- Guinness World Records confirms McLaren Formula E driver Jake Hughes just smashed the indoor land speed world record by more than 33 miles per hour. It happened during a head-to-head duel race against Mahindra Racing’s Lucas di Grassi at ExCeL London stadium. Unfortunately, it was a closed event, so no fans were in attendance. Hughes hit a top speed of 135.9 miles per hour in less than a quarter mile. He was driving the Genbeta development car, a modified version of the electric championship's Gen3 race car.
Electric go karts gives me a rush of adrenaline at 60, i cant imagine how this feels.
That's super fast it runs at 218.71 KPH
@@meepsonicformula E only runs at 75mph 😂🙏
I wonder how it feels to go that fast
You will get a head injury I think..
@Dog68y6 oh I did not know thx lol
Think about F1….
It'll break your neck
One wrong move and u will find out.
A motorsport-related video is unusual on Inside Edition. Btw, FE started in 2014, to be precise.
Formula E is one of my favorite racing series to watch! Lucas Di Grassi is my favorite racer! 🇧🇷
I thought it was a toy car😂
it is
Yup. Just scaled up
I definitely miss the sound from the gas engine😮
@@Nightzero66 yes, an electric car is like dancing with no music
I miss the rage
Watch f1
@@kabir.dhingra I haven’t watched F1 for many years got sick of Michael Schumacher, winning all the time. but maybe it’s time to start watching again😁
@@greggreg2263you won't be disappointed 😂
it’s the London Excel Centre not stadium but close enough
Wow … that’s quite a difference from this new record and the old one.
that’s a really specific record lol
Good for them! That's awesome! Keep up the good work!
I want a car like that so bad!!
well it aint street legal and u aint in formula e soooooooo
Only maybe 1 million moneys, cheap enough!
@@5XXFelipe gotta change tyres about every couple hours which Cost like a couple thousands per wheel then you got the battery that lasts like an hour then you gotta remember that these cars won’t handle a speed bump plus every tiny hit requires changing the whole part or the car which means even more money so like I’d say it could be a couple mil per year (as someone who watches the sport)
@@MB66_ Yup, cheap enough as i said!
Might as well just get a 2 door coupe sports car with decent fuel economy. Then, you will be happy.
If you haven't driven a BEV you're missing out. When you're already moving and you mash the accelerator pedal you get immediate torque. On an ICE vehicle you gave to wait for the rpm's to climb after the transmission picks a gear to start feeling the acceleration.
With an ICE comes with a soulful exhaust note. A BEV is soulless.
This is going to be cool to watch.
the car "contributed"...... how hard is it to make the car go vroom vroom... its all the car... he "contributed"
sounds like a RC car.
Is this land speed record indoors? Ive seen Jeremy Clarkson drive like 130mph while arguing with hammond, talking about the car's seat heating system and making obscene hand gestures.
Sounded like my washing machine
you must have an awesome washing machine then.
I just finished watching Scott Mansell’s (driver61) video.
0:29 "Lewis di Grassi"😂😂
"Louis digrassi" lmao
Add a flux capacitor to that puppy and let's see if it can time travel! I'd love to see that car.
That's batmobile like.
WOW IT BROKE THE SPEED RECORD!
I thought that was a little car at first
I need one of those so I can become the Dark Knight
Pretty cool 😎
Talk to me when they can do pod race style at 1500mph
135mph? Omg pop the champagne
Dude be like: I AM SPEED
How do the cameras move that quick!!
They're on mechanical dollies and stuff.... Like, the electronic bunny rabbit that the dogs run after at Dog Races. But instead of a bunny, it's attachment is a camera that follows the cars.
@@ellefox1132it’s a drone lol
Yeah there was a drone chasing the car but the shots you see from in front of the car flying down the track were filmed before the car was even on the track, it’s an editing trick. no drone can fly that fast
In this case it's not the driver ...But the car ! That makes the difference.
Both. Two drivers had a few runs. It was all about getting around a turn as good as possible and then putting all the power (400kw) down to road as fast as possible.
Both drivers had the same car though
Awesome
I feel bad for the drone
Thats like the speed F1 cars accelerate out of a corners since like 25 years now
yeah sadly F1 cant test it indoor cus petrol smoke thats why F1 has never done it
Give electric cars 25 years and it will too
@@Martin35432 give it another 25 years for ICE engine F1 to double it to 400kph in cornering with futuresl advanced G force adaptation safety suit for the driver
@@jesperhammarlund300 Top Gear done it with F1 and held this record for a while. Then they were topped by a rallycross car which was topped by FE here.
