Yeah , I saw him around 2009 with the Death Weather in a park in NYC . He was on drums... And even from that band position he made it a cool experience indeed.
I finally saw him live this tour in Grand Rapids. The best show I have ever seen, and I've seen McCartney, Clapton, BB, Buddy Guy, Foo Fighters, and all that.
I only saw The White Stripes in their second to last show at Sloss Furnace in Alabama. I've seen The Dead Weather both tours here, and saw Jack's first solo tour once, and his second one I think I got to three shows (2014-2015). Last one I went to was the Nashville one where the Raconteurs came out as well as Loretta Lynn. I saw the Raconteurs first in 2008, the last Ryman show that Jack sat down half the time because he just slipped a disc in his back. Took 11 years before I got to see them twice in 2019 😀
@Lance, that’s a hell of a bucket list! During the intermission Jack shows a clip of him doing a 100 push ups. I can’t crack 50, but I am a year older....
Live performance with this guy is electric, always has been. Even beyond the music you’ve got to appreciate how he operates. Very interesting person, out doing good in the world.
I had spent many months installing the boiler, chiller, steam lines , cooling tower , presses etc. I have to make it back. My part of the job was done before the pressing started..! I have to make it back and watch everyone’s hard work produce records ..! It is awesome to point out every time I drive by that I was a part of such a historical project…!
Mick Jagger on radio interview when asked what group on the horizon impressed him and right away he said "The White Stripes". That was the first I had heard of them back in maybe 1999. I have been hooked ever since!
Can we all just take a moment to recognize how great of an interviewer Zane Lowe is? He always listens the artists he interviews and responds to them with a great sincerity. I’m always happy to see his face with one of my favorite artist. This is how interviews should be done.
The thing I love about Jack is that he's so passionate about the craft but he's not snobby or "hipster" about it. Pretty eye opening hearing how that changed when he started his own label and how being on both sides has influenced how he runs things. The pure joy happening when they pressed the record was infectious!
Proud? ? Detroit: Black or African American: 77.06% White: 14.39%. What percentage of the employees you just saw on the floor at Third Man Detroit were black?
White stripes were the first band I saw live when I was about 13. Seeing him play guitar and keyboard at the same time blew my mind. Fast forward, I’m 30 years old at my buddies bachelor party in Nashville and got a chance to see his record store. It truly is the best record store I’ve ever been to. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re at one of the locations. Never seen an interview before of jack white. I have so much respect for him and his passion for creating. Even though over the years my taste in music has changed, this is so inspiring. I wish more artists approached projects like he does.
Great interview - It always feels like Zane is on the edge of 'pretentiousness', but his enthusiasm and excitement wins through. One of the best, as is Jack White.
Absolutely love this. Saved and downloaded for the future. I archive every JW interview I can. Inspiration that saved me from music despair almost twenty years ago now.
This was such a fantastic interview. Zane has such a personable way about him that always makes the artist feel comfortable and happy to share. Always so excited to get a further peak into Jack's world. That man is such an inspiration.
Jackie boy you've made pick up a guitar again after almost 30 yrs I'm 58yrs young I'm playing again jamming with mates I've not seen for 20yrs got new Guild electric love playing Jack's stuff plus Raconteurs, stripes too god I really love life now, more i have for years, thanks Jack you send the hairs on my neck stand on end your sound is electric lad, from NE Wales in the U.K. Rock on.... thanks for inspiration
Love what Jacks got going on, always have.........love artists who are constantly ascending & crafting their art to higher & unique levels, artists who never settled because they signed a major record deal & now they can coast through life.
I’m so happy he gave Pearl Jam a shoutout for keeping vinyl alive in the 90’s. They’re the reason I started collecting as a teenager. It’s cool that he was the one to break the vinyl sales record that they set with Vitalogy. Jack is as cool as they come.
Yep, it’s super awesome to be born and raised in Detroit(proper). Humble, beautiful memories remembered. To keep positive and adventurous, never scared. I❤️Detroit. The melting pot. Great footage. Have great experiences…, enjoy
Well, I'm half way through this and it is already just amazing and worthwhile - here's to the love of music and to one great cat who really has given himself to it - respect.
Jack's excitement is palpable. He has had the Third Man project going for years, but still looks giddy pulling vinyl off the press. That's how you know you love what you do. Truly inspiring on many levels.
Love the new album. It's got an edge to it that makes me feel like rock isn't dead. It's everything it should be. Mr. White I've listened to you since I was a kid and you are one of the reasons I picked up a guitar. Can't wait to see what you come up with in the next 20 years.
Hats off Zane! (i think i spell it wright i'rm from spain). What a cossie way to dig deeper and, at the same time, stay true and honest on this interview. Jack hasn't reach his peak yet and your interview was way too good to push him further. TY MAN.
Love Jacks music and I love that he mentioned Eric B. & Rakim. I was listening to them from the beginning. They were so different at the time nobody was rapping like them.
You really are my musical hero. You are innovative, ground breaking and uncompromisingly creative. You are an inspiration to me who is a musician who has all but given up on my dream.
This is so dope what Jack has done. Not surprised that he did this. Awesome way to invest in himself and others as an artist. It's super original and organically him. Looking forward to his next album. Read about the ideas he had coming into this next one and it's been a long time since Lazaretto when I last heard his work.
I remember thinking him when he first went solo and I thought.. this is..strange. Now i listen to everything over and over again and I appreciate so much his creation and adaptation. Man is truly a genius. I can relate to his style and creativity in the studio. Love him so much.
His new album is really wild and ya know I don’t even know if it’s perfect but damn I’m so happy it exists. He’s making the most forward thinking rock music right now.
Loved the interview. It’s truly amazing to see Jack White being so passionate about the things he loves. You can see how genuinely happy he is to show us what he created as an artist for other musicians and people enjoying music in general.
My life has fallen apart such that I have to live with my parents. When I lived with my brother, because we were both musicians, I knew I could bang on the piano, the drums or any one of the guitars and it would be expected and welcome. I've played in front of hundreds of people and yet can't bring myself to be half as comfortable around my parents. They've never complained but I've never really given them a reason to. I'm suffocating as an artist and losing the belief in myself. Jack is one of my heroes so I'm hanging on everything he says and I'm only a few minutes in. Sometimes doing what you love is scary because you're the only one who thinks it's worth it, even when you're good at it.
Johnny Cash of his generation. Dedicated to the truth of the music, and making it available to all music artists. FREAKING AWESOME! And I love vinyl coming back again. And now I can afford a record player that doesn’t shock me like when I was a kid in the 70’s…😂. Back then records were like your friends, aging over time, really love them and the pics and jacket liners. I still have some, and can’t wait to get some JW’s to add to my JC records.
Thank you for coming to Detroit and not doing the interview in another location. Detroit always gets skipped over and is always in the shadows of LA, NYC, Miami, Austin, Seattle, etc. We have much more character and grit! Thank you Jack for putting the spotlight on us!
Whoa! I never have any cool stories.. but today is different… I was on a cross country motorcycle trip in 2017. I stopped in Memphis on my way to Florida. I went out of my way, because I always wanted to see Graceland. Anyway, I was visiting a music shop (bunch’s old/used guitars, instruments, etc..) and I noticed Jack white standing next to me.. the place was empty, except for employees … anyway, we struck up a conversation about guitar pick ups and string gauges. I wanted to go all fan boy on him, but our conversation about pick-ups (specifically Les Paul) seemed to keep us both excited . There was a moment when I cut the converse off, because I felt like I was keeping him from something. He said , “hey, gear to meet you.. thanks”. Ha! Thanks? To me?!! Man.. I still relish that memory. Poor guy use stuck living the pseudo rock star lifestyle .. but deep down, maybe he just missed talking shop about old guitars without all the nonsense and pretense of being a public figure. Before I left he wrote down a couple vintage guitar shops he recommended I visit. That’s my story.. not very exciting .. but my story nonetheless
Dude that’s awesome!!! That must have been trippy looking over and seeing him, I would have flipped out for sure, like finding a four leaf clover or “golden ticket” haha lucky dude!
Awesome! Jack White is incredible. Total genius, legend and a huge inspiration to many. Love how he's fought to keep vinyl and analog in general alive. Would be a dream to visit 3rd man records.

