      Tanya would survive agaist eldar?, yes, T'au?, yes, Tyranids?, no, Tyranids are the only ones that i see as a real problem, they dont have complex strategys and dont give you that much time to react if they are on fleets, now, genes take years to try something, so Tanya could win agaist Genes to.
      Nekrons?, i have no clue, cuz, considering how Tanya is, one way to put all her powers would be that Tanya learned how to use Nekron tech and living metal, so she can fly, change the type of ammo and have more power deppending on her will, also she is a psyker, but very strong, ala Malkador style.
      Probably she would be from some paradise world, but wanting to serve the imperial army at all cost and having her potential noticed quickly, but, there are 2 possible ways depending on the imperial phase.
      If Guiliman is already alive again and dont need the armor, etc...So she should be noticed for the oficials quickly and become a important figure, *oooor* if the lords of earth are a thing yet, them, they would want some loli ass and dont let Tanya left one of them never, like she was some type of personal guard and general to do contingency with the minotaurs.

    Something that's hidden behind Tanya's cynical, calculated evil: None of her subordinates, not even the seemingly cute and kind 2nd lieutenant Viktoriya Serebryakov, ever question what she's about to do, only how to do it. Viktoriya didn't care about bombing a factory in the middle of a city, her issue was with giving them a chance to evacuate and take important stuff from the factory. When they attack the civilians of a city with the flimsy technical excuse that they were warned and therefore any that remained did so willingly and could be classified as enemy combatants, Viktoriya comforts one of her comrades telling him that it's OK because they followed their leader and she followed the rules. The only character in the Empire's military that ever questions her on moral grounds, Lt. colonel Erich von Rerugen, eventually comes around to her way of thinking.

      Something that usually slips the attention of watchers is that Tanya has indeed committed no crimes in Arene, it was all on Republicans. It was they who initiated combat in the city and it was therefore their duty to provide the civilians with a way out. That proclamation that Tanya did first thing after arrival? It was what the Republican troops were obligated to do from the start. Except they shat on their duty under international law: first when they captured the city, second when they opened fire on Tanya's troops using residential buildings as cover, and third, when they ignored Tanya's request to send the commanding officer for negotiations about civilians' evac. Only when they were beaten they "suddenly" remembered about the civilians and lined up right in front of them. That looked like they were protecting them, but modern international law has another name for this tactic, and it's using civilians as shields. And they still didn't make even an attempt to communicate with the Imperials about this evacuation.
      Oh, and they also executed unarmed prisoners and used places of worship as staging ground and a cover from enemy fire - either of these is also very much a war crime in YS universe.
      They were basically terrorists at this point, and indulging them in any way would only result in numerous other towns becoming Arenes as well.
      Anime does a really good job of obscuring these details because it's trying to show the "evil Tanya", but manga in particular shows explicitly how the Allied officers collectively decided to just collectively forget about Arene since all the evidence they had showed that their troops were the obvious criminals in that situation.

    • @wouterkessel4852
      @wouterkessel4852 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Eleyvie Except in the anime they took back the city by a combined air assault and a small scale popular uprising. They don't have any real way of evacuating the civilians outside of just sending them out into the countryside filled with soldiers that would shoot them on sight, so they need the troops with them to protect them, additionally those evacuations started the moment Imperial troops started nearing the city already. However, you don't seem to get that such things take hours to organize even in the best of situations, let alone in a city in the middle of enemy territory that is about to turn into a battlefield. They don't send a commanding officer over because by this point the devil of the rhine has made it blatantly clear that she doesn't follow the rules of war, and would thus probably just shoot said officer the moment he arrives to speak with her.

    • @Eleyvie
      @Eleyvie 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@wouterkessel4852 The idea that imperial soldiers would shoot evacuating civilians on sight is new, did anything happen before that would validate this claim? Not to mention that the republicans didn't even *try* to contact the imperials to arrange for the evacuation.
      Overall, it sounds like "our enemies are monsters, so we'll commit war crimes first, and pin the blame on them because it's them being monsters that forced us to do that!".
      And what does it matter how the city was taken? The laws of war in Tanyaverse are pretty clear on this: the republicans initiated combat in the city, so it's their duty to consider the civilian lives.

