Hi Micaela, I wanted to say thank you, because of the awesome work you've done with advertising Fukuoka, my wife and I are looking to go there in May. I'm hoping to see Scandal on their 47 Prefecture tour and i wanted to see them in Hiroshima and Fukuoka is much closer than Tokyo. ありがとうございました じゃだね!
I'm so glad that you've been having fun with friends. Your honmei choco for Tatsu was so adorable. I bet he was thrilled to receive your gift. And how sweet are Lon and Kit!
Thank you Micaela for an enjoyable vlog! I find every detail you show to be interesting; everything seems so different from Nova Scotia. We are in the middle of a blizzard right now. Schools and stores are closed. The streets have not been plowed and when I look out the window everything is white with snow blowing. Thank you for taking us shopping with you in Fukuoka. I'm sure Tatsu will love the chocolates; very thoughtful of you. Thank you! Thumbs up!
You and Tatsu are just so charming! These vlogs give off an endearing, authentic, slice-of-life vibe that keeps us wondering what the next video will bring. Best wishes to you from the East coast USA.
Please don't be lonely💛 I feel you but I don't even know what to say.. And what is there to say that would help.. Happy Valentines day with the fur babies🐶🐱💕 And in case, there's us, who love you too!!❤️❤️
Awesome. The station brings back memories of when I went there for work last year. I hope you can do more exploration videos of some of the dense places like fukuoka station.
Therapy days are so important! :) I have to drag myself into doing something nice for myself without feeling guilty, because spending time like that makes me feel like I should be productive instead, which keeps me from actually enjoying my me-time. So I kinda have to talk myself into self-care, but once I do, I am glad I did it and feel the benefits, especially mentally! I am glad you had a fun day, you look happy and relaxed.
Yay! Watched your newest main channel video and wanted more so i checked this channel and you just uploaded this one! I Bet it's really hard for you right now but keep it up! The best thing for a lonely person is getting out of the house! Loved the video!
Great video. And thank you again for putting Fukuoka on the map for me! Without you I think I wouldn't have included Fukuoka in my trip to Japan this March. Now I'm starting in Fukuoka and I can't think of a better city for this :)
Hi Micaela! thank you so much for all of your great videos :) You inspired me to visit Fukuoka! I coming this March to Japan, and I'll be staying in Fukuoka for 2 nights :) I'm so excited!
Always great to see Fukuoka again. I feel so lucky to have lived there for a year! ^-^ I never ate at the basement restaurant though :/ next time I go I will remember it! :)
Cute video, loved how Kit and Lawn (I know that's not the right spelling but it's just funnier that way) plopped themselves in front of the heater. Are fireplaces common over there? Seems like they would come in handy more than a heater.
More Tea !. With the number of different ones you have you could start up a review channel. "Tea is nought but this: first you heat the water, then you make the tea. Then you drink it properly. That is all you need to know." - Sen Rikyu
Did you know that time where the sky and everything is tinged that cool, pretty blue after the sun has gone down has a name? It's called the Blue Hour 😍 doesn't happen every night though and it doesn't tend to last long, because science. 😎
good video ! slowly brainstorming ideas of the places i want to visit next time i am in japan . was supposed to go this month but covid-19 ruined that .. been to japan 3 times now . it would have been the 4th visit this year but sadly nope . so im just looking at vids right now and came upon this . interesting city . Fukuoka .
I love Lush as well but I've had to stop using them because their products give me migraines. I think its some sort of artificial fragrance they use now after they changed their shower gels to shower creams and the bath bombs became more scented.
I used to love Lush, but nowadays whenever I enter the store, I get so overwhelmed with the scents that after that point everything smells the same to me. And then I end up not buying anything, haha. I know it's one of their signature traits (the strong scented bath bombs/cosmetics), but I can't do anything about it... I want to enjoy it again! 😭 But I also want to keep my smell senses intact, because I might need them later on in life...
I work as an international consultant in post and most of the time international mail really does have sender info as "international" in the database. :D
There needs to be Thumbs up, Thumbs down and REALLY BIG HUG BUTTON FOR THE PEOPLE WE FOLLOW! She made me sad for her and I wanted to hug her but no button! :( Come on TH-cam!
Haha xD. I think it's supposed to be "だ~いすき". だい~すき sounds little funny but it's unique though haha. " 国際様" "Mr International" lol. Oh man that was hilarious. I just love your life. I feel like I'm watching a great movie. Never get me boerd. Thanks for sharing and Happy Valentine's Day!!
Yo~ thank you for teaching my girlfriend and I about places to see in Fukuoka. We're going to visit my brother and family there on Sunday and wondered if you had discovered any new breakfast places or awesome BBQ spots. Also, tried to find a way to send this in a PM but couldn't seem to find a way. :P
+Jess N where are you staying? All the good restaurant places I know are in Tenjin: For traditional eggs and pancakes type breakfast, Eggs and Things in Tenjin has a new menu with new and improved menu with waffles, crepes, pancakes, omelette and eggs Benedict. I wasn't a fan in the past but they seem to have changed things up lately so I've been meaning to go back. They're open early and do breakfast all day, so they're a solid option. Bills is a little more expensive but the food is great. It's Australian. The interior is nice. Ricotta Pancakes are delish. It's a nice safe "family meal" place like Eggs and Things. Ivorish has "gourmet french toast" and it's a little pricey but it's the best french toast you'll ever have. It's in Daimyo. Sometimes there's a lineup though. There's also a french toast/pancake place in the basement of Solaria called "Desser+" that I really like. Their berry french toast is so so so so so good! The seats are kinda small though so it's better suited for 1-2 people. I usually drop in when I'm in the city running errands alone. As for dinner... (to be continued.)
