In the sort of £50-60 sweet spot, and weird with it I like the EHX Hot Tubes. Really love the unique tones from it, has as much character as many old amps. It's an original circuit, there's nothing much like it, and it's really affordable. If you can stretch to the Hot Wax, you get a very flexible dual drive Crayon/Hot Tubes pedal that covers a lot of dirty ground. Shout out to the GUPTech DOnut too, because Crowther Hotcakes sound fantastic, a match made in heaven for a VOX AC30. and there aren't many affordable options out there for around $100. And I love their styling and colour options, as well as the great tones. EHX Octavix sound glorius too, and a bargain for an octaver fuzz. I always assumed the hot tubes was just a clean body, so I never really gave it much attention. I might have to get one in, it sounds right up my street 👍
@@BudgetPedalChap It can be a clean boost. But, really I think of it as quite a dirty little grotbox pedal. It's some odd CMOS chip-based circuit. Has some of the character of fuzzes that sound like amps cooking full bore, maybe like what a Way Huge Swollen Pickle does, or even a Turbo RAT. But, it's a warmer, tubier sound that's less aggressive. That kinda reminds me of a Tweed driven very hard. Like what you'd hear on a amped up Neil Young record like 'Cinnamon Girl'. edit: yeah, just checked and seems Cinnamon Girl was a 1959 Fender Deluxe Tweed maxed out full volume. That's what I'd compare Hot Tubes too, but maybe with a bit more grind/crunch and hair, like a cooking AC30. And a fuller bass, like the Nobles ODR-1.