      It’s a munitions factory being operated by non-combatant civilians. The building is a valid military target but the workers are not. Under the international wartime laws of Tanya’s universe, non-com civilians are not to be deliberately targeted with lethal force and must be warned so that they can vacate the combat zone before they are put in danger. A civilian that receives a warning yet remains where they are is seen as at fault should they be injured or killed, absolving the attackers of guilt in the legal sense.
      Tanya initially asked Weiss to deliver the warning as it would be taken more seriously. Her subordinates insisted she give the warning instead as the highest-ranked officer and she misread their intentions and decided to ham it up to boost the morale of her troops. The law as written does not protect non-com civilians in this case since they did receive an explicit warning.
      Even if Tanya has the voice of a child, the factory workers should have found it suspicious that a little girl with a presumably heavy accent from the central Empire but speaks coherent (even with the lisp and childish phrasing she was adding) Dacian has gotten access to their intercom. A bomb threat is still a bomb threat even if a child calls it in. If I remember correctly, in the light novel they are given enough time to evacuate before the attack but chose not to, while the timing is more ambiguous in the animé.

    I think Tanya is a high-functioning psychopath for these reasons:
    -In her previous life (and if we take into consideration the LN, in which his boss told him to be wary of the people he fired), he failed to understand the concern for his life, as he could not put himself in the ex-worker's place and understand angry/fearful people can commit crazy acts;
    -Even though she does start to let her soldiers help and she herself works in team with them, I think it's more of a "I must be loyal thing", not "I want to be loyal", as psychopaths, when they are aware of their limitations, use connections to people in order to get around those limits. In other words, it's like a contract. They protect her. And like the system demands, she protects them;
    -Also, in the LN, she admits in her previous life, her friends were people she found interesting because of common interests, but little else. And apparently, his grades were quite low. This last one might not look important, but it is proved psychopaths have just as much, if not more, difficulties in academical intelligence, which was a major factor that lead him to choose her previous career. Yes, I know psychopaths usually see themselves above the system, but we can't forget they're also humans. Depending on the person, their interpretations of superiority can be widely diverse. Yes, I am aware she can often explain her reasoning and understand the system, but we've seen she does try to find loopholes every now and then without outright disobeying the rules.
    -Finally, in the way she fights, even though there's a certain pleasure to it (probably because of the adrenaline of the moment or something), she's very organized and can manage her impulses to work on her favor. I believe psychopaths often train themselves to use their flaws as weapons that they can keep under control.
    But of course, this is just my opinion. Feel free to disagree and present counter arguments.

    • @jonquilgemstone
      @jonquilgemstone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      I mean, I think she would agree that she's a psychopath. Being X saw no reason to grant a reincarnation, except for the possibility of getting a sinner to convert. A normal person might've had some glimmer of faith in their soul, even if they would have had to admit they were wrong about atheism. Plus, I theorize that since Tanyaverse Germany isn't evil from what we the anime audience know, Being X probably saw a perfect champion to give them a fighting chance: a tactically clever psycho who follows rules and is only concerned with getting a cushy desk job someday.
      I'm curious about your opinion of the mad scientist who converted, as his reaction to God speaking to him was a direct foil to Tanya's reaction. To refresh your memory, Being X was going to bless Tanya with a miracle, which she rejected rudely. The then-atheist mad scientist received a message from God in a dream, giving him inspiration to try his Type-95 project one last time. After it miraculously worked, the mad scientist became an adamant believer while Tanya now has to pray every time she wants to use the Type-95 as a form of mental conditioning from Being X.
      Later on, I think the scientist was the one talking about the world war in a church, and while his observations were similar to Tanya's they came from a place of faith, unlike hers.
      I think the mad scientist is meant to show how someone crazy, clever, and stubborn would typically respond to a manifestation of a higher power. This may align with your theory about Tanya being a high-functioning psychopath, if her atypical response can be explained using the symptoms of being a psychopath.

