I picked up my husband's guitar yesterday and randomly came across your videos. And now I can play a song. You take all the frustration out and keep the fun.
Lauren you were the first TH-cam guitar teacher I learned from 3yrs ago. Iv since graduated to some more technical stuff but my foundation is all Bateman. Thanks again
I don’t usually leave comments but this this was one of the best videos that I have ever used for learning guitar. I am currently taking classes and just trying to learn a little extra on the side for fun but the way you slow things down and show the charts the whole time is phenomenal!!! Thank you so much!!
I'm a 60 year old beginner, i have your beginner course. This song is what i aspire to and this video will help me greatly. I love your ways and find them most helpful. I also only have one arm which makes things a bit more difficult, so your easy chords are a great help. I have watched Dirk Thomson and have my chords worked out. My biggest problem is i can't play and sing, i go to pieces when i try.
I have barely held a guitar and this video gave me the motivation to start learning. I keep coming back to it. I now practice every day for hours. Thank you!
I have two items to thank Lauren Bateman for: I can now make my cord changes fast enough to keep up with this video and the complement from my wonderful wife of twenty years made. She recognized the song I was playing. 🙂
Thank you for this video, Laura. I started to play many years ago in high school, but never made it to a solid intermediate level before life happened. I'm 60 now and my wife and I are setting up a music room in our home (she plays drums and I also started keyboards recently), so watching lessons like you showed here is a big help to bring up the level of my guitar playing.
I'll be 55 on the 22nd of April and have always wanted to learn to play the guitar. So as an early bday present to myself I purchased a nice electric Strat A Like that arrived yesterday. Rather than bouncing around from different ebooks and YT videos, Ive been looking to find a structured type course and landed here. After watching this video, I really think I've found the perfect teacher for me so looking forward to taking your courses! I'm a huge Skynyrd fan and this was great to see the way you broke it down!
Thanks Lauren! I'm checking out your crash course now and I'm really enjoying it. I really like the way you explain things and your enthusiasm for teaching definitely comes across in your videos. I think it's safe to say that you're gonna have a new student I your 7 level system very soon!
Thank you for the lesson. I'm going on 40 yrs old, and I have always wanted to play the guitar. I just learned Robert Johnson, " Where did you sleep last night" and now I hope to master this song. I honestly think I understand a woman better than a man. Lol, but thank you, and I'll be following right behind you Jimmy
I LOVE this song...but i am 45 years old and just started to learn playing guitar a month ago....i looked it up and thought yea maybe in a year or two :)....you version is very nicely broken down and still sounds close enough to the original..i love it...i m gonna practice anc practice till im fast enough! Thanks alot! Sub earned
Hi Lauren, Just found this video and love that you specialise in teaching seniors. At 61 as you specialise at teaching seniors I wish you were UK based and were near me. I just got my first guitar and found a tutor close by but is on holiday until mid October and I'm itching to start. Nothing like a bit of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Best wishes, Mark
Awesome tutorial! I just bought my first guitar at 29 years old. I know nothing of chords or how to read music but this tutorial give me hope. Thank you!
Hey Lauren, this video is just what I needed to get myself going on the guitar again. After trying to teach myself for a couple of years I plateaued out and stopped making progress, got discouraged and sold my guitar. I always intended to get back into it, but life got in the way and I never did. That was about 45 years ago. Now I'm one of those 70 somethings that you talk about in the video. I only wish I could have had this kind of instruction back then! But maybe there's still hope for me. Thanks for the great instruction, you make it so easy to follow. Cheers (PS-I got my old Takamine that I sold in 1978 back and also have a nice De Armond/Guild electric--so no excuses now)
There will always be hope for you! It's never too late. I'm really glad to hear that you got back into it and I hope that my lessons would be helpful :D You can do it!
You are a wonderful teacher! I am a beginner older adult and you explain guitar very easy i have learning difficulty and thanks for the easy lessons. You amazing at your job!
Almost 3 months in, learning only online. Learned some chords and whatnot but started feeling a bit stuck (not a lot of time to practice.) This was a helpful tutorial. Something I'll be praciticing. Will be checking out more of your videos.
I'm no pro but i would suggest House of the rising sun. Full of useful, common chords and helps your pick hand with the one string/one note at a time pattern.
Videos like yours are great for keeping people my level in the foundations and still yet interesting. I am happy playing some songs as close as possible instead of being frustrated with the exactness of my inspirations’ pro-level complexities. Thanks for sharing this!! Subbed. ❤ I’m your typical 55yo customer. Self taught lefty playing friends guitars upside down at first (18-22yo). Acquired my 1st.. a Tele knockoff and restrung it lefty for me. A friend who played showed me barred E, A and open D, C shapes and simple finger exercises. Bought several books. (Unfortunately, I’m a huge Alex Lifeson fan) So, gave up eventually ~ 25yo. Rekindled interest and bought a lefty Mexican Strat circa 1994 and still have it today, along with/ a 65W Marshall. Always picked it up (then with OLGA on internet) but have eventually stopped/started, etc. feeling plateaued. Lessons like yours help me stay with it and keep it fresh.
