  • Mattur, a tiny village on the banks of the river Tunga, is one of the very few places in the world where residents still converse in the classical language of Sanskrit.

It's so sad to see what treasures our ancestors entrusted us with and what we made out of this MOST beautiful country on Earth - our motherland INDIA... Sanskrit and vedas and our ancient traditions fill me up with so much of pride and joy that is beyond words

I'm a Bengali, and I'm glad these people are still working hard to preserve our Indian culture.
If in 1947 transfer of power not happened, our indigenous Sanskrit could've been a bridge between us, and currently I would be commenting this in Sanskrit 💔

They say Sumerian is the most ancient language, and ancient Egyptian also, but they are dead languages because no one speaks them. This makes Sanskrit the oldest, continuously spoken language in the world, this humble village has kept this priceless tradition alive.

I went there thinking people'd converse in Sanskrit but they actually converse in Sankethi. The college however teaches Sanskrit Grammar Nyaya and other important subjects. TN Girish was kind enough to spare some time and answered all of my questions. The Pejawar seer ordained the folks to teach and spread the knowledge of Sanskrit. Some overseas students were also studying there, accommodation was provided by the college at a nominal price.

@@hareneishnadhar Tamil is also not an Indian Language for that matter, if Sanskrit isn't native. The Onge and Jarawa Languages are native and Truly Indian, not Tamil, since the Dravidians came later frm Africa than the Indo-Europeans. Only, the Dravidians managed to reach India 9000yrs ago and wiped out the native languages of India similar to Onge and Vedda languages, even no one spoke Tamil 7000yrs ago.

Karnataka was once part of Great Vijayanagara Empire. Here, Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Tulu were spoken. No Languge was Superior or Inferior. South India is divided today based on our Languages. Congress and PFI want Karnataka to be like Kerala and Tamil Nadu. We will never allow this to happen !!!
We are Proud of both Sanskrit and Kannada !!!.

*Yups ! I am myself from Mattur, Karnataka, South India. There are a group of Brahmin people who have occupied our village Maatur. The village name is a chaste Tamil word. Earlier in this place various local tribes of Paraiahs were living. These new comers, the so called present kannada Brahmins are living here. Their mother tongue is actually kannada but it's just that they are studying & trying to communicate in clinically/biologically dead Sanskrit and as well trying to fool the world that Sanskrit is being still spoken in India. Please don't be fooled by these fake news/videos on TV/TH-cam. I can make a video on TH-cam that Bengali is being spoken in California and claim that Americans speak Bengali which is utter absurdity. Sanskrit was never spoken here in the distant past. These are kannada Brahmins learning and obviously trying to communicate in Sanskrit but it's not an Indigenous language of Mattur of Karnataka. Peace....*
