    In the last part, the family said they ran out of pho (it was late at night so they were sitting down for dinner) and the rice was "com rang" which translates literally to fried rice haha. The reason the rice tasted so good was because the best fried rice is made from day old rice so it taste crispier than you'd get from fresh rice. Hi Kurt ! Welcome to VN . You were actually one of the rare Westerners who got the chance to attend that religious ceremony . That religion is an old traditional belief in VN , called Dao Tho Mâu ( the worshipping of the Mother Goddesses ) . The lady who was dancing on the stage is a spirit medium .Back at that moment she was possessed by the spirit of Ong Hoang Muoi ( the 10th Prince of Heaven ) , the deity who gives wealth and success in life to the attending persons . So keep the lucky money in the envelope that the other lady gave you . That unique to VN religion is recognized as an intangible cultural world heritage by UNESCO .

He was saying mostly that we as foreigners don't have the bongs and cane juice, I suppose that's just his was of being like this is some special stuff. • @Rookssssss
      @Rookssssss หลายเดือนก่อน +95

      Let me reclarify the situation a bit more because its been bugging me not being able to understand what he's trying to say haha. The guy is trying to slip in english/russian words, sometimes it ends up being a big ol' slur of a bunch of words or he's got a pre-notation of how English words are meant to be. For example alot of people like to say good as goot. My assumption is that my family has just been too lazy to actually pronounce the D, but it may as well be a pre-notation because I hear plenty from the country side people speaking in such a way. You can hear him say "capital" with a t sound at the end, same idea. Again though alot of it really is just him saying gibberish because viet people who just don't care speak in a sort of gestured and short sounds sorta way. Almost like saying hmm for every little thing. It's quirky nontheless and they try, can't fault em for not trying yknow.
      Another thing, he was pointing to the other side of the road and saying that there's a hotel with a 5 star casino.

      @@kameemyeu8623 I stumbled across Kurt’s channel while looking for those guys who explore abandoned mansions.
      I first saw Kurt sweaty, unable to really ride that motorbike on a back road in DR. He was wearing a helmet. So it was the beaches and scenery that initially caught my attention.
      Then I realized Kurt was putting out real content & substance so I went back & watched all his earlier uploads. Took me forever as I work 6 days a week.
      He’s easy on the eyes, but he’s real & he’s genuine. He doesn’t seem to meet a stranger. Even when folks in foreign lands piss him off, he isn’t an asshat to them & he basically walks off. I can admire that. He calls them on their BS when they’re trying to rip him off.
      I seriously feel he’s the only TH-camr out there that goes where he goes, is inquisitive about each place, & truly wants to understand their customs & their people. Not to mention that street food & local beer.

    My exwife is Vietnamese and I have a half Viet daughter. They’re very hardworking people. My mother in law fled the communists in the mid 80’s and got to America with 5 kids, no husband, and no English. She still works her ass off at 75 years old. All 4 of my brother in laws own nail salons and do very well. They’re very matriarchal and still all gather at mom’s house to cook together, etc.. My daughter is 10 and is bilingual in English and Vietnamese. My exwife and I have been divorced for years, but we get along great and coparent amicably, so I’m still around her family frequently and they treat me no different than when we were married. Just some loyal, humble, family oriented people.
    Ps- I can’t believe you wore that soldier getup in public lol
    Edit: I forgot to mention my former mother in law is Buddhist. In her living room there’s an entire wall that’s a shrine dedicated to her dead relatives. It has a Buddha statue, individual pictures of all of her relatives with electric candles that light them all the time, incense burners, all kinds of trinkets and mementos, and she puts out fresh fruit on plates for them every few days. It was cool watching her do her Buddhist thing as I’m always fascinated by other religions, traditions, etc.. The Vietnamese are also very ceremonial.

      But they didn't really win the war against the US. The US left. They had signed a peace treaty with the US and when Nixon left office they broke the treaty and invaded the South. Peak comedy tbh I haven’t laughed this hard at social misunderstandings while at the same time appreciated someone visiting Vietnam so much as Kurt made me felt watching this.
