As far as the truck goes, some new 2.2 beadlock wheels and tires, which are always upgraded on stock trucks anyways. And beefier links and ends and you're good to go.
I just ordered aluminum link and to replace the plastic ones. I think that will fix the problem. Plus I’m going to gear it down put it in the ESC in crawl mode and different wheels thanks sir for watching.
This is first generation Wendigo, I think Redcat will workout the bugs 👍

Fern Solo if they went ahead and put all the Wendigo components on an actual tube chassis (like the Wraith, Wraith 1.9, Bomber, Capra) then I would buy it. I’m just not to fond of buying a rock racer/bouncer that has a crawler frame with no cage to support it, I feel like that lexan body would have a hard time protecting the components compared to my Wraith 1.9 which obviously has a legitimate full tube chassis, atleast with the abuse that I put my racers through😂
As with most new models there are flaws that slip through the design process, and niggles that will need ironing out, it's great to see someone who will post videos like this and inform others on what they have found to be an issue with this model. keep it coming Bruva

Just got my Wendigo. Good info to know. I'll keep it in mind when I start bashing it. I have alot of Redcat vehicles and have never been really to disappointed with them. Mahalo and Aloha from the 808 state.
I just think they made it too fast because it’s really not a basher. And rock racing is pretty rough because you’re going to head on into rocks racing fast.
Issues I've had after owning it a week. Broke center shaft, lost set pin in rear driveshaft, tires came unglued and then the esc stopped working. Fixed all those problems, added better sway bars and installed mambax 6s speed control and now it's kind of reliable and pretty fun to bash. Thanks for the videos.
That sounds pretty awesome. Unfortunately mine still sitting on the shelf I’ve kind of lost interest for it lol
Thanks for the information I wonder if the looks of the wendigo are encouraging drivers towards bashing rather than trail or crawling ?The Wendigo appeals to me as a scale ultra 4 truck ,that could crawl /and blast over desert ,but like full size trucks there must surely be compromises, they can't crawl as good as a dedicated rock crawler ,or rip the desert as fast as a trophy truck,but I'm sure there's a place for an rc like this.I'm really interested in finding out what wheels will fit as my first thought would be some metal 1.9s but that doesn't look feasable.My thumbs up was for your video and the truck ,a lot of us rely on your advice and experiments before we spend our cash and I for one am gratefully.

Your videos are good and straight forward and without that people would be buying or using machines that aren't up to a great standard without knowing any weak points, and you showing them lets them make an informed decision on whether they would want to make the purchase, and if they do now they know what to expect to work on! I have the same truck and never had a tie rod issue and i run it super hard. Then best upgrade is going to aluminum beadlock rims
I dunno. Think the truck keeps asking me to do stupid things with it. Just a blip of the throttle and whamo! Yes, I've already got parts on order. The truck put a smile on my face. I'm happy.

had mine for months.. n never busted any of the links.. but after replacing the front shock tower's.. as they absolutely should come with aluminum... but its definitely my most capable rig did replace the brushless system n the marksman pinion .. will be getting an axe brushless crawler system for it and a Wendigo kit to build as a solid axle monster truck...!!!!
My friends wendigo did the same thing on the first run we thought it was because we ran in to each other. But after watching a few videos. It's a definately Redcat issue 😎👍😁

seems like everyone filming the Wendigo has this linkage problem. As soon as it roll, which it definitely will because 1. 3S capable & high KV motor, 2. high cg, 3. grippy tires, 4. locked front diff.

