149th and 3rd is one of the worst areas for sure. I grew up in the bx and I hated going that way at any time 😂 but some of my family lived there so I had to but this is a rough area for sure 😢but the best part of that area is that there is literally EVERYTHING you need right there it’s actually a very popular area because so many important schools, hospitals, etc are around there too. Used to work at the Bronx River parkway on twilight shift. Taking the 2 train just to go home was a mission at night. Sometimes I ask myself how tf did I survive walking down these streets.
Shut up Karen. Have some respect for the poverty some have to deal with being in such an expensive city. Families do live all across the Bronx. It is the poorest borough. And this is one of the worst spots in all of it.
Garbage service in ny is curbside, and that is a common sight on garbage night in any part of town. One of the reasons why a nyc garbage strike is just awful.
@ We have curb side garbage collection too. However, we have plastic bins to place it in. We have regular, re-cycling and (optional) garden waste bins. It’s not perfect by any means but it really helps to keep streets clean and tidy. We want to visit NY next year on our way home from Canada. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. 😊

This doesn’t show what “America” is really like. It’s based on one neighborhood in one city, which isn’t fair for a country as big and diverse as the U.S. it’s like saying Frankfurt represents all of Germany. If you’re from the Bronx, you know this is one of the tougher areas. But even in the Bronx, places like Riverdale show a completely different side. And outside of New York, states like Colorado and Washington have beautiful nature and landmarks. It’s frustrating how often people generalize and criticize Americans. Every country has its own problems, including poor areas, and the news mostly shows the bad stuff. As someone who’s traveled to 17 countries, I’ve noticed that Europeans, in particular, often insult Americans without really knowing us at the individual level. I was born and raised in the Bronx, and my family came to this country with nothing. But through hard work, we’ve built careers and bought homes in safe, beautiful neighborhoods. This kind of social mobility is harder to achieve in countries with racial/gender barriers, or economic systems. Not here to argue and say we are perfect but to have a discussion and educate.
I’m from Frankfurt and it has areas like that too. Drug addicts and prostitution, homeless people. It’s like that in most big cities. I’ve been to quite a lot of states in the US and what I love most about the country is the variety of landscape. It has everything, beach, desert, mountains, forests, cliffs, canyons…. I don’t agree with the politics, Health system, weapons, etc. but it is a beautiful place nonetheless. I especially loved the south and favorite city is New Orleans
@@Azivideo yeah this is generalizing, but you know majority of people that watch this will do no further research and just take it as all of nyc is like this
Me my girlfriend and some friends went to New York in February 2024, and this was the exact street where our hotel was located, (Opera House Hotel at minute 10:15), So many memories in this video!!! It can be a little intimidating walking around that area, especially during night time and it is definitely a very different environment compared to Manhattam. It snowed a lot during that time while we were there, but overall we had a blast in New York! But anyway like you said "if you don't bother people, nobody is going to bother you." Thank you for the footage 🗽
Sir, you are brave! I mean someone threatening to "beat you with a stick?" I have visited Manhattan and found it quite nice but this night walk is horrifying. I would have found the nearest reputable hotel and sheltered till daylight. We don't have to deal with that where I live.
This was very depressive experience, thank you for those kind of videos. I see that I live in the super nice place right now:-) Btw take care in the futures videos, best wishes
Jayzuz!! Thank geology for my nice wee City of Perth in Scotland. Granted, it could be better, but it sure is better than any of the viewing in this video.
I'm fortunate enough to be able to go out of my house in the evening and walk through my neighbourhood, go to local shops, or just stroll. Even in the dark. Not all of the UK is that accommodating, so I know how lucky I am.
Genius level thinking here. "Tourists stick to tourist areas." Wow. Who would have known that. How is that unique to NYC? And this is just a rough area of an otherwise great city. There are very few rough spots. And yes, visitors do visit them. Deal with it. Not all of us are fragile.
It’s the ‘Cash 4 diabetic supplies’ sign that really got me. In the UK that sign would be unthinkable. Insulin is free to everyone and anyone with diabetes.
I’m from Edinburgh, Scotland and I watch these videos from NYC, Chicago Baltimore and Philadelphia with abject horror. What on earth is happening in the USA? Many European cities are going the same way. Previously, I would never count myself fortunate to live where I do, but increasingly I do consider myself to be lucky in that regard.
The same Edinburgh in the UK 🇬🇧 that's rammed with immigrants and hardly hear a Scottish accent on the streets? The same Edinburgh that in recent history was the AIDS capital of Europe? The same Edinburgh where feral youths run amok in hellholes like Wester Hails, Granton, Niddrie, Pilton, Gorgie, Broomhouse, Wardieburn etc etc? The same Edinburgh that's constantly in the grip of a heroine epidemic? The same Edinburgh where entire parts of it are like downtown Warsaw? And not the same Edinburgh that a man was recently decapitated at night in the middle of the cowgate and covered up by the police with a fabricated invisible bus? Edinburgh is a dump with one historic tourist trap street and a pishy old castle. You ain't all that.
To be honest my friend. I lived in nyc for 30 years and it was still like this in the 80,90,’s, 2000’s and now. We didn’t think anything of it because growing up in the projects was our normal reality. I left 7 years ago and will never go back. They are plugged into the matrix in nyc
Came here from night walk in Tokyo. The difference is crazy. literally no crazy people, homeless people, heavily drunk people, drug users or garbage on the streets. You don't need to be afraid to be ambushed or threatened by some crazy dude who does not want you to go around with your camera.
I just got back from Japan and some of my friends said that Tokyo is sliding down as well. They said that there are places that they wouldn’t walk around.
At least this doesn't look as bad as Kensington. I've never seen such a crazy scary place as that! I don't think that I would want to ever go to Kensington Avenue in Philly! I've never seen such zombies! Truly scary/sad!
Question. Do they know they can leave? There are places without garbage, urine, never ending concrete, violence for simply existing, and not to mention the "what the fuck you lookin' at, fuck you" glance every person exudes. I think i hate cities. Can't see a single upside to them. They seem to churn out despair, hate, and the worst behaviour known to humans. This video seriously tripped me out. I have totally forgotten that there are these massive pockets of people that are miserable, and even if they're not, they'd love life if they just moved to a community that knows and respects each other. I don't understand any of this. Pick a direction and just go straight. Get the fuck away from that hell. Ok im done.
I used to be a street photographer in London. The homeless always took better care of themselves here. Sleeping bags and a cardboard shelter. These people seem to have given up on everything. The couple laid on the bare pavement spooning was both sweet and sad to see.