A F1 car used to have it in the early 2000, though they didn't cheat like with Formula E and use a dedicated racetrack @jesperhammarlund300
Try going that fast on DK Mountain then I'll be impressed.
135 in a 1/4 mile is not crazy. Bugatti hits 150 and Nevera hits 170
This is less than 1/4 mile and there was no long braking zone. Plus this is what you get with certain specs. They can make an FE car that puts out 700kW if they want. But this is just what they aim for upcomming year. 350-400kW. It's really impressive what these cars can do with so little energy. The amount of energy they use in a single race is really low. F1 cars burn through more energy during warm up.
I think I'll get one. It's impractical but the wife and kids won't mind. I'll just tow some kind of cart and they'll be fine in that while i zip around.
This doesn’t make sense.
Degrassi would have had it but he put the power down too early
McLaren 🔛🔝
135.9 mph? Bfd
This is my chance to get a top comment but I don’t know what to say
His race car looks so cool. I hope it doesn't catch on fire when he goes way too fast.
no fuel no fire🤷♂
Batteries can still catch fire.
@@still_guns I’m well aware but they won’t just blow up cause of driving
It's a battery, anything can happen. Unlikely sure, but never discount the possibility of a spontaneous failure.
@@MB66_some do. You have suffragette vibes.
And that record will also be broken.
Im not impressed, John Force went faster than that 50 years ago...
It’s a indoor land speed record. Not land speed record in general, a indoor land speed record.
That happened in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦
How is this a World record?because it was in doors? I used to hit over 153 mph in a street car in less then a 1/4 mile 30 years ago. Why does being indoors make a difference. Top fuel in NHRA does over 300 mph!
That car has no soul
Solid! 🤜💥🤛
🇨🇦✌️
now lets see one finish a race without switching cars or batteries
Blud have u ever watched a Fórmula E race in your life?
tell me u didn't do research before commenting without telling me lol
@@axelpepen2642I never knew was real
@@axelpepen2642I’ve never heard of formula e ever.
They stopped switching cars mid race
LMAO
So he says “the new car contributed to this record”……. Contributed? 😵💫. So most of the efforts came from the drive pedalling? Or is the floor open and he is running like n Flintstones car?
Bro got Usainian Bolt as the cameraman. 💀
She doesnt have a clue what shes talking about 😂😂
Really? Anyway - Clarkson
Hello daily dose
Basically Formula One but if elon musk made it
When's the last time formula e won at le man's
Formula E cars dont race at le mans. No formula cars do.
@@sixtenallingersandgren6674 sorry I meant when was the last time an electric vehicle won let man's
@@stewartcash555 What?
In my opinion electric racing is not racing you must smell the oil and hear that sound
okay bye now
Not f1 cars 50 yrs ago going that speed
Yeah that wasnt the point though was it?😂
New car contributed? Didn’t the car literally actually do it? Not to take away from there being a human in the car but….if he did the exact same motions in a Prius, that wouldn’t have happened and if it were another driver in the fast car, THEY would have gotten the record instead right?
well someone has to press the gas pedal. but yes it is 50% human and 50% machine.
but trust me its not just pressing the pedal cus those cars have no traction control so its alot harder to put the power down. even with
AWD.
@@jesperhammarlund300 I don't think I personally could do it but I'm wondering if any f1 driver could have done the same thing if only they were let drive the car instead.
It's kind of different from other records because typically, they're the only one who could have done it which is why they were the first
@@SheikAshiiwell i would say it's certainly a team effort since they developed the car to be the first ones to do it.
ONE WRONG MOVE AND U WILL FIND OUT. A CAR IS NOT TO BE GOING AT THIS SPEED HUMAN ERROR PLAYS A PART.
Dee pack!!
What a boring record. 😪
Also surprised IE is covering European Motorsports.
😏
Mid record, mid 'sport'.
Do u really think e vehicles will solve global warming?
Put a f1 car there and it wil break the record wit 50 kph
well they would. just one problem. F1 cant be used indoors cus petrol gas would fill the room. thats why Formula E broke the *indoor* land speed record. not the outside speed record.
cus its electric and therefore it can be used indoors unlike F1
@@jesperhammarlund300Yet you said nothing when people drive their gas cars in indoor parking lots
No smoke ?? No noise ?? Boooriiing
Innit
Must be an electric car record definitely not the fastest land speed
It took the indoor speed record that used to be held by Tanner Faust.

That’s a stupid record.
Whiny guy
That's because you're not the one breaking it. You're jealous