    • @JabamiLain
      @JabamiLain 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@jonquilgemstone now that you talked about the scientist...I remember that on the church's window, she appeared to be represented as an archangel who came down to the world to deliver God's justice (which is the exact opposite of what she wants). Personally, I don't judge the scientist for falling for Being X's tricks. After all, gratitude is a hell of a drug. Though, I also recall him saying he feels lost, and you would expect a priest to feel fulfilled. So, all of these factors make me wonder. Why do you think there's an angelic like figure resembling Tanya ? Do you think that's really how Being X started to see her like ? Or, do you think that was whatever it was left of the Empire trying to honor her memory ?

    • @jonquilgemstone
      @jonquilgemstone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@JabamiLain Good question! I think Being X essentially killed two birds with one stone by simultaneously punishing Tanya and giving the Empire (which was the one initially being invaded in this universe) the champion it needed. Tanya, much like a real 'demon', wants to rebel against 'God' but can't help falling right into his plans anyway. The Empire probably never finds out Tanya truly does mean it when she insults God, because to use the Type 95 she has to pray aloud in battle. And she lived in a nunnery as an orphan, and she spends time in churches alone.
      Also, I took the scientist's "I'm still lost" as a sign that he grew in humility, acknowledging that he isn't perfect and doesn't know everything. A lot of old religious people would say they are still learning/lost because that's what often happens when a person gets more self-aware.
      All in all, I think Being X used Tanya for a greater good while also trying to destroy her pride. Everything I mentioned probably led to people thinking Tanya was some kind of saint in the making, or even an angel of death fighting for justice.
      The issue of Tanya not believing in God doesn't appear to fall in line with her usual values, since the 'free will' part of her values already answers the existence of evil, and the 'following rules and 'getting a peaceful retirement' aspects of her beliefs would imply she should follow God's rules for a better afterlife. So, the issue of her disbelief seems, to me, to actually boil down to her being extremely prideful. Thus, it would still make sense for a benevolent God to put every measure into making her convert in this final reincarnation, since her lack of belief is a symptom of a truly hopeless soul bound for damnation. And free will would mean that if Tanya doesn't convert, she'll probably choose Hell before accepting God and Heaven for eternity.
      This is assuming there is an afterlife after the reincarnations end, which I think is plausible by the fact Being X assessed Tanya before deciding whether or not it was worth reincarnating her.
      Now, whether Being X is actually God or not, is something I somehow don't think the series will ever answer. Regardless, I can't bring myself to think of Being X as truly evil yet, since the determination to break Tanya's pride still has a very plausible explanation. However, there is one thing I noticed in Being X's introduction scene: he implied it was beyond his capacity to tend to EVERY human being and their suffering. Being X also had to have a conversation with Tanya before determining there was hope if given one more life to believe. Even then, that approach working seems to be more of a bet on Being X's part than a certainty. If God is omnipotent in this setting, just one of these factors alone should automatically disqualify Being X as God...but since Christianity is not the primary religion in Japan, the idea of a truly unlimited and all-knowing God might not even be something the creator would fully grasp. Not to mention, the whole point of such a concept of divinity is its unfathomable nature; thus, it would be difficult or even impossible to replicate it in fiction.
      So Being X COULD be the real God in this fictional universe...
      Still, theorizing is only fun if we scour all possibilities, right? So, what would Being X be, if not God? After all, Being X can reincarnate people. Well, a possible explanation would be that Being X is able to essentially transfer people to different bodies *right before* they die, so they technically aren't dead when reincarnating until Being X lets them die for real.
      But why? Well, maybe Being X is some kind of demon, or even a powerful being who is widely acknowledged as a deity. We never see any other religions portrayed, except for one more: Christianity.
      In the previous world (presumably ours), we know all the religions existing, but in the scene we only see people wearing crosses while the characters talk about faith. In the next world, where Tanya is born as Tanya, we see priests, nuns, and churches...but there's a major difference.
      Instead of a crucifix or a tabernacle or even a bare cross, we see an angelic-looking figure which seems to represent Being X. Since the Christian God is never shown as an angel, it is possible the crosses and similarities to Christian aesthetic could be intentionally misleading as to whose--and therefore, what type--of God Being X is claiming to be. Being X specifically cites Earth's population of 7 billion during his introductory scene, but we see him much more involved in that other world which Tanya is born in. Presumably, that world already existed. So, what if Being X was already being worshipped so predominantly in worlds like that one, he simply refers to himself as God? What if he recently gained our world as territory and is starting to make his presence known in it, too? The fact we only see one religion in Tanya's world, but the story begins in our world which has multiple religions, would imply that Being X was involved there and was only now getting involved in our world at the story's beginning.
      But then, the question is...IS Being X the real God, even if he's not the Christian God his worshippers' aesthetic looks like? Tanya alludes to "the Father and the Son" in one of her muttered prayers for battle, but Tanya also references other things from our world which the other characters don't recognize. This implies we shouldn't take for granted that everything Tanya says exists in that world.
      So, Being X's followers might not even believe in a Trinity. This is reinforced by the fact Being X is portrayed by that angelic-looking statue, and the Tanya-based seraph takes the place typical of the Dove and tongues of fire used to portray the Holy Spirit.
      So again I ask: Is Being really supposed to represent the Christian God, or were those crosses in the train scene intentionally misleading? If the latter, then who is he? The real and only God? Or one of multiple gods? Or the Devil in disguise? Oh, but if any demon, then why get a prideful atheist to convert if he'd already be damned anyway? Would he be some type of Japanese demon? Or an extraterrestrial?
      What are your thoughts on the matter of who Being X is?

