    I'm from this area. Pretty much all of western PA can look like this. It isn't that scary once you realize that the people that once inhabited these buildings left decades ago and these buildings have decayed as a result. It is a lot less of being in a haunted town and more like being in archaeological site.

    Creepy as all get out and not a soul to be seen. What lurks in the darkness that keeps people locked in their homes?

    I grew up less than 10 miles from here. It's been pretty awful once the steel industry vacated the area from the 70s through the 80s'. I can remember scores of dads from my neighborhoods being laid off over the years. The town of McKeesport then shrunk into its own horrible abyss of neglect and decay. It's not unusual to see the streets this deserted at night. Honestly, when you drive through there after hours, it's better to run the risk of getting a ticket by running red lights than actually obeying the law and stop at them. I am not kidding. This route was often a quicker way to get from downtown Pittsburgh to the east residential suburban neighborhoods. If you came this way after the bars closed at 2:00 AM, you never stopped in McKeesport. Ever.

    So many people feel blatantly surprised by how quiet it is. That's just how it is in small towns. Heck, I live in a small town in Brazil, and that's just how it is after like 10pm. Everyone is inside getting ready to finish their day and get some sleep. After midnight, there will be simply no one walking the streets in downtown neighborhoods.
    It's actually amazing how people are so surprised by this. Just, lol.

    As someone from another country, I always find it fascinating wheen looking at the contrast between these rundown neighborhoods and the nice, fairly modern cars. In other countries, there's a more notable congruence between people's homes and their cars.

  • @grevensher594
    @grevensher594 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +302

    The fact most of the roads are still brick/cobblestone shows the town has been hard on its luck for a while. Though I'm surprised a decent amount of people still live there judging by the cars parked on the road.

    I’m a home inspector in the Pittsburgh area. I do agree seeing McKees Rocks pop up on my schedule does always make me wary. However, I do a lot of these old houses that provided steel mill families a good home over the years. The stories I bet they could tell. Sad to see most of them collapsing in on themselves now.

    I live in south africa. Areas like this are fairly common in most towns. I think alot of people here forget that even "great countries" like USA can't escape these kind of derelict living situations. They use harsh words about our country but need to realize that there are challenges everywhere. This area is not too terrible

    One of the most jarring things as a pittsburgh native is how you can go from the "new growth" of modern buildings built post collapse and lively neighborhoods only to see entire streets abandoned from the bad old days that never recovered. Everything from how big our airport is compared to the actual size of the city to the actual layout of the city suggests that the population capacity should be much higher than it currently is. It went from over a million people living here to only 300,000 and it still shows.

    I run a supply yard in North Versailles down the road. The only time I’ve ever had to cancel a delivery was to a section of McKeesport that looked similar to the opening footage. Steep, eroding one way streets and no signage. Couldn’t get my delivery truck to the customer’s house and didn’t want to risk driving around lost. I’ll go almost anywhere but I refuse to deliver to that particular neighborhood in McKeesport.

    This is fascinating. It's like we're right there in the car with you. It kind of makes me want to go and see what it looks like in daylight. Very interesting. 👍

    What the hell is up with this place? No one around! There's some pretty bad places here in the UK, but even at 3.00 a.m. there is someone lurking around. Not sure which is worse - totally deserted streets, or the occasional low life prowling around and up to no good.

    I think it's quite relaxing to watch, also the sound is soo good. The streets are empty and I see nothing worse

    Just as well it wasn't foggy, people would think it was Silent Hill.
