Maid of Sker is a first-person survival horror, set in a remote hotel with a gory and macabre history from British folklore. Armed with only a defensive sound device, you’ll utilise stealth tactics to avoid death amongst a cult of sound-based AI enemies.
Set in 1898 and inspired by the haunting Welsh tale of Elisabeth Williams, this is a story of a family empire driven by torture, slavery, piracy and a supernatural mystery that suffocates the grounds of the hotel.
Created and developed by Wales Interactive with a plot crafted by the writing talent and designers behind the likes of SOMA, Don’t Knock Twice and Battlefield 1.

Willing to bet that the voice on the phone is actually the Siren. Otherwise, HOW does she keep knowing where Tomas is in order to call him?! And Elisabeth had asked, in her letter, that Thomas write a COUNTER to her song, but now she's asking him to collect cylinders containing her song in order to reverse the situation?
Though, maybe the Siren feels bad now, and wants to reverse things? Or it just wants to be freed. Time will tell!
I'm pretty sure that the song played on the cylinders is "Calon Lân" welsh for "a Pure Heart" it's just sung at a somewhat different pitch than most are used to. It's often sung as a rugby song but was originally written as a hymn.
It was really nostalgic to hear it, my Dad is in a welsh male voice choir and they sing this one a lot, I was brought up hearing it and even though I am absolutely abysmal at my mother tongue (I can't even hold a conversation) it holds a special place in my heart.
Why don't you sing for me? Maybe something otherworldly will happen.

Every time you rang the bells in the lobby my anxiety levels increased exponentially.

@@mAcCoLo666 if you go for 60fps at 720p\1080p they mush the video since its encoded in a less favorable bitrate ... the same bitrate they use for 30\24fps video ... the only way to have quality on YT is :
A) to lower your frame count to 48\50fps to still have smooth motion... or encode the video in 30\24fps
B) Encode it at higher resolutions from 4K\5K\6K\7K\8K those get a higher bitrate limit
C) Be a bigger channel behind a corporation that throws money at YT to have the best quality encode

Calliope is my favorite character. Calliope was the Greek muse of epic poetry. I wonder if Calliope the dog will turn out to be more than she seems.
The creature (Siren?) is luring in musicians like a fisherman reels in fish! It’s such a deliciously creepy premise for a horror game. Really enjoying the atmosphere and story. I definitely don’t think whatever is talking to Thomas is human. At the end it sounded like it was practising Elisabeth’s voice.
Okay I just had make one more comment - After hearing that phonograph of Isaac beating that dog I gotta say he and I would be having words, words he wouldn't like because they'd break his teeth.

Update: Seeing you play around with the bells and organ when Elizabeth told you that the rest of the hotel staff is attacking anyone that makes a sound made my hairs stand on end. You are really tempting fate there huh?
Elizabeth is probably actually the Siren and she is leading you with the songs to free her. The silent ones are the ones that actually had to do those rituals to keep the Siren jailed or something.
The moment the MC cames out into a frixking abandoned looking train stop, you know shit is only gonna get worse 🤣
Calliope is one of the Muses of writing. I love that dog.

I doubt that Elisabeth is a good one, she knows where you are how can she call you exactly where you are? plus the last part on this vid makes me doubt more on her, so far so good, I think the dark room you passed on is the one that leads to the boarded up music doll that you missed out, I could be wrong though
Lol my exact thought when he decided to skip over the dark area in the cavern. That was most definitely the way that led to the doll.
I also felt suspicious about Elizabeth. I don't know why... She seemed to know a lot for someone "just trying to survive". She's hiding something

At first I couldn't hear that singing from the hotel when you did. I don't think that's because of the degradation when TH-cam processes videos but because I have below average hearing (Not going deaf just what I was born with) but when I did hear it I agree, very haunting and beautiful. Love the look and right now I'm at the part when you just entered the hotel, so far I'm liking it and seems a decent build up so far. An interesting find CJU and I hope the rest of the video continues being this enjoyable.

It's a rare game that explores Greek mythology as its monster lore. Also, Calliope is a very good girl, 10/10, would pet again.

