Running Trix 25027 DR Br 02.0314 & Roco Br02 0201 in Excursion Style. (Marklin 39027, Roco 63198)

  • A plausible video of what could be an excursion run with models of DR Br 02.0314 and Br 02.0201 steam locomotives running in parallel tracks if the former prototype would be in working order. Both are high speed brake test locomotives that were one of kind rebuilt around 1960 in the DDR.
    Inspired on videos of parallel track runs in Geislinger grade in Germany and when UP FEF 844 ran together with SP GS4 4449.
    The Br 02.0314 is a Trix 25027 (Marklin 39027) just recently released. Not going into specifics, I am pleased surprised. It is natural that Marklin had to step up details of this model, because Roco's Br 02.0201 it is one of best models in their line.
    I can see improvements on diecast boiler and tender parts, as well as in the plastic details. I like to see that pilot and trailing trucks now show rivets on. There is even plastic detail of linkage of inner cylinders, although in black plastic. It is a great model and priced right considering extra lighting and the dynamic smoke unit.
    One criticism is that for Trix models. They still come with 2mm deep "pizza cutter" flange on wheels. it looks so non prototypical and very toyish. How many of us ran this models on Trix International track. C'mon Marklin, times have changed. Make models that can run on popular Code 100 NMRA tracks.

    Roco's sound file is amazing. Roco's smoke unit is putting out a lot of smoke. Also like the Roco color scheme better.

      On my pictures of the original 18 201 the green is darker then this one from Roco.

    Oh that World be nice, if "Jimmo" (18 201) and "Schorsch" (18 314) World be of an Excoursion into the States.
    Both Locomotives are preserved today. 18 314 ( Former 02 314) is today in the Technikmuseum Sinsheim and 18 201 ( Former 02 201) will return into running, is still in Restauration.
    Thos models in the Video are very fines. You can even hear the difference in the Sound. Jimmo has 3 Cylinders and Schorsch has 4.

    18.314 is unlikely ever to return to working order. There just isn't the funding for it (it has some damage to the inside cylinders) and Sinsheim are unlikely ever to agree to release it.

      I know. It has been almost 40 years that she was transfer from DDR to then West Germany. If there was some intent to restore it to running condition, it would happen long time ago.
      But at least it is preserved for display. And I am very glad that Marklin made this model. Long time waited.

    For the Trix locomotive shown here (25027) can anyone tell me the most appropriate passenger carriages I can use to make up the train.. The ones here in this video look great. Let me know, from the range that Trix, Marklin, Roco or Brawa may have in their current selection.. It will be much appreciated.

      The Br 02.0314-1 did not operated as regular express passenger locomotive. It was used as high speed locomotive to test breaking on passenger cars.
      That is basically there are no pictures of it pulling a complete train set. I was told that occasionally it did, but also no specifics of what routes it did.
      This locomotive was withdrawn from service in 1971 and was stored for a long time. It was brought from East Germany to West Germany in the mid 80’s, but it was never brought to running conditions.
      So, what you need to look for are DR passenger wagons of era between 1960 and 1971.
      Piko and Roco have 2 sets 3 cars in dark green. One set come with Mitropa restaurant car. I think these are okay for this locomotive. If not they just came shortly after.
      I do think that Marklin missed an opportunity not releasing passenger wagons for this locomotive.

    Hi there I was wondering for some confirmation does this Marklin 39027 need the marklin 3 rail track to run or can it operate on normal 2 rail track? Thank you

      This is a Trix 25027. It is DCC 2 rail. It is an essence same model of Marklin 39027, MFX 3 rail. The only differences are the wheelsets and power pick up design for each system. Modern Marklin/Trix decoders are the same. So, they are all MFX and DCC able.

    Which brand of waggon manifacturer are the waggons at 3:26 to 4:31 ?

      These are Sachsenmodelle UIC type of early 1990’s. Note that some have DR and other DB markings. These are very late Ep III and early IV. Now they are made by Tiling and Roco. I also think that Piko also make then in orange cream scheme.

    How did you get the Roco 02 to smoke so well? Mine is kind of spitting.

      Hi,
      Mine has been retrofit by me. I replaced the original Roco NMRA 8 pin decoder board and Loksound 3.5 decoder by NIX Decoder Buddy Mini board with 21 pin MTC connector. I then opted to install a Zimo MX645 decoder.
      I did these changes because I wanted to update this model up to today’s decoder capabilities. So, I replace the incandescent bulbs with LEDs, installed firebox, cabin and running gear lights.
      Last, I added a sugar cube speaker in the tender and TCS Keep Alive device to keep constant current continuity. This may contributed for good smoking of Seuthe unit.
      Any way, if you ran in DCC, you should use a Seuthe unit that works between 10-14v. Most DCC systems operate around 14v. If use this model in AC Marklin system the voltage is 16v. Then the Seuthe unity for this voltage is differently rated to 16-22v.
      So, if doesn’t smoke well, you may using a Seuthe unit for Marklin in DCC.
      Or measure voltage and amp load where the Seuthe unit connects to lomotive chassis is less than 14v.
      That usually means that there is no good ground connection between decoder and smoke unit.
      Simple, right?

    The Trix/Märklin Locomotive looks better. The colors and all seems more like a real one. The Roco one has a bit cheaper design.

      I believe your opinion has to do more with brand bias. They are both very good models on its own right. The Roco model is actually nearly 15 years old now. So, in many ways, still being better detailed.
      Marklin/ Trix latest steam locomotives have improved a lot of detailing for the last 4 years.
      Mechanically, the Roco model still sounding. I redid the tender decoder board upgrading with 21 pin MTC decoder, new speaker and new LED lighting functions.
      They are very comparable now.

      @@truebras honestly I like both brands. I use Märklin/Trix, Roco and Piko on my Layout. Fine machines. Roco vectrons for example are the best vectrons you can buy. But in case of these 2 machines I prefer the Trix one.

      They have different colours. The 02 0201 had two different green colours like the 02 314 green and one time she was red
