very underrated, appreciate this take on the series as "same shit but fun shit" is really refreshing to hear and what these games strive to be. Like yea, they're all similar and there's not much new to add from game to game, but you just know that you will have the same good time either with friends or by yourself for each game. Although, New Super Mario Bros. U as a launch title for the Wii U was a bit ambitious.
I truly cannot understand these people who complain about the NSMB games being the same concept as all the other games. That is the point of them being released under the same franchise name as previous games: It's the same essential idea, just more of it. New levels in the same format.
Very refreshing take! I like having a game series to fall back on that I know won't turn to shit (hopefully) and wonder kind of solidifies that with me. It's almost like they took the whole complaint of nsmb being 'boring' and decided 'oh yeah? It's boring? Fuck it. Random cool bullshit go!!' And I'm absolutely stoked to see what the devs decided to do, because it seems like each level has its own wonder gimmick. Needless to say I'm super excited
I've played NSMB countless times, it's one of my favourite DS games. For a long time, I've disregarded any of the other NSMB games because they looked a little more "corporate" in comparison, removing some of the charm the original game gave me. I've since tried (and haven't yet beat) Wii and 2, and have enjoyed them so far. The first game will most likely stay my favourite, but nowadays I am much more open to try new games.
Agreed, the first game had some really cool stuff. I really enjoy its 'puzzle and spectacle' approach to powerups. Edit: Also had the best soundtrack of the games, the desert, castle, and beach themes in particular are awesome.
u know, this video makes me want to revisit the games with a fresh mindset. I always liked NSMB Wii but didn’t get the same enjoyment out of Wii U, which I played during the era of the internet hating on the series. Maybe that rubbed off on me. I’ll give it another shot
i didnt realize how annoying it was hearing "nintendo released the same game like 4 times" argument was until i saw this video sure, its not an invalid point, theyre all really similar and its not crazy to want something new but they're still really really good. i like playing them
"How often do you hear about a game with a good story and lacklustre gameplay?" Undertale "How often do you hear about a game with good gameplay but a lacklustre story?" Every single Mario game?
@@TheSultan1470 Well, what do you mean? You mean Undertale, or the Mario games? If you mean Undertale, admittedly, some of the harder bosses are pretty engaging, but overall, the actual gameplay isn't anything too special. If you're talking about the Mario games... they do have extremely lacklustre stories.
@@wooper2654 The Mario stories. There's not a lot to them but there doesn't need to be. I don't know what the appeal of Undertale is, on the other hand.
@@TheSultan1470 99% of the Mario stories are extremely lame, "Peach kidnapped by Bowser, go save her" and tbh they don't NEED to be complicated stories with characters that grow and develop. They're MARIO GAMES! Even in the New Super Mario Bros. series which all 5 literally have the exact same story, you can still count of them to allow you to have fun just enjoying the gameplay. Mario games aren't about the stories. If you want a Mario game with a good story, please go play Super Paper Mario for the Wii, and do it blind without spoilers or anything. The appeal of Undertale for the most part is the stories and the characters. The amount you feel for and care about the characters will directly affect your enjoyment of the game. If you simply don't care about the characters and don't care enough to try to get immersed in the story, you aren't going to enjoy the game.
the writing is soo good, i cant wait to see new content in the future, i loved the tomodachi video and had a huge laugh again and again keep up the great work
These games are underrated as hell. Like sure they're boring back to back but they all bring something unique and I love them all for it :)

i was one of these people, but i guess you changed my mind
If you had to play the same game for 6 years, then yeah, I'd be sick of it after the 4th entry.
the goombas at 2:35 were stomped on beat and for some reason that satisfies me so damn much

NSMB on DS was the first game iv 100%! Collected and completed every objective to do!
Glad to see other people enjoy these games, I never understood the disdain for them

I’m glad they actually decided to take a (small) risk and do something finally new with Super Mario Wonder
0:20 The Last of Us
0:23 The Last of Us Part 2

NSMB 1 is definitely the best though
Awsome take love the nsmb series 👍

I mean... "lacklustre" in that it's basic and straightforward.
