►About the Game -
Cold House is a first-person horror game that is the first episode of three. You have to survive in extreme cold conditions, solve puzzles and unravel the mystery of the cold house.
The action takes place in Yakutia, where in winter the air temperature drops below -50 degrees Celsius (-58 F).
The main character gets into a car accident and is forced to take refuge from the cold in an abandoned house, waiting for warmer weather, where it will soon turn out that he is not alone at all..

in real life, never run when you are somewhere cold, you would be releasing all of your energy and freeze faster. running only give you heat for a moment, and only built up when at warm place. btw great vid

This game was so scarily effective, especially with the music and atmosphere. There were SO many times even during daylight I was freaking because I thought I heard a second set of footsteps, when it was just the dude traipsing around on the spot when turning. The narrow field of view as well as the noisy, clunky movement made it feel so unsafe. All the buildup lead to me having to exit out of fullscreen when night came in. REALLY looking forward to episode two!

That door leg puzzle solve was so smooth, how you intuit that kind of stuff in these games. I'd still be looking at it, like "What the dog doin?"
Cold as a horror facilitator is so underused, when it makes so much sense!
I'm really enjoying the soundscape, gives a nice feeling of cold and isolation. The bit-crushed stepping on snow sound is nice too. The thing I didn't enjoy was the part with the horror buildup because you've heard that music used in so many other things it took me out of it a bit, lol!
The lightning is nice, it has the feeling of a shut down place but you can still see well enough as a player, the darkness is not too much.
The deep orange light of the second horror build up is good! The candle-light is way too white and diffused though.
This is rarely if at all implemented in a game as a mechanic or in a story, but cold temperatures draining heat from your body can make you tired and hallucinate as if you were suffering sleep deprivation, which is a gold mine for seeing scary shit. Sad not many horror games take advantage of that.

I'm really looking forward to this one. Isolation, and cold is so much scarier than a hockey mask imo. Watch this be like Andrei Chikatilo's family home or something.

This house is reminding me of another game I think CJ played. Main character takes shelter in an abandoned house, and I could swear it's this house. But he starts hearing noise from the basement, and eventually something busts out of the basement? Think there had been experiments done in the basement on a nurse or something? I can't remember exactly.
Oh man I'm stoked on this one.... now that springs begun for some reason I've been listening to winter creepypasta, and watching winter horror type movies... I love winter. Anyways this game fits perfectly into my mourning of winter rotation! Thanks Chris. Your the best my friend!!
Edit: So far I really love the beginning of this, the "Cold House" is actually far away from where you started so you actually feel the sense of isolation... unlike most indie games that just put you right outside the place. So far I dig it!
Something about the peaceful landscape while blanketed in snow, with the occasional flurry falling to Earth, does give you this oppressively ominous feeling. After I got my meteorology degree I did some work in Greenland, and walking the streets at 2 in the morning on the completely empty streets, you can't help but feel like you are being watched. It's easy to see what looks like something moving around at the very edge of where your lightsource and darkness meet.

I remember a fairly similar memory of mine from when I was taking a train from Seattle Wa to Cincinnati OH during the winter, back then I was like 18 and still smoked cigarettes and we stopped in the middle of the night in this tiny frozen mountain town in Montana and my friends and I hopped out of the train to grab a few puffs. The tiny little town was silent and completely frozen over... but it was an absolutely beautiful night. With the sky clear and the stars bright. Here we were bunch of kids with the orange cigarette ends lighting up their faces... sorry nostalgic tonight I guess. Lol but I know what you mean. It's like a kind of magic in the air.

I miss the winter often when I'm in an area that doesn't have snowy weather.

Farenheit is so easy. 32 is freezing.. so 32% warm.. really freaking cold. 70 is 70% warm which is a super nice day. 80 is pretty warm. 100 is 100% hot and miserable. Anything in the negatives is frozen tundra and no thanks.
Celsius-:100 boil water, 0 freeze water, 20 is cozy for humans,
What do we take away from this game? Pay attention when you're driving in a life-threateningly cold, isolated area, knucklehead. 😶
Now all we need is a backroom style game of toilets for Chris 🚽😁 I actually loved this game, the graphics were amazing. It looked so real that I need a hot coffee to warm up ☕️😊 Another awesome game, thank you Chris Can't wait for episode 2.