+Jess N As for BBQ I recommend Kiwamiya in Nishijin (the video is on the main channel: Ciaela) as my #1 favorite place. But in Daimyo I like Buchi as well! I think they have an English menu if needed too: (There's a Kiwamiya in Daimyo too but I like the Nishijin location better.) I also like Marutanya in Akasaka, which specializes in beef tongue, but you might need a reservation to snag a seat on the weekend. Otherwise there are tons of options in the Parco/Iwataya/Solaria area. I prefer the restaurants in Solaria personally, but there are tons of options. El Borracho is great for Mexican food--their carnitas are sooooo good. And they make their own tequila!
We are staying in Sawara area. Thank you for the recommendations. we only have a week here to visit Family and brother's new baby! Therefore, we're trying to jam as much Fukuoka in as possible before heading up to Osaka/Kyoto for our own backpacking. Really love your vids and will definitely be checking out some, if not all, those restaurants.
It's almost been a year since you posted this video, but with that recent floral Lupicia tea you have to Sharla for Xmas, I decided to rewatch this vlog and find out where the store is...or was. It seems like the one in Tenjin closed? I am coming to Fukuoka soon and want to stock up on some of their lovely teas.
I don’t think they’ve closed? There’s one in Daimaru in the basement in Tenjin, and there’s one in Hakata Station in the basement of Hankyu. I was just at the Lupicia in Tenjin in one of my vlogs from earlier December too, so I am pretty sure it’s still there!
Micaela's Japanese Life Thanks Micaela! The info online may be outdated, so I always try to ask a local 😉 I ordered their いちご&バニラ緑茶 online here in China for what I now realized was 3x the normal price 🤦🏼♀️ It's delicious though, so I want to buy more in Fukuoka.
I haven’t tried that one! I think I’ll give it a shot next time I’m in the store 😍😍😍 last time, I got a mango citrus rooibos called jardin sauvage that I really adore. It’s got yellow flower petals in it, and it’s a nice sweet tea.
so I really want to go to Japan this year and I want to stay in Fukuoka. can you help me understand how to get there from major airports? how expensive are hotels or Airbnb's? what do you recommend for an amateur Japanese speaker from Brooklyn, NY that's reeling from a break up, that's trying to find herself, who wants to immerse herself in Japan but is traveling alone? help and advice is really appreciated.
+ktlynnb From Major airports as in, from NY? You can either fly NY -> Seoul -> Fukuoka, or NY -> Narita -> Fukuoka, I believe. No need to even stop or get off the plane in Tokyo. April/May/June and Sept/Oct/November are the cheapest seasons to visit, and have the best weather (save for they rainy season in May). Otherwise it'll be too hot, or too cold. You should be able to stay up to 90 days on a tourist visa. Airbnbs are easy to find! Open up the website and look for locations close to Hakata or Tenjin, and you'll be fine! There are plenty of things to do/see at each location. Fukuoka is very international, more and more restaurants have English menus, and intercity trains/subways/busses will have English as well. You can always source restaurants, events, and even meetups through our international magazine Fukuoka Now's website. The idea of visiting somewhere far away from home with little experience is frightening, but the truth is once you're outside your element your survival instincts kick in and you make it work :)
Micaela's Japanese Life you are amazing and such an inspiration. thank you SO MUCH for responding. this really helps me. I am so thrilled to go travel. just need to pull the trigger.
+ktlynnb When I was having a hard time a few years back I went on a solo trip to Thailand and it was really scary, I ran into a bit of trouble (especially with scamming taxi drivers who shut off the meter and wouldn't let me out of the car until I yelled and made a scene) but I survived and came back stronger, braver, and more confident in myself. Fukuoka isn't near to as sketchy or scammy, but it's a big step for a beginner, and I think you'd enjoy the change of scenery!
Micaela's Japanese Life thank you :) I'm excited to take a big step. I need to build myself back up again and be independent. I can't think of a better way right now. I've been meaning to do this for the longest time. it's really the right time right now and I deserve it.
hahah, boring banking money shit hahahahaha. Great opening music and sound track in general. Makeup and lipstick is spot on. You a such a thoughtful GF.
Could you use less makeup? I've watched you for years and you've never annoyed me with caked on makeup. Now all of a sudden it's like you're doing a stage musical. (no need to reply, just giving you feedback as an onscreen personality)
I love the subtle hints of bitterness when you talk about how great it is that tatsu is not there ^^ I'm the exact same way!!!
+123melbell Hahaha, sometimes I think I can get away with people not noticing my snarkyness, but I'm so transparent haha.
on the bright side, time to go crazy on bath bombs
such a cute idea for sending tatsu a valentines gift 💜

I'm so glad you chose to visit Fukuoka over Tokyo! I hope you like it as much as I do!

As usual, thanks for sharing. Tatsu is lucky to have a girl like you.

So like I TOTALLY need those pancakes in my life

+Shelby C It's everything.

What's the name of the song used in the beginning of the video? It's sounds great.
だーいすき / だいーすき struggles hahaha.
Funny to see you just decided to drop it and use 変態 instead. lol
+Hinako Ogawa Hahaha yeppp
Oh my god When I received an absent form, my mailman wrote it's from "外国" , and that was from colorpop!
Hi, I just discovered your channel. Quick question: when you say working, what is your job?
Oh no, sorry. I sas that you had a main channel where it's all explained 😂
Birdreamy what does she do? Just scoured main channel & all I can find is project references thnx
Fukuoka's weak point is that Yakuzas has biggest influence around the city among the main Japanese big cities.
+A Coldn'Dry Realist LnE I think you're thinking of Kiyakyushu, which is technically Fukuoka but an entirely different city.