    • @JabamiLain
      @JabamiLain 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@jonquilgemstone after reading your text...I don't think Being X is a demon, since demons value unrestrained freedom, which is the exact opposite of the deity's intentions. Regarding the alien part...it could be that. There are scientific theories in the real world claiming that there is a stage in evolution in which a species becomes capable of manipulating the very fabric of reality, and those who believe in that theory say the being we perceive as God may actually be part of a race who already went throught that proccess, with us being the creatures' children.
      Also, I actually think Tanya's world was created in a timeline AFTER our world's own end. You know, like a do over. Improve on your project.
      But...if Being X wants Tanya to convert this badly and wants her to be the Empire's champion, then why choose this mad dog called Mary Sue as her own champion ? She certainly doesn't do a good job in selling "Join Being X's religion !" shirts. I know I wouldn't have chosen her. She's even worse than Tanya. Way more sinful. The VA's in Japan do a lot of training and go through tough selections in order to make it as VA's since the voice acting market is very competitive there. They are on a whole another level comparing to VA's from other countries, which are generally amateurish or just ppl that happened to "fall" into this job. This particular VA is talented, but most Japan professionals would be able to ace a child/elderly voice as it is almost required that they have large ranges.

      She didn't commit a war crime here. She, the commanding officer, gave fair and legal warning of the attack, and only attacked the facility, then left.
      The child soldier question wouldn't be on her, but on whoever approved her recruitment. Though considering her magical talent I would think it wouldn't be an issue really.

    I was so surprised how much I loved this anime. Seriously. Tanya literally just wants to live a quiet easy life. Like getting promoted and doing paperwork. She's dedicated to whatever she does, by whatever means. And she IS EVIL, make no mistake. This is not even about some anti-hero, this is about how the bad guy thinks. It's about how everything is justified, and how people she is fighting against and beside have to figure out what they are doing, i.e. war and slaughter, and how it can possibly correlate with their ethics and morals, all while struggling against nationalist pride.

      She's not evil though. Yeah she's got a severely twisted mentality, but a lot of it is a direct result of the situation she's been thrust into. There's a lot of background that the anime didn't adequately adapt from the source material, such as the mental corruption from using the Type 95 Computation Orb, and a lot of the events were glossed over/simplified for the anime production.

    I see a bunch of comments ranging from "aw so cute o noh bomba" to "you see this is smart bc light novel says".
    This isn't a war crime by written law. The offensive party engaged their target after signaling to the involved party(ies) that they were about to strike. The defense didn't listen, and thus cannot persecute a foreign officer for complying with international warfare agreements. The difference between adaptation of the source media is tangential.
