You need to clean the window frame and glass before apply to make sure the sealant sticks permanently.

Yep! We did that with the flashing. Windows were leaking as well!!! Super easy and cost saving fix!

The water also can come in when its very cold outside and warm inside the condensation causes the steam to form on the window and it drips down on the window seal

Why not use masking tape along the area to be caulked? Does it not work? Any tips on creating a clean straight caulk line?

never tried it. just run finger down the line and have lots of paper towels

Clean with soapy water first! THEN Spray it with a water mister first that way the silicone doesnt stick to your finger and it makes a clean seal!

It sounds gross BUT my late husband and I had multiple rentals and did all of the maintenance. He swore spitting on his finger and running it along the line gave the best finish - and it really did!

in my experience it works, that's how i do the tub/shower area with tape and also where the kitchen counter meets the wall. keeps it very neat.

THANK YOU. I have had leaks and wondered if I should caulk around the outside of my windows. Great video that may say me a lot of $$$$'s

With silicone you’ll want to smooth with denatured alcohol

409 on your finger before running over also = life hack

      Absolutely wrong
Every major manufacturer says not to use liquids to tool with if you look close enough at their tech manuals. Here is what DOW ( one of the largest silicone manufacturers in the world ) says: NOTE: Do not use liquid tooling aids such as water, soap or alcohols. These materials will interfere with cure, adhesion and create aesthetic issues.

Use nail varnish remover to remove dirt and grease before using silicone to guarantee a good seal.

Hi Gloria. In this case I had no idea. So I applied to every place possible. It worked.

@@Mity_Moose Nice video. I'm in a condo 40' off the ground so I don't want to get on the exterior of the building that high off the ground. Management company says windows are my problem, not theirs. So do you think sealing the interior of the window will suffice or a waste of time? Thanks.