I like the body. I've found the painted body, roof and stickers, but I didn't see it with cage.
Picked one up today. Ran through 2 2s 5000mah batteries with no issues. I noticed you said put it crawler mode , I attempted that today with this esc you will flip it a lot from braking when giving throttle. Also this esc will not crawl at all , It cogs pretty bad at low speeds and if you try to crawl with it mine will cut the throttle for some reason. Personally I am gonna pick up a hobbywing 1080 and throw a brushed traxxas 21 turn in it and gear it down. I will probally throw the wendigos brushless esc and motor into my daughter's ecx amp, should make that truck really fly .
Forgot to mention , I agree it should of come with a explored view for parts as it seems it was rushed , I am sure there will one be made available. Luckily a good portion of the truck is the same as a gen 8. Overall I am happy with the truck , I purchased it for a good chassis to build a mud truck off of and I really think it's going to be a good platform for it .
Yeah I noticed that I’m thinking about putting an Axe system in it still not sure but I did have to takeoff to drag break because you’re right it flips bad LOL
However I change the pinion from 17 to 13
@@triplexrcgarage1499 does it cut throttle when crawling with the 13 tooth? Wish I could afford to throw an axe system in it as this is exactly what it needs.
Edit... So I put a hobbywing 1080 in it and a 21 turn motor with stock pinion and the motor just gets way to hot on 2s, so definitely not going to work on stock gearing. I have a 13t pinion as well , wondering if this would help.
I didn't have any of the issues you had, but I did blow the rear ring and pinion, with none in stock to fix it yet.

exact same thing with first battery i ran in my wendigo.... broke both steering links, unglued all 4 tires inside and outside and, snaped the diff pinion at the drive shaft pin point.... idk if it was just using 3s but i did all that before i killed a 2200mah 3s lipo
I like the idea of this truck, but after seeing so many rtr issues I had to get the builders kit Raw 500 Axe 550 2700kv and Flysky gt5 for electrics I will put it together next week and see how it goes.
I could see the wendigo really shining with just ryft axles tbh. 4 link it and get it a bit wider

Always thought this would happen with this truck, as Axial had problems with anything quick throwing tyres also with glue and also plastic beadlocks.
I think that going by way of making it more of a crawler would be perfect.
Look forward to your update video on modifications, thanks for the information you've shared.
I think there will be some sick rigs created off of this platform and aftermarket will arrive eventually.

I’m building this kit now. I want it as a faster crawler. Think I’m doing a brushed motor and firma 40. I think the motor is to fast in the wendigo. Rock racer or not the kv is just high.

I haven't had any problems with mine yet you were taking it off some high jumps lol I dont know if it was meant to handle that I'm going to go beat mine some more and see if this happens to me good video I did enjoy it I know what to look out for✌🏻😀👊💯

Brother i love your channel u have a great personality problem is not with you exactly but your taking a 325.00 car that you would really need to upgrade 70% of the vehicle with higher grade components and your jumping off of hills that could damage a stock x maxx if it landed wrong and the tire coming loose is either your not prepping the area clean enough b4 gluing or your glue sux i use gorilla sup glu and it holds everytime

adding a thumbs up. just got a wendigo after a couple decades out of the game., tires came off the beads rather quickly (gorilla glue solved that little wrinkle) my question is, how do i lower the center of gravity? this thing flips constantly....not digging being showed up by my friends frog. otherwise, this thing is a monster! (also, since brushless is new to me, how fast of a motor do you think i can run without just being stupid?
I just lowered my shocks and put a 2S battery in it but it still flips over😢 so I added weights inside of my tires that seems to help a little bit.
Love your videos, at least you’re honest review will help people to choose to buy it or not.

My Wendigo had the same issues as yours, have Beed locks and 2 stage foam coming and where are you getting the upgrade front links for the steering that keeps breaking?

I like the look of the truck, but think I'd rather have a wraith and add brushless... do love the AXE GEN8!!
I have it running better now. I dial down the ESC changed opinion from 17 to a 13 and changed out the steering leak ball swivels.
Personally, after watching this I realize that this truck can be better with some adjustments.

Sucks it’s breaking. The key is, is red cat listening and will they fix the issues. If they do then they are doing what a good company should do. Will have to see.

Hey just letting you know I ordered some aluminum swivels replacements for the link arms that way I won’t have that problem again I just think they put too big a tire for that rig
I have the same truck and I had the same issue when I first Took it out for the first time It did the same thing yours did
Can you swap the axles out of the windgo on to the gen8???

