as good for 7-10 years as 1 desktop PC Are not? please help me

      If you only want durability, best to look at Intel NUCs, which are rated for 24/7 operation and have the longest warranties.

    I have his unit with 32gb of ram, its a great little unit, is it worth swapping out the thermal paste at all? If so which thermal paste is the best? Also in the BIOS settings there's options to overclock, any idea what is safe in terms of options? Thanks.

  • @neilquinn
    @neilquinn ปีที่แล้ว +2

    New fancy machines are always nicer, but I agree that for most a 5000 series AMD is plenty for office browsing/etc. Pretty comparable to the i5-1235u in performance. Downside though is only PCIE 3.0, USB3 (not 4), and DDR4. Also no AV1 decode on the igpu. The 6800H/7735HS resolved those issues, but for many none of those things matter at all if you can save $200 or so. Obviously 1/2 the gpu performance too but you don't need that for an office/web browsing machine. That's why I think comparing it against the i5-1235u models makes a lot of sense since they are cheaper too.

    For anyone who owns this mini PC, if you end up installing a 2.5" SATA drive inside, (@1:06) does it block the cooling fan? It looks like it would, which would negate the purpose of having a cooling fan. Can anyone comment? Thanks!

    • @dave_r
      @dave_r ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Josh, I don't remember how long ago it was (couple of months, maybe), Rob compared the difference that little fan makes with and without a 2.5" drive installed and the good news is that while having the drive installed does reduce the effectiveness of that fan, having the fan still helps, just not as much as when the 2.5" drive is empty.

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was a 4C increase last time I tested. Still much much better than no cooling.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It is clear that both Intel and AMD have better cpu and gpu performance mainly because they increased the TDP and power consumption by a lot!! It would be nice to keep the same wattage consumption but still with better performance.
    I change the thermal paste and completely remove the ssd cooler and the whole 2.5 inch ssd and now ny ser5 pro with 5600h is almost a dead silent mini pc. It only uses the cpu fan when pushing to its limits and if I disable the turbo boost it is 99% silent, the fan is completely off.

    What about noise fans after some moths or years of use?. It is a subject that is not talked about much in mini pc world and can really have a profound impact on the user experience in long term. It would be very useful if studies and comparisons between brands/models were also carried out on the quality of their refrigeration systems with respect to prolonged use, with special attention to the moving parts, and what can be expected from in months or years on regards noise and cooling performances. Likewise, if it is easy to repair and/or replace.

    Hi Rob, thank you very mutch for the review. For use that includes Outlook, Excel, browsing and Netflix 4k, will this 5800H be noisier than the 5560U? Or for this type of tasks, will the noise be the same on the 2 mini PCs?

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For those tasks it should mostly stay near the idle fan noise of each unit.

      @@Robtech Thank you. I saw in a review of the Beelink 5560U that AMD had replaced the 5560U CPU with the 5500U, no longer selling the 5560U. Do you know anything about this topic? In the chart for Idle Power, there is one entry for this Beelink Ser5Pro with only 7w and another one for a Minisforum with 10w. That's roughly 40% difference in idle consumption for the same chip?
    Added to that I can see the Ryzen 7735 shown in this list with 8w consumption compared to "another page" showing 12w. Again much difference :/. I'm plannig to buy a mini based on low idle wattage plus capacity with load... and don't know what figures to take into account

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Power consumption is from the wall, not the CPU. Each mainboard, fan, SSD etc. uses different amounts of power.

    • @cuentacasa
      @cuentacasa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Robtech Many thanks for your fast response. What you are saying makes total sense and both mini's (Beelink vs Minisforum) power consumption at idle may vary depending on fan type, ssd type, etc. Nevertheless, isn't a 40% quite a huge delta? The only thing I can think of si that you cought one at idle but recovering from high temperaturs hence with fan running wild
