"Presets" i.e clips containing audio creates Projects folder because your "Ableton Presets" folder is outside of your User Library. If it was inside, Live wouldn't have to create Projects when your clip contains audio; it would automatically place the audio files in the corresponding User Library folder (Samples>recorded> either processed/cropped etc...). For this you need to check the "Collect files on export" preferences (imo the "Ask" option is the best one). Or you can also first move the audio files to e.g a dedicated folder of yours (inside the User Library), and then save your clip. No more Projects folder to expand!
this is the sort of content people need but don't know they do! ( : you can go years and years using ableton and not know this! well done. real meaty stuff. keep it coming
So cool. Ableton is the single greatest inspirational DAW while being the Easiest & funnest, (is that a word?) I have ever used. And I've used all of them. When I got my Push 3 , It has been off the charts how much fun it is. Thanks for showing this, cuz now ableton just got even easier
Hopefully everyone also knows that you can open any project as a folder (container), expand down to the individual clips and freely drag any of them out into your currently opened project. Pretty crazy for remixes or just building new tracks from unfinished parts you liked, but had yet to further develop.
This is the foolproof way to rebuild a broken set that won't load. Go to the last working project and drag each track in one by one. Once it breaks, you found the culprit!

This video is so awesome that I can call it the day! I’m done! The previewing clips with third party plugins is indeed insane! Is that only true on Live 12, or it also works the same way on Live 11? Also, when you save clips for previewing purposes, it means you must load the full clip later, even if you only wanna use the preset and not the clip sequence itself, correct? Thanks for the amazing video!
Yo this is legendary. Is this a live 12 function or have we always had it?? Also... I would love to see how those Papadosio ableton projects look! Fuckin love your band mate. Wish you were at Hula this year!
great ideas for improving workflow here. Thank You. Wondering now if, over time, the Ableton preset clip folder you created becomes HUGE could you work around this by using the Ableton functionality to tag categories to search for your clip designed sounds/samples/instrument rack/3rdParty clips faster? Would love one of your tutorials on this topic in the future to expand on your suggestions here...Thank You
Was thinking the same - saving/linking the preview clips close to their presets rather than in their own folder. Brings up another related longstanding wish: a preview of a working project, saved with the project. Just a 20s bounce would be enough, right? Same for default sets.
On the topic of the sample based presets creating project folders... I recently picked up a drum sample pack from ThatSound which includes drumrack presets. The sample library does not have project folders and lives on my external drive, but yet I am able to drag the presets into a midi file and it references all the samples from the external drive. However, whenever I create my own presets using samples, it will either copy all the samples to my user folder, or create a project folder with an imported samples sub folder. I'm trying to find a way to copy ThatSound's method because I don't want tons of duplicated samples on my hard drives every time i make a sample based preset (drumrack, sampler, etc.) with samples that already live somewhere else. any ideas?
Don't know what I got wrong but I can preview my .ALC files just fine in the browser, but when I drag into a session it just drags the midi and not the plugins :(

I don't think any of that is new, is it? Live - and Bitwig or S1, for that matter - could always save a clip to the user library, which would preserve events (midi or audio), devices and clip modulation, etc.
No def not new BUT, the ability to save 3rd party plugin chains as clips and load them into the browser IS new to me at least and loads of folks apparently.
Oh Artur, always spreading the good vibes. By the way, in Bitwig, this function is inferior. It does not change the tempo of the preview file, as Ableton does.
@@JulianSchmauch Then it's great I use Live and not Bitwig, eh? :) I don't care about "vibes". I only asked because I thought there's something new that I missed (the thumbnail to the video suggested a new drop down menu option).
I think if I recall from prev yrs w Live, all clips saved would end up in their own project folder, or the folder of the current project and so all clips would be physically scattered amongst various projects. I used to have a "My Custom Clips" project file. but it seems with the evolution of the browser they have begun filing things differently, esp now that we have places "folders" that can be outside the Use Lib. Justxa theory, but this seems like an improvement I did not know about, as far as how the clips stay in this one folder yet retain the previewing facility.

It is VERY rare for someone to teach me something new about Ableton. This is brand new to me, and very valuable; thank you.

bro is mapping the frontier of Live, god bless, next level stuff!!
Thanks Dude. Never knew this was possible and always wished I could do this. You just made my day!
So incredibly useful, no more deaf searching inside the presets!

Just wild. Thank you so much for sharing!!
Very helpful Seed To Stage, thank you :)
Realy awesome 👌 tk you Antony
If you had saved the whistler preset first to the use library, then the sample will be connected to the clip even if it’s not in that folder.
This is AMAZING! 🤯
Awesome! ❤
You’re the man 🔥🔥

Holy sh*t! I gotta save some stuff from old projects
Is there a tutorial / download available for the drum rack? is it just a bunch of samples and a MIDI PITCH device?

The question is--- can you save presets with automation? Or does it only work with clips with internal modulation?
Hey how about some ebosuite tuts :P
Don't know what I got wrong but I can preview my .ALC files just fine in the browser, but when I drag into a session it just drags the midi and not the plugins :(
