You're wrong. The Gulf of Tonkin incident was fabricated to justify U.S. involvement in the war. Yeah. Well many of Vietnam war stories are very tragic and not great memories. VIetnam is a very green lush country but that war was extremely horrific. I served in the military and some of the Vietnam War personnel still active duty told us some horrible stories that you wouldn't want to experience first hand. War is not entertainment.

Vietnamese people are very kind and hospitable. Back in the day my aussie friend went over with me to finally marry his wife there. He needed someone to break the ice and warm things up with his wife's family. Poor guy was nervous. So I did what we Australians do best. I grabbed some beers with them and threw on my laid back Australian culture and had them laughing all night whilst having a great piss up. It was a very successful night. I haven't been back there in a long time but most of the people I met were incredibly kind towards me.

I am Australian and have been married to my Vietnamese wife since 2006. We have two teenage kids together. My father inlaw was an NVA soldier and had to walk from North to South to fight. He was wounded in battle, shot in the leg by the ARVN (South Vietnamese fighting on the side of the Americans).
They are still even finding bodies from the World Wars in Europe, really depends on the soil (clay preserves well). After a few decades, the remains are most likely gone, in most cases...
My dad never won the lottery but when he called to see if his birthday was drawn. He screamed with joy and my great Grandma came in to ask what had happen. “He said I don’t need have to go to Nam!”
Lucky him. My father was drafted and was in Vietnam for a year. He witnessed around 25+ members from his unit die, and eventually got severe Dengue Fever and had to be removed from the combat zone. The PTSD from the war f-cked him over for the rest of his life. ..... War=Profit for the rich, the poor get screwed over.

I understand the reason they are proud about their heritage and flag. Back in the day they defeated the strongest army in the world, through their ultimate sacrifices and resistance.
@@shanedude91We can blame Henry Kissinger for extending the Cold War and Bombing campaigns in Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos; continually raging the burning desire to kill the invaders (the US). It’s the same thing that happens everywhere, you bomb a house and break up a family, that child is gonna grow up to become another threat against the nation who bombed him. The US didn’t technically “win” the war in the format you’re thinking. The main goal was not achieved, and it was a large loss of life on both sides attempting to prevent the inevitable. The US was eventually forced to withdraw in the same regard as they eventually withdrew from Afghanistan. They didn’t “win” anything but a bunch of caskets, widows, and heartbroken families.
@@OLDMANWAFFLES you're putting words in my mouth, I never used the word "win." Of course I know that the goals of the US were not achieved. But as far as militarily, the Vietnamese didn't "defeat" the US. They fought hard for sure, but it was not a military victory.

You are wrong to assume they are poor. Many market sellers are in fact well off. Vietnamese typically dont like to flaunt wealth.
The great thing about your videos is that sometimes you correct people on how to be proud of their heritage, no matter the circumstances.. that’s very honourable and actually needed to thrive in the future.. cheers bro
Vietnam is such a beautiful country, people are so giving and friendly...Kurt kinda crazy over the top with the helmet, bro, hahaha...I really enjoy how people embrace him where he goes, connects with people at at very human level ....
That’s awesome to meet some veterans from Vietnam. Wish we could hear some of that guys stories.
Today he is blessed with a big beautiful family.
Thank you Kurt for these videos.
You’re a Legend 🙏🏽
Yeah. Well many of Vietnam war stories are very tragic and not great memories. VIetnam is a very green lush country but that war was extremely horrific. I served in the military and some of the Vietnam War personnel still active duty told us some horrible stories that you wouldn't want to experience first hand. War is not entertainment.
@@Movieman1965 i hear you bro. You’re right, someone’s horrible and tragic experiences are not someone else’s entertainment.

Every time Kurt uploads im glued to the screen which rarely happens, this channel and shiey are the travel channels that i have to watch to start to end. Awesome commentary and beautiful places and people. Much love from finland! ❤
Can’t agree more with you about being proud of your country, my wife and I went to Switzerland and it was amazing to see how proud they’re of the history and the country they belonged too!
Great video Kurt - really enjoyed your Vietnam trip - strange place but such an experience.

It always takes me a second to realize that you are not being mean by saying “come on”, you are thanking them😂
I thought the same . It's an awkward phrase to use .
@@smyffmawzz for an english speaker, Yes. But it’s just a little funny hehe
he dont say "come on", he say "cám ơn". In Vietnamese it's mean "thank you"
@@TinNguyen-cv4qyYeah, as an English speaker it still kinda tricks my mind though.😂 It’s a very common phrase for us and would be rude in the context,so that’s probably why. Also thanks for showing the spelling that always interests me.😊

Kurt , your communicative skills are awesome even when you have very limited knowledge of Vietnamese language. You're effort is perceived as admirable but it's the warmness of your effort that endears you to the Vietnamese along with their welcoming kindness.

That guy still looking for his fathers body is shocking. I understand this very well. Because in Bosnia some of my people are still missing. ❤
I was 1a then they called off the draft 3weeks later 😅

Class video. ‘You should be proud of your heritage’ no truer words could be said
I understand the reason they are proud about their heritage and flag. Back in the day they defeated the strongest army in the world, through their ultimate sacrifices and resistance.
No... they did not defeat the US. Vietnam was more of a political loss for the US. Militarily, Vietnam was pretty one-sided.
Remember many escaped & many were against communism
@@shanedude91oh yes! The US got their asses kicked badly and were being decimated in spite of coward warfare such as Napalm and other chemical warfare attempts.

Both my dad and my father-in-law served tours of duty in Vietnam. My dad was drafted, and neither of them wanted to be there. They're both ashamed of the things they were compelled to do. And seeing how kind-hearted and friendly they are to a white man dressed in military garb is mind-blowing to me. They're such warm people. It really is a shame what we did to those people. And for what?