Incredible interview and really inspiring. Jack is just a cool and interesting person, artist, etc. I could listen to him talk about his passions for hours!
You have to see Jack White live. It’s a power house show. He’s completely devoted to his craft and its a cool experience
Yeah , I saw him around 2009 with the Death Weather in a park in NYC .
He was on drums... And even from that band position he made it a cool experience indeed.
That awesome, smaller venues for my taste beat the arena shows, the sound is better and you can see the musicians
I finally saw him live this tour in Grand Rapids. The best show I have ever seen, and I've seen McCartney, Clapton, BB, Buddy Guy, Foo Fighters, and all that.

He’s really got his shit together. A true renegade in music.
My Grandma used to make sandwiches for his family in Detroit. He's not a mayo guy is all i'll say.
@@bugmanuk I’ve been to the Nashville Third man records. It was super cool
never seen jack white enjoy an interview this much since It Might Get Loud and its great to see, and I'm glad to see he's back.
Same. He was so into this, it was cool.
Seems he used to be pretty uptight about his image and whatnot. Now it seems he’s letting go of things and enjoying himself a lot
It’s because he had a little bump and its kinda scripted
Because he’s on home turf in Detroit. Casa corridor

I had no idea he was from Detroit. I go there a lot. I'm in the bus. Wonder where that farm house was that he turned up in. Dude is amazing.
Being from Detroit myself, born and raised, this warms my heart and gives me feelings.
The thing I love about Jack is that he's so passionate about the craft but he's not snobby or "hipster" about it. I'm pretty sure Jack was the proto hipster.
Assume I was blackout drunk when I wrote this.
…jack is the ultimate hipster lol

You should upload them on here.
Couldn’t agree more. Jack is so inspirational as a force of nature in the music industry as we know it. We could really use more people like him :)
I've tried to watch every interview of him too. Wow that's a great archive!! And here I thought I was his biggest fan for the past 20 years, 😉.

Amazing! Love to see musicians like Jack White, Dan Auerbach and more helping the music community and not eating up by star narcissism
I remember when he started out. The world was in a good place. His first album reminds me of the good old days.

Interesting, this is the most open and talkative I've seen him in an interview. Really cool to hear him just talk about his craft and passion.
His interior design is off the hook and very captivating well played dawg
Jack white is so talented
Thank you Jack for putting your art in the world! I hope you know how much it helps people.