One thing I really liked about this one is that there were actual puzzles to solve, not just keyhunts. Having to deal with a cold meter was also nice, and could potentially lead to some more interesting gameplay elements. Basically, I really liked how there was more to this indie horror game than just... walking and putting keys into things. And running. Not that the actual horror chase moments were badly executed, either! I really dig the explore the day/survive the night split as well. This series has real potential if it can grow itself.

That was a slow start but I think it built the atmosphere nicely. I would like to see what else the dev has planned.
I love the buildup of tension and wondering when, I think that’s why Amnesia did well, same with alien isolation (to name a few.) Took a wee bit but still was creepy and unnerving.
I love horror games) I am from Siberia, but a little bit close to Europe than Yakutia. The minimum degrees I felt were -42 celsius. But now extremely hot weather and forest fires, because of the climate change.

I acknowledge your intelligence in solving puzzles. Not just in this game but in others I have seen as well. Try as I might, I never get the right code and end up looking it up.
Looking forward to the next one. It had so many small elements that helped, using a head lamp, wearing warm cloths. We haven't even seen the station yet. And the chase scenes were pretty good.

There were so many beds because Cold House was a hospital (the menu in the kitchen mentions food for "patients").
The sound effects specifically the snow crunching is so satisfying lol.

The thing is is if you actually get into this kind of car accident you should always stay in your car
I'm a little conflicted on this one. It introduces the freezing aspect but it doesn't seem to matter much since you're safe in the house. Maybe they could've had you relight the fire (instead of the candles) and needing to get firewood so there would at least be some tension with the mechanic even while in the house?
The build up music unfortunately makes me think of every mediocre horror game I've heard it in and kills the atmosphere for me.
Also I think everyone's just gotten used to games having Resident Evil style puzzles without questioning anything, but I really don't understand why a place like this has all these puzzles to begin with. At least in RE 1 & 2 they had some reasoning behind why, but with this there's nothing and it's kinda weird. Not to mention why the protag would at all bother with them when they're focused on surviving this cold/finding a way to get home. I hope there's at least some decent answers in the end.
I really hope there's more to this, I like that there's whole other areas to explore and not just the house itself. Though I also noticed the lack of any threat (aside from freezing your butt off) outside the house, weirdly enough. Maybe episode 2 will lend to more exploring and not just being chased in the house around every night? I'll stick around for more.
Not bad at all! Environmental hazards always make for good horror because there's the knowledge that you could leave if you really tried. Risk freezing to death or stay nice and warm with a monster chasing you around? Will be interesting to see how it goes. Also face-shoving doors is always fun.

The house exterior reminded me of a Minecraft Woodland Mansion.
I'd like to see the next patr of this game. Too bad it was so short. I like the cold environment (and being able to actually explore it, not being confined in one area). Survival elements add something to do other than search for keys, which is always good. Music as well-placed and adds the tension.
I hope new episodes won't be a letddown.
For a game that is called Cold House and features a Cold mechanic, it honestly didn't do much with it. Like its mentions how freezing it is on the games steam page, but the moment you are inside the house you really don't have to worry about the cold at all.

im from the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and its very interesting to see these writings in our Sakha languages as well as other cultural things. very endearing bc we rarely get any representation

It would be just as cold in the house as it is outside. If there's no heating system then inside/outside equalize. 😊
The only positive thing is there'd be no wind, which CAN be a huge difference.

Very atmospheric! Nicely played with a frost theme and vast spaces that can be provide in such terrain as Yakutia, Kamchatka or Tuva. Also I see a huge inspiration of indigenous shaman practics - names of the hunters are typical tribeman names from this part of Russia.

I'm from yakutia and in Central and Southern parts of our republic we definitely have a very hot but short summer. last summer it was +35 in Yakutsk (the capital city)
