    UPDATE: I had a chance to test an upcoming build of Batocera v36 and it resolves the issues I had when getting Batocera to boot on this mini PC. So it will be a very capable Batocera mini PC once v36 is released!

      Do you have any idea when Batocera 36 will be released? How did you get the Ser5 to emulate in the interim? Thanks for the vid!

    • @RetroGameCorps
      @RetroGameCorps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BP-hs3wl it usually takes a month or two for final releases to come out. But it's easy enough to install 35 and then update to the latest 36 beta build via their menus, you'll just have to do that part on a PC that is not the SER5 for now. Once you have updated to v36 beta you can then use that sd card/disk drive on the SER5.

      @@RetroGameCorps Awesome, thank you RGC! Last question, would you recommend the SER5 or the Minisforum TH50? I'm super torn betweeen the two. Comparing the videos side by side it looks like the ser5 had better emulation performance, but it does have the thermal concern. Using it for emulation. Please guide me sensei :)

      After 40 Year of playing this "game" I've learned something: Only the machine of your desktop counts. Not what is new - buy one, be happy and then !!! -> don't look any advert in the new 2 years and you are a lucky one 🙂 After 2 year - does it fit's your needs? Then expand the "non advert time" for one year... you'll save a lot of money.

    I think it would be fantastic if you could add more PC games from the PS360 era to your lineup and show how well these run at high settings in 1080p (and thus better than on the respective consoles). It would also be in line with your channel name !

    Just snagged one of these for $367 off Amazon after getting sick of the build a budget pc that makes me happy game. I'd just learned of this Beelink device a week ago and was thrilled to find the lower price. Loved your video, I'm super excited to get mine here in a couple days. I mostly play retro games but I've been stockpiling games I couldn't currently run on my old pc for a couple years now so I'm expecting a lot of satisfaction. Only issue I really noticed is the wifi would disconnect after a while and had to disable re-enable which I was able to fix with a driver from another motherboard posted on some reddit forum. 6:13 - I have the R7 5800H variant with the following BIOS adjustments:
    40W TDP (stock 35W)
    8GB VRAM (stock 3GB)
    Cinebench: 9978 pts
    A few tweaks in the BIOS can dramatically increase performance. Cap the temp at 80C with Ryzen Controller and the SER5 Pro is the best bang for buck midrange without spending a small fortune on the higher-end GTR.

It's SHOULD still be available because the specs on her system FAR exceeds all other mini computers. Here are her specs....
    Beelink 5900HX GR9 GTR5 Mini PC, AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX (up to 4.6GHz), Mini Gaming Computer 64GB DDR4 1TB NVMe SSD, 4K@60Hz Triple Display HDMI&DP&Type-C 54W WiFi6E BT5.2 Dual 2.5Gbps LAN

      exactly! actually it goes for 659EUR without any rebate on .de 😞Same situation here too, every time i see these nice mini pc performing so well for those prices, then i check back here in EU and boom..

    • @programaths
      @programaths 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Andrea-dc4iz You are actually slowly realizing why EU is not US. You will hear US citizen have on average 3 times EU net salaries, that their product is about 3 quarter of the price of us.
      You'll also hear the classical lie that healthcare is expensive. Well, much cheaper than in countries where it's "free".
      The thing is that if an USA citizen pay an health insurance, then it's more affordable than here. I pay around 144€ per year, which would translate to roughly 576$ and that's without accounting for the exchange rate, just the buying power.
      American also have a tendency to buy in bulk, it's why they have the laughably big jug of milk and juice. So, it drives cost of living even more.
      And yes, we can see rent going from 1000$ to 3000$ a month... well, I pay 1000€ a month and not alone. So, even rent is effectively cheaper.
      In fact, it's the same effect as when we hear that 86 Fahrenheit is hot (30 Celsius).
      EU is heavily taxed. An employer pay at least twice the salary, the employee pays between 30% and 50% of it's salary back to the state. There are taxes on products we buy too.
      It can drive the effective tax ((1-final net)/(original gross)) up to 80% to 90%.
      Belgium is one of the worst countries in that regard.
      Also, we still have to pay for health insurance, it's even mandatory and a bit more expensive than in the US by buying power.
      In Belgium. we had the issue that some people worked to USA, but didn't save for retirement. They came back and the country couldn't really pay them as you usually receive a percentage of what you forcibly saved through various taxes and retirement participation. So, they ended up on social warfare. One may think it made a dent to the state finances: it didn't! It was just news worthy.
      There is so much wasted money that a bit of more waste was just drowned. It's as bad as it can get. There were even TV Shows based on wasted money and they all disappeared ^^
      And before the elections, ministers validate a lot of construction work, to show they are doing something. Often wasting money to undo something they did few years ago, There are area that are switching between two configurations as election happen ^^
      Still, roads sucks for the most part. Even on side walk, you pray for your ankles.