Look at the number of children. Its 3am.....being taught how to handle life at this time of night. This is the time when social services need to be walking the streets. They may change their views on how ppl are being forced to live. 😢. Its not life its existence....... Oh don't get me started!! I see similar in my town Saturday night, I'm out cooking food until 4am, and I'm 70. Being doing this for 30 years. Its heartbreaking to see ppl loose everything through one or two bad choices , sometimesitisnoteventhem that has had input, the rest is history 😢❤
Heart breaking. All of the infrastructure is modern, just the destroyed human beings. Parts of Toronto (Canada) are sliding down this abyss as well. The rich get richer.
The rich are working, not taking drugs and not throwing s*** out their windows.
I’m sad for ny but it’ll always be where my heart is ❤🗽

Dude, its the South Bronx. It's not like most of America.
@GUITARTIME2024 not like Philadelphia? Like L.A.? Like all the other cities with massive homelessness and drug issues? I'll take Baghdad or Afghanistan before Venice beach.
I jumped mistakenly from the bus somewhere in Central LA in the 80s. A slum 10 times terrible than 149th street here. A sheer wonder i wasn't robbed there, with my big suitcase.
Baghdad or Kabul?? I'll take the Bronx over those hell holes any day
Used to work at the Bronx River parkway on twilight shift. Taking the 2 train just to go home was a mission at night. Sometimes I ask myself how tf did I survive walking down these streets.
I need to shower after watching this!
Fantastic footage and thank you. Stay safe my friend
What a place to take the family on a fabulous day out
Shut up Karen. Have some respect for the poverty some have to deal with being in such an expensive city. Families do live all across the Bronx. It is the poorest borough. And this is one of the worst spots in all of it.
@@oootaffooo501 most tourist are stupid enough to actually do that after they hit Times Square that is.
Yes! It’s like lets go to the Bronx and hang out but only at night really late when all the dealers and users are out. Good times 😂
I can’t believe how dirty it is. All the garbage just sitting in bags. It must stink. It’s certainly not what I expected 😢

What camera/phone is this shot with? It's like we are there right now! Wow, so sharp and clear.
Wanker, is that all you care about?
@@kevan65 agreed - media is a big part of the issue. Negativity sells.

But anyway like you said "if you don't bother people, nobody is going to bother you."
Thank you for the footage 🗽

I'm fortunate enough to be able to go out of my house in the evening and walk through my neighbourhood, go to local shops, or just stroll. Even in the dark. Not all of the UK is that accommodating, so I know how lucky I am.
An absolute nightmare. You are very brave to be walking there. Thanks for your courage....and video.
The city that never sweeps. You don't see any of this in the NY tourism videos.
Genius level thinking here. "Tourists stick to tourist areas." Wow. Who would have known that. How is that unique to NYC? And this is just a rough area of an otherwise great city. There are very few rough spots. And yes, visitors do visit them. Deal with it. Not all of us are fragile.

Compared to other videos I've seen like Philly and Detroit this place seems quite peaceful.
Detroit is a ghost town idk how the crime rate is so high there. No one even goes outside.
Agree. In Philly, the deads come back and live on the streets.
Both are cool to visit though, but NYC is safer overall.
Real life is way more dull than tv cop shows and cop movies where cities are rife with crime.

Jevvvvvs that’s what happened.

Cleveland Ohio really feels good after watching this
Ok im done.
