    Focus on balance at the end of the shot and you will become more consistent bowler. I have been bowling for 10 years and until 6 months ago I was a 186-189 average. Then I realized balance at the end of the shot was the key. So now that’s what I mostly focus on. It’s improved my average to a 206 over the last 6 months

      You don't have to spend a lot for a good ball. The "El Cheapo" balls for around $80 are just "house balls." You don't need to spend $300 for a pro ball, either. Get yourself something in the $150-200 range, and when you get better, then you'll be able to take advantage of the technology inside the pro balls. (You might also want to buy bowling shoes if you decide to bowl at least once a week; you'll get something that fits well for around $70-80, and you can get shoes that look like real shoes and not something a clown would wear.)

    Both my parents were fanatical bowlers. My earliest memories are being bundled up in a snow coat, waiting outside our house in the cold while my mom had to deal with my fussy younger siblings. Getting in the family car. Going to the bowling alley and sitting in the children's room with 30 other kids my age while our parents were busy bowling.
    Not kidding. These are my memories before I started grade K. I have more bowling alley memories then memories of playing around the house. 😆
    And to my parents dismay, I didn't take interest in it until I turned 52 but, I'm not fanatical about it. Probably just something to do with keeping my earliest memories alive.

    I just started bowling with a league 2 months ago and bought a straight custom ball. Before, l only bowled with family and friends using house balls. I was told by the pro shop guy at the alley not to get a hooking ball yet. He said as a true beginner I should concentrate on throwing the ball straight down the lane and not to try to hook the ball yet. My average is now about 110. Should I first try to get my average up before going to a hook ball?

    • @ebogar42
      @ebogar42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always work on accuracy first no matter what the sport is. All that other stuff will come much easier once you can get the ball down the center just about every time and get a strike or knock most over. Throwing it hard and down the middle has the potential to knock a lot down too.

    Been a bowler for 25 years. If you don't buy a ball you stand 0 chance against people who do and have it drilled specifically to their hand.
    If I go bowling with friends and forgot my own ball for some reason, having to throw a house ball would knock 50 pins off my average. A lot of ya'll may not like the "buy a ball" suggestion, but it is the single most important thing you can do to improve.

    • @Hank-Bubba
      @Hank-Bubba 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I had never bowled before, but 4 years ago I joined a league. I noticed that EVERYONE was throwing a hook. So I was spending hours and practically breaking my arm trying to put spin on the ball. One day I was practicing this, and a fellow league bowler saw me and said, "What are you trying to do there, mate?" I said I'm trying to put a curve on this ball. He laughed and said, "Dude, that's a house ball. House balls don't curve." I bought a reactive fingertip ball, and improved a bunch. In fact, last night I had high score in my league at 247.😊

  • @JBM425

    The part about coaching actually makes a lot of sense. Look at all the people who spend big on golf and tennis lessons; you can learn how to golf or play tennis without lessons, but with even a bit of coaching, people improve their game significantly, so why not get some bowling lessons?
    As far as the ball goes, people think that you have to go for a $300+ ball, but I don't think that's what you mean. A ball for less than $100 is no better than a house ball, but by spending just a bit more in the $150-200 range, you can get a significantly better ball (and the price includes custom drilling) without breaking the bank. Once you get better and your skills allow you to take better advantage of the technology of a top-line ball, go for it.
    One other suggestion: if you plan to go bowling even twice a month, invest in a good pair of bowling shoes. After a year you'll have made back the money you would have spent on shoe rental, and you won't have to worry about whether the shoes were properly disinfected after that last sweaty guy. You'll get a nice, well-fitting pair of shoes that look like real shoes and not something from Bozo the Clown's costume. ;-)

    I've seen that 3rd tip drill a couple times and I am confused. That spin is end over end as you spin it "up the back". That will create a straighter roll from my understanding. When I watch good bowlers, they go up the side of the ball, creating that tilted spin that curves it, yet I never see that here. Please help!

    Some true tips for beginners. Don't look at the pins. Aim for right or left of center depending on your hand.
    Your thumb should point to where you want the ball to go.
    Your wrist curves the ball not your arm. Shake hands with the ball, if that makes sense.
    I'm just getting real serious into Bowling. Been bowling 150 170 with alley balls. Obviously you need to upgrade eventually, but you can definitely get into Bowling and get better just with the bare minimum

    I hook with house balls. One hand no thumb. I always look for the ball with the pin set to the left of the fingers. I then put the fingers in the ball with the thumb hole above the knuckles.
    With this I don't even roll over the holes. Man... I need a bowling ball. 😅

  • @TheNostalgiaFiend
    @TheNostalgiaFiend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    All I need help with is how to hook it consistently. If I don't hit perfect, I usually end up having to spare, or deal with a 9 or 10 pin frame....and the pattern changes throughout the game. I need my own ball. The fiber rags because the alleys are oiled and makes the ball slippery. A glove. The best time to practice is on senior citizen tournament night. They have the lanes oiled like it's supposed to be..but be prepared.

