Spoil sport! As soon as I saw the T moulding I wanted to see how you made it and then you just disappointed me 😢. Great video mate, another masterclass from Kuffy. I’ve wanted to build my own doors for years but just haven’t had the opportunity.
Haha, I moved the camera waaaaay back because I knew where my hands were going to be. But it was still pretty clear my hands were directly over the blade with 10mm of timber as "protection". It was made in two pieces, a groove in one piece, tongue on the other which made it easy to assemble in a dead straight line.
Sorry to hear about your experience with the Wagner sprayer mate. As you know I love their sprayers but yes they do throw out a bit of overspray, that’s why I almost always do it outside so don’t think you did anything wrong mate.
My backyard is too small, the neighbours park there car right behind the back fence and it would cop all of the overspray. Then I'd cop a spray from them 😂 I'm going to give it another go, otherwise I'll get a airless sprayer when I win powerball.
OH MY GOOD HEAVENS! Your blade is sOoOOOoOoo high on your table saw! 🤬 😉 13:19 I LOVE that you supported that. Probably not necessary but it's good to keep that in mind. 15:17 I've seriously never heard of structural epoxy adhesive Kuffy. That sliding in is amazing. I'm going to have to look for it here. I also like your explanation of what epoxy does when it cures. Why are you painting this...you're _RUINING IT_ (you kind of asked for it) 35:23 I'd love to send you some pictures of my yard. Seriously, your yard looks like some drunk maintenance man has been working on it. Mine looks like it's been abandoned for years. I have trees growing in the center of my gravel driveway. Hey Kuffy, ignore my poor humor. You're a woodworker's woodworker. Most people would look at that and say, "Yep, that's a pretty set of doors." Those of us that make sawdust look at that and see how talented you are. Very good video. I was surprised I made it all the way through...my attention span doesn't do well after 7 minutes. So many tips and ideas to get from this video. Thanks for posting it.
I've never been a fan of using the blade low just because someone says it's safer. A low blade presents other issues that I can't be bothered with. I just don't touch a blade that has power supplied to it. Supporting the tenon while bandsawing the wedge slot just stops it from bouncing around a little bit. It allows me to use light pressure with my hands and arms, instead of needing to apply some muscle work. There are some super structural epoxies available. We don't use them in woodwork, but the guys building skyscrapers certainly do :D I'm pretty sure the Techniglue epoxy I use is pretty similar to West System with some of those white filler beads added to thicken it up. You're the first person to bother to comment about keeping the doors clear coated. I might keep the front door clear coated when I rebuild that one. I've been planning, and putting time aside to work on my backyard for over a decade now. I end up just spraying weed killer and calling it a day at that :D Thanks mate. My attention span struggles to make it to the end of a 15 second TikTok. It takes a nice bouncy set of jugs to entice me to watch till the end these days :D
@@kuffyswoodwork haha, yes, jugs are a great ADD drug. We should employ more jugs in our schools to help the attention deficiency, though, not sure if they would help with scores. 🤔
Been researching door construction while building a pair of my own. Have to say this is by far the best video on exterior door construction on TH-cam. You really pulled out all the stops and they look fantastic.
I think the most important part of door construction is the joinery. It needs to be strong enough to be self bracing. It'd be nice to have a diagonal brace, but it changes the look of the door dramatically. It's also wise to limit the amount of exposed endgrain for an exterior door. Thanks for watching.
You might be a slobby pig mate but when you decide it is time to do something... no one does it better. Now... about that other rotten set right next to the nice new ones... 😜😜
Haha, thanks mate. It is true, once I decide to do something, it will be done..eventually, and it will be done right. One thing that I decided to do was lose some weight and clean the house. I've lost 6kg in 30 days, and the downstairs wouldn't make girls vomit on sight anymore. The other set of doors will be replaced with a window, just saving up some cash to get it done.
I think I might make a specific mortise and tenon video on my other channel, it'll save me from having to explain things in any great detail for these videos which should be more 'commercial'.
@@dainermade My second channel does SOOOO much better than this one. I'm considering dumping this channel altogether and starting a new channel, slowly uploading re-edited old videos which were good projects, but bad videos.
Mate absolutely stunning work and great video and i like the table saw comments i get when i freehand cutting the live edge off lol, but those are stunning mate cheers and good work
Haha, I've seen your freehand cutting. I don't have a problem with it. The worst that can happen is that it can bind on the blade and ejects the timber back at you. It might look scary, but it's a non-issue 🤷♂️
Not bad, perfect and I like it too! Not too easy though. You have skills galore, Kuffy! What about the other doors? Maybe you will make some sexy canopy as well!
Beautiful video, great craftsmanship and fantastic explanations and instructions. My only observations would be about the glazing beads on the outside of the doors. They might be great for the strong winds and weather aspect but it also makes life slightly easier for the local unfriendly neighbourhood burglar. I accept that the beading and silicone may well deter them, but thieves will always take the easy or easier option, which exterior beading gives them. Having said all of that I have still subbed.
I thought about the same thing regarding thieves. The way I figure it is, if they want to mess about removing a glazing bead and then prying up toughened glass from silicone, then they are stupid thieves. Keep it simple, just throw a brick through any of the standard glass windows around the house...just to find out all of the doors are deadlocked so they'll be climbing back out through the window they came in 😂
Kuffy!! The doors are amazing!!! Video is full of great tips and tricks. I love the thicknesser trick and cutting the shape and sending the small pieces through! Great result!!
Thanks Ainslee. There aren't many good options available to a small shop to make the small window beading. Using a tapering jig through the thicknesser is about the best we have available.
Sweet looking doors, nicely made and if you ever decide you want to send them to the dump, I'd be happy to do the job for you. Maybe a little awning project in the near future?
A great project Kuffy are you going to do the one next to it? I have one of those Wagner sprayers and find it a total pain in the neck always get masses of overspray. I also bought an Ozito branded one at it has the same issues.
I think I'll replace the other pair of doors with a window. I do need to make a front door and a laundry door (same issues), so I'll test out that Wagner sprayer a little better. Otherwise, I'm going to put a airless sprayer on my list of things I'll never be able to afford 🤣
Yeah, the pair of doors beside these ones have suffered the same fate. Rotted out quickly. I'm considering putting a window in that position instead, because I don't need 2 sets of French doors in that room. This way I could put a couch under the new window and it will make the space a little more usable.
All of the doors in this house failed. They're hopeless. I'll build a new front door and laundry door, but I think that other pair of French doors will be replaced with a bi-fold window, possibly a breakfast bar.

The joinery is the reason why I made them myself. Commercial doors are kind of mediocre.

It wasn't very much to be honest. The glass from Ikea was about $110 and the timber was about $250. If only my labour had a dollar value 🤣
