  • This is a documentary made by a group of Commits students as a part of their college assignment on a village called Mattur near the city of Shivamogga, Karnataka, South India; which is on the banks of the river Tunga. Mattur has been known as 'Sanskrit Village,' as most of the people in this village speak Sanskrit as their common language.
''This documentary won second at the Carte Blanche National Film Festival at Garden City College, Bangalore on Oct 23, 2013.''

If this had happened all over India...even from the time of Independence..then I only can imagine how far India would have been today.... instead we have just remained to be worn out copy of colonial Britain...it's really depressing to see

It gave me goose bumps @ 2.17 when acharya Girish said their ancestors are from Sengottai, Tamil Nadu. I am a thamizh brahim Iyengar. I studied in S.A.O.H.S School (which is a part of Sanskrit College, Mylapore, Chennai). I studied Sanskrit There. Really a good sight to see this village people developed a mixed language called "Sankethi" 🙏🙏

@@anandtheertha5150 Sorry Son (I am assuming you are younger to me. I am 45) and I am Intermediate in speaking Kannada (but wanting to communicate fluently - because when you fluently communicate in a language, that is when you get to know the real culture of people in our country) and also know to read in Sanskrit. Hence I could understand what Acharya said. Cheers !!! (P.S - Sorry for responding late)

@@keralaputhra9911 You Malayalis try to spread Malayalam to whole world. I know that. Whichever video in TH-cam, if a Malayali appears, either he writes in Malayalam or he will say "from Kerala". First be Indian man.

@Ganesh not be just an malayali if one tamilan write they will introduce them as a tamilan... That is ours traditional culture... India is not united for a singel unique language or single culture Union.. India is united for versions of cultures and language that is india... Like a mazhavillu rainbow they have many color but we can't see them separately they stand for same name and same thing not for a one major color⚡️.
You indians are to be proud to be thing as first india thought.. Then go and learn to how to give respect to Indians first classical language and how to respect first indian language and how to respect longest living survived language... Then can say india is first... But first you should learn to respect reality and eligibility....
Which language is eligible then we can use national language as that language... Which culture is eligible we want to make that culture as ours... I know many English in my writing are wrong and but i don't know hindi... Hindi and English both are eligible same like quality because English and Hindi is daughters of indo aryan language... English have same quality and pride and unique equality than hindi... So English is the comfortable language... And English is pure indo aryan language than hindi🤣.. Hindi is not only indo aryan hindi is mixer language of urdu as well so i think English is better than Hindi... Total india united with indo aryan language hindi😍❤

*Yups ! I am myself from Mattur, Karnataka, South India. There are a group of Brahmin people who have occupied our village Maatur. The village name is a chaste Tamil word. Earlier in this place various local tribes of Paraiahs were living. These new comers, the so called present kannada Brahmins are living here. Their mother tongue is actually kannada but it's just that they are studying & trying to communicate in clinically/biologically dead Sanskrit and as well trying to fool the world that Sanskrit is being still spoken in India. Please don't be fooled by these fake news/videos on TV/TH-cam. I can make a video on TH-cam that Bengali is being spoken in California and claim that Americans speak Bengali which is utter absurdity. Sanskrit was never spoken here in the distant past. These are kannada Brahmins learning and obviously trying to communicate in Sanskrit but it's not an Indigenous language of Mattur of Karnataka. If the locals & govt of India is trying revive the dead Sanskrit, then it should be appreciated as dead Hebrew was also revived recently by the Israeli govt/people. But truth should be presented to the world as it is. so it is not spoken in Mattur since ancient days but these people are trying to revive it since last decade. Peace....*

Maybe you are fool or ignorant..
Tribes are formed in group first then they later divide in many parts and take the knowledge with them..
Kannada is also not indigenous, it also came from some other part.
Marathi, haryanvi, gujrati, bhojpuri developed from Sanskrit only by group of people..
Take ur dravid Periyar shit to somewhere else.

This is just a very ignorant and incoherent statement. Yes, it was said that their ancestors came from Tamil Nadu and they also speak Kannada but are tyring to revive Sanskrit by making it a medium of communication. It's a revival strategy similar to what happened in Israel. I really don't know what you're talking about when you say truth should be presented.