    Yeah, no beginners hire a coach. BUT... they should!! That was actually the most valuable tip. Typical beginner throws a few dozen games, then buys a ball, then does some weird adjustments based on often conflicting advice from friends, until they can get a few strikes, and then that's their delivery. So they practice it over and over and never get much better. But if they went to a coach at the beginning and learned a correct delivery, at least they'd know what to practice and not waste hours of time trying to fix a messed up delivery.
    Like I did...😢

  • @JaggedStoneOfficial
    @JaggedStoneOfficial ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I I
    Vvvv[Actual tips below]vvvV
    I am conflicted about this one honestly. On one hand, this is prolly how you stop being a beginner, which would mean, this would be for beginners. But on another hand, most beginners won't be looking to head knee deep into the sport and drop cash on a brand new ball and a coach.
    I did neither of these for ice skating despite the recomendations, and ice skating is objectively harder.
    My tip for new bowlers: Master the basics of positioning and throwing.
    Tip 1: Take 4 steps from the lane end, so that way your position will roughly be 1 to 2 steps away from the ball dispenser. This way you can see, and line up to the center dot for your lane, and then generally align it with the lead pin. Imagine a big red line connecting the final pin and the end of your lane, kinda like in wii bowling (you don't just have to trust me on this, try it. It works)
    Tip 2: Time your throw arm with the rest of your body.
    When you go to roll the ball, you should take 4 steps forward roughly and throw.
    Your throw arm should be mid swing by step 2, and should be mid release at the end of step 3. You want to keep your momentum if you can, so you sort of slide at the end of step 3, and mid step 4. This will maximize your pin knock potential.
    Tip 3: DO NOT worry about curving if your new or a casual bowler. Contrary to popular oppinion, it is not the key to consistent strikes, merely just the result of skill.
    Typically curving is a higher level technique that is worked on over time and is very nuanced. By the time you get to that level, you will already have a feel for the right angle and speed to get a strike anyway.
    Tip 4: Start with a lighter ball if your new, and also switch if you feel like your current ball is too heavy. A heavy ball can be unruly, and yoir arm will get tired which will lead to the trebbling of your throw arm, which will lead to inadvertant curves or bad habits which will take away power and accuracy from your shot.
    Hopefully this helped better than this video lol

    Honestly just practice a little bit. If you want to bowl for fun and not necessarily be a pro just play for a bit. I was getting 50-70 range in my first games but after like 9-10 times at the bowling alley with using the same ball they provide that’s comfortable for me (Don’t keep switching your ball unless you plan on buying one it’ll throw you off in my experiences) now I bowl consistently over 100 and have bowled over 140 a couple times. Below average for sure but I’m still new. Goes to show that just practicing makes perfect. If you want to be a pro though yeah go buy some nice shoes, get a ball, get a coach or if you have a friend that’s good at bowling have them teach you and save money. Ultimately though like anything else just practice. I have seen some players that have a nice custom ball and everything and they don’t play well. It’s not all about equipment. I’ve also seen guys bowl 200 using the balls they provide at the alley. Granted they were experienced players but still

    Found out he was associated with bowling coaches. Not at all surprised at the telling me to get a coach now.

    I tend to squeeze the ball with my thumb instead of getting it out first.

    I can't grip a ball properly as my hands and fingers are like - I've been told shaking my hands are like a bunch of bananas. So I have to man handle the heaviest ball but my thumb sits awkwardly due to callouses. So I cradle the ball, using my wrist & forearm.

    Ok, there is no bowling shop/specialist or coach any where near where I live. We have a bowling alley that mostly just profits off kids parties, even the staff don’t know how to play. People who make these videos need to know how far they actually need to scale their advice back to basics.

    I dunno... 3 tips for beginners...
    The first one you mention is better equipment? This most likely doesn't even apply to real amateur beginners who just play bowling once every 2-3 months with friends.
    The second is just plain obvious, I don't think you can call that a Tip for a beginner in anything, because it applies to every area/sport/activity.
    The third tip is perhaps nice and all, but I think it would help if you bothered to explain a little bit as to WHY it is good to spin the ball or HOW exactly it adds to getting more pins down.

    Bowling ain’t cheap anymore. When I was a junior bowler in the 1960’s, we bowled 3 games for a dollar. Today, 3 games will cost you $15. Bring your wife and two kids and it’s a $60 afternoon.

      Bowling has definitely gone up in price over the last 60 years, along with everything else. Hopefully you still get out and enjoy it once in a while!

    Does anyone here know where in California I can get a set of turbo finger tips. I Like them a bit more than what my local shops are offering and cant seem to find a pro shop that stocks them in or near Ventura county.

    Yeah so to start you’ll need to pay out of pocket for a coach and custom ball LMAO
    HOW is this any help for beginners? And how is this going to help people already into bowling who’ll have definitely done this? Waste of time.

    I understand the point of the video and appreciate that man’s teaching, but 1. Buy a bowling ball and 2. Get a coach, not really the tips anyone is looking for who is a real “beginner”. According to the title of this video you should probably teach stuff more like, how to hold the ball, how to spin a ball, how to know which ball size is suitable for a person and so on…

    What? The first 2 tips aren't even tips! Buy expensive equipment and get a coach? And the 3rd tip is to spin, but without the how and why, its not gonna help anyone! So to save your time, tips are as follows;
    1- buy a ball
    2-pay someone to teach you
    3-profit?
    Stupid tips.
