I like BYOB, it's got an interesting and unusual structure too and the lyrics are very topical (though political as a lot of their songs are). It's very catchy too.
They’ve said this song is about how people are perceived more based on how they die than on how they lived, especially if it’s a “shameful” way like suicide or an overdose. The original title was just Suicide, but the label wouldn’t let them use it so they chopped suicide in half, hence Chop Suey. Them eating Chinese food in the video was kind of an fu to the studio. The verse lyrics are references to the daily thought processes of a suicidal/addicted person.

So - as a musical theater performer i am sure you can truly appreciate Serj and his amazing vocal abilities. My mother is a classically trained singing teacher, so getting her to appreciate things like this is a little more difficult. She certainly did not appreciate me playing stuff like this as a teenager 😅 But i do think bands like SOAD are exactly how to get people who care about vocal performance and dramatic/ theatrical performance into metal music. Serj can combine classical lyrical vocals, harsh metal vocals and traditional Caucasian/Armenian folk vocal styles with ease. He is probably joint equal with Slipknots Corey Taylor (though quite different) regarding the best 90s/'nu metal' vocalists.

9:08 - That's a piano. There are lots of instrumental "things" happening in the background on this song that many people have never noticed, even those who have listened to this song countless times. If you want to find out what they are I suggest you take a look at Rick Beato's "dissection" of this song on his "What Makes This Song Great" series. Or you may even make a reaction video about it, it's only 12:30 mins long. Whatever you choose to do, here's the link: th-cam.com/video/wuQIopfRH00/w-d-xo.html. 🙂
I would love to see you go through some RUSH songs. They are well know for being top talents at each of their main instruments (Neil/Drums, Geddy/Bass, Alex/Guitar) but have been often maligned for Geddy's vocals (love or hate maybe?) Thanks for your fun content!
Can only thumbs up once, but yes please! Reactions to RUSH are criminally rare on YT. Tom Sawyer or Spirit of Radio would be the typical first choices. If you do react to them note that the drummer (Neil Peart , RIP) is called the professor and many consider him to be the greatest ever. There are so many time shifts and other rhythmic magic to react to in addition to your normal in depth vocal analysis.

Brief explanation
This, like most SOAD songs, always has a deep message.
Let's define the premise, starting from the look
of the song is based on L0s Angeles, the
Armenian band members and various lines
of music depict the Armenian way of life
and also Los Angeles being the biggest
Armenian community outside Armenia. Then
the song speaks strongly about the roots
band Armenians.
Toxicity according to band member
Daron Malakian is on Deficit Disorder
of attention. But the metaphor can be
extended to the letter I think it has
a very deep meaning.
Now the line " conversion software

everyone to update. The members are
trying to convey that we are being
controlled by corporations that force us
to make these changes and updates by
cause of their profits. The second line, which
says look at life through the eyes of a hub

of people who do not see the general picture of
corporate greed and still continue to
do what they are doing.
Now, eating seeds for Armenians is

most men are on the streets, without

in Armenia. There are no jobs, the police are

protesters are brutalized. People

Serj can combine classical lyrical vocals, harsh metal vocals and traditional Caucasian/Armenian folk vocal styles with ease.
He is probably joint equal with Slipknots Corey Taylor (though quite different) regarding the best 90s/'nu metal' vocalists.
you should definitely react and analyze more system of a down songs. BYOB, Aerials, Question!, and more. Very nice analysis btw. Despite having heard this song thousands of times, there were a couple of vocal details that I've never paid attention to until you pointed them out. The same goes with your react and analysis of toxicity. Keep it up!
You should react to the orchestra version of Serj's single "Honking Antilope" and stand in awe of his magnificent voice.
Where to go next? Any answer that is not the masterpiece "Aerials" is wrong.
Amazing reaction, I think you’d like “aerials” another classic song from soad
Korn - Freak on a leash
The second voice Daron Is an excellent singer too
Certainly one of most intense songs out there!
Serj Tankian has such a uniqe voice, well worth to follow the rabbit into his music
Another accurate reaction and understanding
Def do aerials next!
Next more song "aerials"
Have you heard of Dan Vasc (Metal Singer)? I would love to hear your analysis of his version of "Amazing Grace"
Take a look at Sergi's perform of Empty walls live with the Auckland orchestra!
If you want to hear Daron’s voice featured in a song, Lonely Day would be another cool one to hear your opinion on.
I highly recommend you analyze Rhapsody Of Fire - Dawn of Victory. the level of clarity and vocal intensity is a delight!! ❤️
If you do more System of a Down, Question and Aerials are amazing.
System of a Downs Spiders please! Their first album is their best imo and shows Serjs range waaaay more than any of their other albums. Not counting Serjs solo stuff.
Try the Questions
They have a great harmony..😎😎
"Question" it's another SOAD great song!
👍👏gotta give Jinjer another look
i feel like you'd love their song 'question!' :)
His voice is beyond your understanding
SOAD managed to perfectly sing what schizophrenia feels like
♫ DIIEEEEEE! "Ha-ha" - excellent :)
You were right, I was very much tempted to just go watch the video instead. But I stuck with it and watched your reaction.
If you really want to see “Technical” System of a Down, you should react to “Questions”
@@zeldyrrolorin9962criminally rare?? Must be the algorithm that floods me with Rush reactions then 😊
Serj sounds like Animal from the muppets sometimes. During his growl notes. Makes me snicker when I hear it. 😂
"Auntie Why Have You Forsaken MeEEEeeeEEE?"
Great R&A, would love another look at Colm McGuinness, maybe something newer like Northwest Passage 2023 or Northumbria
Please react yo more system's songs!! They're all good hehe:) Spiders and Innervision are maybe my favourites
I also recommend “Chop Suey But You Overslept”
Jennifer, where are you from? you look a lot like my daugther🥰 you are very good at explaining a piece of music well.👌👌👌
