This is still my favorite PS2 game. Never stops feeling memorable, that battle in the sky with the giant robot are some of the greatest moments in videogames I remember playing. Contra is the name for burning soul fighters and unbelievable skills.

I miss playing this game and I wish I had a pc strong enough to run it! With all the compilations out there, you'd think Konami would include Shin Contra Shattered Soldier sigh...Mr. Heli-Robo?! That's not that Gobot/Machine Robo anime transformering robot from the 1983 toy line huh?! I have the red and white western version but I know that there's a really rare dark blue, white and grey variation of that toy though?!! That's awesome that the producers used a Gobots or rather a Machine Robo-inspired toy Robo-Heli mod for their boss line!
this is like an arcade game i played, it's gameplay graphics and character designs are retro and it keeps going on keeping the player on edge for what comes next. (Sobbing) I miss those good old days.🥺😢
I will say, they could have done some texture changes for burn damage, like say when you hit larger enemies like the ceiling creature you send into the meat processor, when the player uses the flamethrower on it, rather than it being treated like a projectile impact. Same with the fish with the human face, or the moto-snail, (though I think snails are cute) However, it was 2002. That first creature in the meat processing plant... That totally should have been barbecued.
@@SolCresta3405 Maybe to you but Neo was not great in my eyes cause the Plot didn’t make sense & couldn’t beat the Final Boss in the game even If I used GameShark back in the day. Also too much 3d on Neo. Not a fan of 3d stuff.
@@xwf1000v3 That doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. The 3D is handled much better when compared to Legacy of War, Contra Adventure, and Rogue Corps. And the final boss isn’t that hard. You gotta rely on memorization.
Not bad attempt.... but still looks like not finished beta. And the animation of main character is SO CRAPPY, "out of the box", raw. deafult 3D animation without tweeking. This game appearently had no proffesional, talented art director. Many good ideas glued together into ugly turd... It should be done the way Strider on PSX was done. 3D great enviro and beautiful 2d sprites - piece of art it was...
... god.... again: THE CURSE OF CUTSCENES!! I miss the times when games were for playing, not for reading never ending bullshit movies and crappy dialogues...
@@sonarabit If only games warned me that they have cutscenes, and sometimes even one can not skip them. Or there are so many of them you just keep skipping and skipping instead of playing.
Also games didn't not have cutscenes for a very short period if you hate story in games then you must not like games all together. A game can have a story. It doesn't need it but it can have an amazing plot if it wants too. It's just a medium to tell plots. Gameplay is first but getting angry at a plot is dumb because like I said you can ignore it.
@@sonarabit How can I ignore cutscenes thrown in my face again and again? And importance of plot in games is just your OPINION. In my opinion story in an action game is as important as story in adult movie. I would hate cut scenes in old arcades, my god! Cutscenes added to new editions of pacman, commando, green beret.... loads of BS instead of playing happily and destroying enemies!!!

I hate the 3-weapon system it makes the game too routine. With pick-up weapons you get more variety and you lose them if you die.
Reminds me of fighting the Goliath in Nier Automata lol,I'm sure they were atleast slightly inspired by this.
I like how they included the flying winnebago from Spaceballs.

Waaaaaaaaaay better than Contra:Legacy of War and C the Contra Adventure in a huge reveal.
Thrilling successor to Super Contra. Masterpiece. Akira Yamaoka made a beautiful soundtrack.

Oh my word, I skipped around randomly and EVERY SINGLE scene I saw was either a boss/mini boss, or an auto scroller. That doesn’t bode well.

They learned the lesson and boy did Neo Contra look bright and detailed. Still this game's graphics are damn good IMO.
