      the last half of this video is Lynch absolutely not being a madman. The beginning kinda shows the eccentricities you have to tolerate to get the brilliance he reveals at the end.

      hnsrsmssn Perfect interpretation, my friend. That’s genuinely spot on. David Lynch is very much an eccentric human being, it doesn’t take a genius to realise that, but good god he’s an absolute genius. There is simply nobody like David Lynch, the world will seem twice as dark once his presence leaves us, let’s just all pray it isn’t soon.

      @@zyaffeeI'm a Millenial and I think I can answer that by simply pointing to the fact that Lynch's work is optimistic, meanwhile modern pop culture is about as vapid, gloomy, and vacuous as anyone in previous times could possibly imagine. Modern media is largely soulless. Say anything you want about Lynch's work but soulless absolutely does not apply. Also his work highlights the dark and light parts of existence, where nowadays media is either straight dark or completely saccharine tripe pretending to be wholesome. TLDR; you just don't see his level of authenticity or optimism in mainstream art anymore.

      He shows women in a light (literal also) no other director did, to my knowledge. He truly displays humanity through them while most can mostly show flesh alone. He did it for years and often showed off his paintings. It was on its own website, a really tiny, bad quality video and he started this before youtube was even much of a thing.

      @@yourdad9168 A blessing can be happenstance, it doesn't imply manifest destiny.
      Wood has certain properties that make it extremely versatile, it's very much a blessing because life as humans know it would be impossible without it, let alone civilization...
      Just try to imagine a caveman without wood. No spears no fire, no tents.
      For that matter we're descended from tree-dwelling primates and the global ecology/evolution of the last 400 million years has been heavily influenced by the mere presence of trees (and consequently by the special physical qualities of wood).
      Without them you just have the bloated swamps of the Devonian.

      Yeah wood is a major theme, especially in Twin Peaks. You know how Lynch talks in this video about how you have to translate ideas into a medium? He treats wood as a holy thing in Twin Peaks, because it's the original medium of creativity. You make things with it. Furniture. The walls of the Great Northern. And it comes from nature, so it's close to spirituality, like the Log Lady's log-husband. Doubly-holy.

    • @BluJean6692
      @BluJean6692 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      WorldChampion I agree! Though just to clarify: its wanton use lies at the opposite extreme but twin peaks clearly has no shortage of trees despite a healthy lumber industry.

    It’s crazy what happens when a director actually understands art rather than making just some professional, well made product for a studio.
    The way that there is a palpable cohesion in a lot of the imagery, aesthetics, and themes of Lynch’s work is so enriching. The music, lighting, color palettes, placeless locations, unique and quirky characters, and esoteric themes all unite to create this specific aesthetic that’s all Lynch’s own.

Naomi Watts, Laura Dern, Harry Dean Stanton, Kyle MacLachlan, they all appear in many of his works and they all have such positive things to say. Lynch creates such terrifying, surreal, and expository movies, but still manages to come off as so genuine and positive in such a charming way. It makes me love his work that much more. Because, as good as they were, the shiny silver (stainless actually) goblet, and ... what they made that "stuff" out of, was, yes...probably poison. (Figure of speech.) Definitely not good for you...to eat every day especially for 7 years in a row. BUT, have to say, it worked for him. (The full story with the dumpster dive is a hoot.)

  • @NirvanaNectar
    @NirvanaNectar 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    He’s a beautiful human and I hope he’s around for a while longer. I don’t think any human will harbor quite the natural beauty he does after he’s gone. Not just a national treasure but a treasure to the world. Just a pure genuine man. If he spoke for baby boomers, if they were more like him, I feel like the world would love them quite a lot more.
    I don’t think it’s a generational problem though. I think David is just one of those rare misunderstood angels in life that the world gets once in a great while. He’s truly an inspiration on how to look at life. When given nothing, you can still find that perfect sunny weather and the perfect temperature if you give it enough time and look deep enough.
    I’m mentally ill from a bad childhood directly caused by boomers and thanks to him, I know the bad doesn’t speak for them all.
    Love you Mr. Lynch, please keep doing what you do best: being yourself.

    What a fantastic personality. A true power of artistic direction. Just that final quote and compilation has so much energy and soul to it. You can see why all the teams who have worked with him have such an attachment, and actively refused to work unless he was leading them. He essentially cultivated a family with each and every member.
    He joked about comparing himself to Einstein, but I genuinely believe he's one of, if not THE greatest artistic mind of this industry at the moment.