Chris, did you know? The Maid of Sker is a famous Welsh tale that centres around "Sker Hotel". There isn't such a place in real life, but one made famous known as the Sker House, which is a real building. HOWEVER, it doesn't look like this house shown in game.
The fact that the company used the tale of "The maid of Sker" and directly referenced the house's history actually got the developers in trouble legally a couple years back, because it's first trailer showed the property and it's background, which they believed would encourage ghost hunters inspired by the game. The owners literally only found out about it after seeing their property on social media. Wales interactive basically said, "Erm, it's perfectly legal." as a rebuttal. Apparently they removed straight up references of it within the game as a courtesy, but didn't have to.
I recognized the song ("All Through the Night") without the subtitles, but I didn't realize it was a Welsh song. I just knew it was pretty old and sung a lot around Christmas time or to babies as a lullaby, here in the states. But I grew up a school band geek and we had to play a lot of classic and folk songs like that. So that's why I knew it so well.
Looked it up just now and found out it was originally Welsh, though not as old as I had suspected (only late 18th century). Very cool to hear it in its original, intended language! So beautiful

Wow Devs !! If you’re looking at this comment I just want to say great job !! The modeling and texturing of the environments, items and characters are all amazing!! The voice acting is on point and the gameplay seems good too with no hick ups or glitches .. keep grinding and please keep making more games !! This game looks so beautiful!! But my first thought was that Elizabeth wants to play the song of horror ....
It has taken me approximately twice the length of this video to watch this video, because it was so, so, tense. And I realize it wasn't just me feeling it: at 1:21:50, when you opened the door and saw an enemy on the other side, there was none of the traditional "Oh, hi, buddy..!", you were all like, "Close the door". LOL. Definitelly want to see more of this. There are so many cool little touches here, on top of the graphics, which are lovely and wonderfully atmospheric. I enjoy how everything is so perfectly balanced, without making you feel like the difficulty of any given area has been either dumbed down or artificially ramped up. The switches for the double-lock electric doors are _just_ far enough away from each other that you can *_carefully_* (of course) navigate to them and avoid the Quiet One's "patrol" route. The noisy pirate display disturbs a QO who's _just_ far enough away to avoid him and... carefully... make your way to the chest with the key. The guidance is so deft that the game doesn't feel nearly as linear as it in fact is. My favorite moment: the use of a sound cue to tell you that an animal which you had seen several times, but not interacted with, was injured off-screen. (This was also my favorite moment in Myst III: Exile.) That "oh no" heart-drop and the compulsion to run immediately to the source of the sound to try and help the animal is a masterful way to move both the player (to an area) and the story (by making a "friend", who -- as you speculated, CJU-- may well turn up to help you later). My favorite realization is... the premise of this game seems to be the exact same one as "Song of Horror", with the connections all scrambled (the Song comes not from a music box, but directly from a being, for example). And like SoH, I have a lot of questions. #1 is, of course, is the being still alive, still trapped, a la the Doctor Who episode "The Beast Below"? Is it evil, or is the evil all from the men trying to use it, or worship it, or whatever they are doing? What _are_ they doing? Is this all an attempt to "transfer" the being's "power" to a singer (first Prudence, which maybe failed and killed her), and now Elizabeth? And what does a cult full of "Quiet Ones" need with singers and musicians anyway? I know you decided the Kraken wasn't Cthulhu, CJU, but c'mon-- you know Cthulhu is going to be at the bottom of this eventually ;-). So I really hope that there is a Part 2 (and 3, and on to the end), to see if that's so! Thanks, and thanks in advance!

Thinking that Elizabeth can't be trusted is simply due to playing so many games where she would be the villain. If she can be trusted, I actually think she's been tricked and we're going to do something terrible. If she can't, which would be the more common/used route, then she could be possessed or the... siren? is simply using her voice to be tricksy.
Let's see if she says anything untrustworthy in part 2...
Anyone else subconsciously hold their breath whenever Thomas did? I loved this so much! The singing was always well placed, especially during the torture scene. I did chuckle when Abraham dropped the F bomb so fiercely, a real contrast to the well spoken voice prior, was not expecting that at all. The atmosphere, the audio, the lighting. All impressive! Tense moments? Yes. Petting the doggy? Bonus! Really immersive game and I love it so far!
Excellent game. The details and the atmospheric design is impressive. I think it is inspired by "The Conjuring House" as well. Beautiful story as well. Can't wait for the rest.
IT's kinda weird - BUT IN RL breathing makes less noise than walking or opening doors - unless this guy breathes with his mouth open, have emphysema or is a very old dog

I think the start in the basement where they showed you that you had to zigzag through rooms without being chased to learn the layout before anything like that happens, is kind of a brilliant learning by doing approach to teaching gamers layout and mechanical basics of your game, without them even knowing until they need it. I love where this game is going. Shows much promise.
But, Elizabeth speaking through the box feels so close to Bioshocks Atlas twist. Waiting for her to repeat certain questions quite often :D
Also the dog is called Calliope ... one of the Muses. Sometimes even called the chief of the muses. So someone who inspires poetry ... or song.

Idk, I'm betting by the end of this we'll discover she didn't pick Thomas for his good looks. He is a composer and I think that plays a role in his part in all this.
The scariest part is the intro.
And the way the game put the music sheets, the paper articles of both Hughes and Evans, as if the hotel reels musicians.
storywise this reminds me of song of horrors already...its a good thing though because that game is awesome, is maid of sker also available for ps4 as well? my pc is down atm