Some weak points that seem pretty easy to correct. Though in all fairness to Redcat, those were some pretty gnarly jumps.
Redcat seemed to have been on a roll lately. This would appear to be a hiccup for them if these quality issues effect a large portion of these trucks.
After thinking about it I don’t think we’re supposed be jumping it hard like I’ve been doing because in reality the links and the steering arm and the chassis we’re designed for Rock Crawling not bashing LOL however I’m going to be changing mine more towards crawling and trailing and more likely mud running
Can we compare it to the wraith 2.2? Like a 2020 wraith? That car is the king of mods, almost no one drives it stock, and people are ok with it. I just ordered a Wraith 2.2 spawn kit a few days ago, and although the car didn‘t arrive yet I already have a ton of upgrades in mind, more than doubling the initial price. Think about the Wendigo with a sensored combo (castle mamba x crawler edition), metal links, battery in the front, lower center of gravity, better wheels,... I know a new car should be good right out of the box. The poor quality is really unfortunate. But maybe in a few months people start loving this car not because of what it was, but because of what it can be. ;-)

You get a the thumbs up from me, seems like every rig has issues, was looking at the axial bomber 2.0 but even on a high end expensive rig it has really stupid flaws like the rear lower chassis links that are from the yeti bending after a few runs, why use a component that has well known issues?
I don’t get these companies so I’m at a loss as what to go for, a rock racer is what I want but it’s such a minefield, thanks for your honest views, I may end up going a full custom rig at this rate🙄
I’m to the point with some of the companies to just take it out of the box run it and fix it and make it my own.

I've found that Traxxas wheels have the wrong offset to fit on any Axial axles without binding,especially as far as the steering is concerned. I wonder if it's the same with the Redcat's too?

No weights it is a rock racer not crawler maybe metal parts over some of the plastic ones
so far, i haven't figured out what type or RC'ing this Wendingo is for? seems to be too fast to be a crawler and too brittle to be a basher. pretty sure it's not a short course racer but I could be wrong. definitely not a "no prep" racer. You're videos are super informative. I really appreciate the lack of fan boy for any brand. You give it straight ... the good and the bad.

My Favorite is the Traxxas TRX4 but Gen8 is good so is Axial
I got the builder's kit and it is still mod I cannot fix it I don't know what is that it's just lousy and that's my take on the gym or the windigo

Before you get rid of it, put the body on the Gen 8 to see if it fits. :)
I’m not getting rid of it. I’m putting aluminum link ends and changing out the tires and wheels gearing it down and put the ESC in crawl mode.

I’d prefer this truck was brushed and nearer to the price of the gen 8. It’s a bit too fast for what I want and it would be a shame to buy this just to put in a different motor and esc. That’s my 0.02 worth
That’s why I’m gearing mine down and changing the the motor and ESC maybe a HOBBYWING AXE 2300kv motor and ESC.turn it into a class 3 Crawler.

I would say buy the Gen 8 roller, wait for ebay junkyards to offer axles and metal link everything.
So let me geuss you jump it and it lands as a solid axle rig that hard and breaks a tire rod end a tire comes unglued and you bash the name for jumping it extremely hard. Go jump a trx-4 in the same spot and see if it will break cuz it will.
I'm thinking 3s will balloon the tires causing them to come unglued not the jumping. I have yet to break anything on mine yet but I have lost the front drive shaft pin today even after tightening before going out. So if you do get this truck be sure to locktite them. As far as the steering setup on it , could of been done better imo but mine is holding up so far.
Actually if you look a couple videos back I jumped a GEN 8 and it did not break. And I have jumped my TRX4 and TRX6 And they didn’t break. The tires I’m not worried about because they’re glued on and it high speeds they come on glued. However the link ends kept failing and they put a basher motor and ESC in a crawler style rig. So I’ve done some adjustments to this truck and slowed it down but I think I’m still going to have to change the motor and ESC it gets way too jumpy and way too fast for this platform. That is what I was trying to show. I do love my redcats. I think redcat has come along way and I think they’re doing a good job I just think some of the parts are cheap and could be better. But I do really appreciate your comments and I really appreciate you watching. I was treating it like a basher because it ran like one LOL and just so you know I buy my rigs they’re not given to me. And it does hurt me to see how I scratched up my body. But that’s OK it’s called character scratchers LOL thanks again and be safe out there😷👍🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻

Idk Anthony, you respect do all these cool mods , than you put weindigo through the ringer, I bought gen8 my lhs saying its junk I should get trx but I wasn't planning beating on it I did break pin in axle but i was beating on it

I bought a couple of the short course trucks about six years ago. All crap and broke in the first day. It's not a joke. I will never buy RedCat ever in my life again. RedCat has shit for plastic not joking. I spent $600 on short course trucks no more will I go back noatter what they come out with until they change plastic company. Red cat sucks and I'll always say it.