    • @CoPoint
      @CoPoint 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Andrea-dc4iz Yeah, 659 is the second best offer on .de, at the moment - yesterday there was a 40 EUR rebate on that one, the 649 -50 is still on (but maybe you have to have Prime to get that...). Cool little machine, yes, but not for that kinda money - plus, the cooling system seems a bit close to the edge for this one, for my taste...
      Welcome to the "Look what I got here for a great price..." - "Yeah, no, not here, for that price..." club 😞...
      Plus, half of those things you can't get at all, without a ton of crowdfunding shenanigans before - call me old-fashioned, if you want, but I like to _buy_ stuff, instead of sinking my money now, and then waiting six, nine, twelve months to _maybe_ get something, that by then has changed 'somewhat' from what they announced 😉...

    And that's just 7 CUs of VEGA, imagine 12 CUs of RNDA 2 like the 6800u at 28W - if there is more power the 6000 series H chips ofc.
    APUs are getting very viable for low end gaming, can't wait to see Zen 4 APUs with RDNA 3. Should power through almost everything at 1080p in a mini PC form factor.

    I know it's dumb, but you should test Paper Mario The Thousand Year door on devices like this. But, specifically, you should test at the very beginning when the ship turns around. Bounding Box on that game is super resource intensive. Even on my GTX 1070 it slowed down when that ship turned around when I had it at 1080p.

    This may be stupid but when I click on the link, the options are not for the chip R5 5600H. Instead they are R5 5500U or R7 5800H. Both have good coupons and are cheaper than when this was reviewed. Is there one I should get? I want to play up through PS3 with some Wii U and switch games as well.

    Great video as always, but the choice of the Linux distribution is the worst. Of course you have bad performance because Holo OS is using old drivers and an old kernel. In the future, you should switch to something like PopOS, Manjaro or even Nobara OS.

    Too bad about thermal throttling this means that the old SER4 is still very good in comparison simply because it can change and go up to 50W TDP without thermal throttling.
    From where I live (outside US) I can find one Chinese seller who offered $470 for SER4 and SER5 for $490 considering I have no need for the latest model as my use are mostly old PC gaming and web browsing.
    PS3/360 era games no newer than early 2013 the PC version of those era games I'll be mostly playing on these MINI PCs.

    I'm looking for a bit of advice. I recently got the GT king pro for my emulation needs as running the Xbox series X for my usual lengthy gaming sessions has become rather expensive these days. However I'm looking to move my emulation up a notch. I've been looking at the ser5 pro 5600h and the see 4700u. The ser5 pro would be the top end of my budget at £369 for the 16gb one, that's direct from beelink. The ser 4700u is more budget friendly at £299 for the 16gb one. My main question is can both these boxes run Teknoparrot games and cemu/3DS easily? I would also be looking for easily playing supermodel 3, model2 as well as Dreamcast and Saturn games? Although the latter two I plan on modding both my Dreamcast and Saturn in the near future with ode once prices start to drop. Also in terms of power consumption how would this sit next to the GT king pro? I do have a capable pc but again not power consumption friendly. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated 🙂

    Is it better to buy the 5560U instead of the 5600H? performance difference is very less, more importantly Beelink is running the 5600H at lower TDP of 35W instead of rated TDP of 45W so any small performance advantage will be negated.
