    17:09 this is absolutely crazy to have caught this event. It is well known in organic gardening, that soil is your ally. Yes pests will try to get through, but the vast majority doesn't make it to their destination.
    This is a really cool exemple, fungus literally hunting nematodes, but only few photographes had been taken to prove it. This channel is gold for those interested in organic gardening, to have a better understanding of soil.

    Wow!
    This is stunning footage! I know how demanding collecting and slide preparation can be, quiet apart from capturing it so nicely!
    Inspiring text and voice, too.
    And the ambient music sounds like it's a (hologram) microcosm of it's own.
    Can't wait to see James efforts in fluorescent staining.

    I used to watch your videos every time they were published, and then for some reason youtube stopped showing them in my feed. I forgot about it, and then remembered a couple of years down the line how much I really really enjoyed them. I actively sought out your channel again, and am now enjoying this video as a catch up. I was already subscribed and set up for notifications, but youtube being youtube obviously thought I'd rather watch videos about cats being dicks instead.

    This video is how I envision Hell. I think Heaven and Hell are concepts, not places... but the concepts playout here on Earth, because that's where human concepts exist. Hell is a constant cycle of being devoured. It takes a long time for a consciousness to go through this cycle and emerge into a less chaotic existence. The great consciousness reset. Then the consciousness progresses through more complex forms and eventually making it to more visible sizes. Then on up through insects and on up to greater life forms. Sometimes making it all the way to mammals. The theory being that each step is less chaotic than the last, usually because of greater powers of perception. I believe there is a certain amount of vague information retention, that can help a consciousness advance. Kind of like when a person who believes in reincarnation, will call someone an "old soul". Meaning that they somehow seem to have an awareness that others do not. I blame this effect on the different paths (and the different lengths of those paths) that consciousness takes to reach its current spot in its eternal journey.
    My definition of life is something that can perceive one moment, and then perceive the next moment, and then be able to remember the difference between the two moments, even if the only difference is chronological. We are mired in an existence of cause and effect and currently those are the limits of our perception. That is why the observation experiments in physics are so enticing to me. It may be an arena where cause and effect goes out the window. It could be a path to the Heaven(ish) effect that would end chaos. Even though to our current limited perception, it seems to exaggerate chaos.
    Concerning observation: I believe observation is essential to existence. With no life anywhere to perceive... nothing exists. I believe that life's evolution and the cosmos's evolution go hand in hand, and either both began at the same time, or they have no beginning, or... beginning and end are simple concepts and all that we can currently perceive (cause and effect), and once we are a more perceptive lifeform (or some other more perceptive lifeform appears), then the concept of a beginning and an end my seem ludicrous, in the same place it once seemed essential.

    • @johnthecloud
      @johnthecloud 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a really interesting insight. When I saw these videos I got a quite materialistic view. I saw organisms floating around with apparent purpose, but I interpreted that as biochemical reactions to the environment, because - although they are really complicated in terms of biochemistry they are simple in terms of what we would understand as being intelligent. I saw their behavioyr as a complicated reaction to external electrochemical stimuli, and I suddenly saw what we call consciousness and intelligence as just a more complicated reaction. It took the mysticism out of it. Sure we might not be able to understand consciousness because of its complexity, but we can understand electrochemical reactions, and extrapolate that out from single celled organisms to multicellular life. Close to simple, from a distance insanely complicated.

    • @johnthecloud
      @johnthecloud 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess your view that the universe has to be observed to exist is a bit like the Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics. It might true. It's the old does a tree make a sound when it falls down in a forest, if no one is around to hear it. As a kid I always said yes of course it does, something doesn't need to be observed to be considered to happen, but now I'm not as sure of myself,

    • @skipbellon2755
      @skipbellon2755 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnthecloud I believe there is a connection somehow between the physical being and a universal consciousness. There is only one conscious, and we all tap into it. Once tapped into, our physical form determines the type/quality of the conscious and that form is ever changing, leading to a constantly changing consciousness, even within a single living thing. Whether a human or an insect or a plant. A physical injury or disease can drastically change the conscious. Or a traumatic event... or a good event... etc. Those things that physically change the brain change the creature and thereby change the conscious. If one were religious (I think there are hints at truth in religions and myths and legends), one might call it the Holy Spirit... if one was a sci-fi fan it could be called, the force.

    I wonder, when I leave my dogs pool for a few weeks it starts getting some brown/green stuff on the bottom. Over time this stuff collects into lumps like small colonies with a very clear and clean border like something is living there and collecting everything within 1cm reach to make a shelter. I can't see anything obvious and big so I assume it belongs to the microcosmos.
    I can't find any pictures of this phenomenon or descriptions of what is happening or which microorganisms are at work. Any ideas?
