    You can't just invite an introvert to a concert same day. We need at least 2 months notice before we say no.

    I have never felt so heard and validated before. Explaining my "nothing" days to my mostly extroverted family has always been a fundamental struggle. Even though this is meant to be a funny skit it really does hit the nail on the head for me.

    • @lisagd22

      My father has never understood my need for "nothing" days. Instead, he'd (figuratively) yell at me and call me lazy. I haven't lived with my parents for 35 years, but I still feel like I'm doing something wrong if I'm not doing something productive. I'm going on vacation soon to a cabin in a state park that has no TV and no Wi-Fi. I'm going to do nothing productive, and I'm not going to feel guilty about it.

      while i avoid large groups of people, other people per se are not the biggest problem for me.
      the most exhausting thing is small talk, especially when strangers just start talking to me. that's very irritating. it's like, don't ask me about the weather (because you can just take a look outside or around you), or ask me how i am (because i will tell you).
      i'll be happy to engage in more serious conversations with one or two other persons, though, if they are able to get to the point quickly.
      so, i guess it's more about unnecessary and prolonged contact, not contact in itself.

I enjoy them and I love them, I love talking to My family and having PLANNED visits ( never just drop in on an introvert)..but after they leave I need at least a few weeks to recharge. As an introvert I love this video. A lot of people don’t understand them and think they are just being rude when in reality they just want their alone time and social interaction is hard for them sometimes. I remember one at work my coworker asked me if I wanted to go to a restaurant with her and some other coworkers after work and I said no I was tired and just wanted to relax at home and she got an attitude and said everyone was tired from work and were still going. I said well they may have the energy for that but I don’t. That’s the struggle introverts go through on a daily basis

    • @chocochipcookie8343
      @chocochipcookie8343 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's all communication and understanding. Hardest things in human existence.
      If I was the coworker who'd asked, I'd ask on one more occasion, then stop. After that, stop. Wait for the other person to put together the initiative. It's a delicate line of ensuring you aren't pushy, and also understanding signals. For example, you're being truthful, but the same line gets used to mean "I'm uninterested in y'all" and pushing against that can be incredibly negative and unwanted.
      So, offering a second opportunity later on, then giving space until someone lets you know they'd like to do a thing seems to be a solution, while keeping communication open. Asking the initiator to keep asking isn't, I think, great as it crosses so many social complications, and also risks overstimulating the other person.
      It's a tricky social dance, though, since now the introvert will need to step forward.

      I am one of those who thinks it’s rude to ignore plans/texts. I respect introverts who respond saying I don’t have the energy today, or I’ll get back to your text next week. Some alone time (reading, exercising) gives me energy and other alone time (TV, overeating) drains my energy.

Mental health is important and self-care is important, but being honest and direct and clear with people you supposedly care about is important too. Avoidance is no way to nurture those few relationships people like me actually have. Just tell them the truth and they'll be more understanding and forgiving. I am a nurse and an introvert. I hate when people disturb my leisure time. One time is My boss called me after i had ended my day shift to let me know we dont have enough staff in the evening because someone decides to not show up because he got angry his leave wasnt approved for that day. Anyway, my boss said i live nearby the hospital and didnt have any particular plans that evening so i was the perfect person to call back and do a double shift. My boss had the audacity to say i need to come to work because they have no one else. I told her i had been working double shift for three days straight, had no rest days and been working straight without a day off for two weeks, and now i had to sacrifice my only rest time to cover your lazy staff. What gets me is that even my colleagues were talking bad about me not taking that double shift because they were severely short staffed and the ward was hectic and busy af. They said the same thing about me not doing anything at home but still refuses to do double shift. I don't consider coco puffs to be self care. But I have learned to get more-or-less healthy food that's easy and quick to prepare. After being around people all day, I'm drained. Eating a decent meal, along with the alone time, helps me replenish my energy.
    Now if I could have a personal assistant go grocery shopping for me, that would save even more energy!
    Another thing that has helped me is learning how to acknowledge and release my emotions. (Instead of blocking them.) It's still a work in progress. But I feel more energy than I used to because I've been able to process and release stuff I was carrying around for years. And guess what? I needed alone time to be able to do that.