I actually did. I have so many TRX4’s and I hate shelf queens. And I had it as a shelf queen it was perfect. And a buddy of mine fell in love with it and bought it from me. That’s how i got the TRX6 6x6.
The look and size is great, but the rtr motor is too strong for the steering /handling.... Rather just send a granite or maxx over those jumps
I think a Redcat Camo X4 would be better than this for jumping and bashing. It's also $90 cheaper.
Now with that said I'd LOVE to see this in a kit. I'm still convincing myself this would be an awesome 2.2 crawler with a brushed system in it. Or an AXE or something.

If you want a good indestructible Rockcrawler get the TRX4 SPORT And pick up a good 25 KG servo.

Redcat had got to, GOT TO!! improve the plastics to a Traxxas type durability. My only beef. My Gen8 has been great but I could not imagine bolting on a high speed brushless system and 2.2’s and bashing it. Exactly what happened to you and WORSE would happen.

No I buy. I wish lol. I sold my Element with the gladiator body to buy this one.
You clearly demonstrated that the failures are due to addition of more power, speed and torque stressing plastic parts not upgraded to meet the demand. Of course in your case, maybe they didn't intend for the vehicle to absorb those types of jumps which clearly the GEN7/8 cannot do stock.
So, is it a design issue or is it a use issue? I am not a mechanical or materials engineer so I can't make that call. Kinda like a Monday morning quarterback reviewing the results of the previousweekend's game I suppose. BTW, all reviewers of RC's - and everything else for that matter, do this same thing. Maybe it's a good formula to get more engagement. I gave you a thumbs up for it . . . ;-)

I think everyone become so spoiled these days they treat trucks like they are x maxxes and if something breaks people throw a fit. I like to take it to the max and jump off ledges but I have an x-max I have arrmas for that. It wasn’t that many years tiny trucks had no power and now they throw huge power and people do things completely out of scale or reason with theses things and that’s great but it’s not the companies fault that we all go to the max. Tires coming unglued it happens. You said you reglued them and they still came off. Well if they didn’t do a good job and you didn’t do a good job. Well hell what’s the answer?
You are so right! Way to much power for the parts on the rig if they would tune it down and recommend a 2cell and geared it down from 17 pinion to a 13 pinion like I did. used beed-locks not glue on’s it would have been great. I love my wendingo I bash it at a skate park back flips np/// only thing is yes the end links are weak butt all new stock trucks need upgrades you know this that's a part of rc life when you bash you break stuff all rc have weak points until you upgrade
After thinking about it I don’t think we’re supposed be jumping it hard like I’ve been doing because in reality the links and the steering arm and the chassis we’re designed for Rock Crawling not bashing LOL however I’m going to be changing mine more towards crawling and trailing and more likely mud running

I like your videos and I give you thumbs up for your content but I am with you for this Redcat. After the Gen8 they needed to do better than they did. This feels like a step backwards for Redcat and we know that they can do better.

Basically every brand uses plastic rod ends i like to grab bulk aluminum rod ends from eBay you can get like 20 aluminium rod ends for like 10 to 20 bucks from China and ya it's from China but do is everything else they work dinner for me never broken one. Also ya i passed on this truck that's what happens with crawlers on brushless power i dunno what they were thinking making this a "rock bouncer" what do you think man? Should this be a crawler? Would it better as a crawler? Or do you like the way it is as kinda fast? Just wondering thanks bro 👍👍
Yeah I’m gearing it down and put it in crawl mode. Hopefully that will fit it. I think a class III Crawler would be great. Or a mud truck. But thanks for letting me know about the rod ends I’m going to get some of those.🤜🏻🤛🏻👍🏻

@@triplexrcgarage1499 also make sure iff that happens to use reverse thread ends on one side to specify in your order i did that once by mistake i ordered a bunch for my traxxas i think and half of the traxxas rod ends were reverse thread

subbed ya ....i think most of us want to give redcat another chance the e10 was my first hobby grade rc i learned a lot from it being new like i am but for 500 dollars i expect sumn that is going to last a few weeks at least before it starts falling apart redcat needs to slow down on the speed aspect and start focusing on durability imo
