    I never get tired of flying over the Rockies! Did you notice how the runway moves faster at higher density altitude and much slower at sea level? Whenever I travel to a lower altitude airport everything happens much slowly!

      Yes, it is quite noticeable! And I am glad I have the stronger engine now for take-off and climb performance.

    Nice Martin! I'm assuming that the girls were looking out the windows on this trip, and not sleeping. : ) And good choice on flying VFR. I wasn't familiar with the EGT method for leaning the mixture (I always use the RPM method for leaning at high altitude airports), but then, I haven't flown any Constant Speed Prop planes yet! (Hopefully soon!) Thanks for that info, and I noticed that with Constant Speed Props, you can use either. Do you find the EGT method to be better/easier/more accurate?

    Good job using major drainage systems for return trip through Colorado. The drainage systems become decreasing V ridge valley ridge systems on up to the high passes. In 65-150 hp airplanes we have to make use of thermal and orographic lift to safely make the passes. Over the mountains doesn't work for us because we can't get that high and if we did we would exhaust our gas at 20-30 mph into strong prevailing westerlies going west toward the next airport. Thanks for the great video.

    Hi Martin. Well done! I live in Wyoming KEAN and often fly a route similar to the one you flew to visit my parents in Glenwood Springs, KGWS. I fly a C35. Your videos served a big part in inspiring me to do my instrument rating which I finished a year ago. Next time you come west look me up. I'd love to check off KDEN with you. Thanks for the amazing videos.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats on the instrument rating, and I am happy I helped push you towards that goal. It makes me happy when I can inspire people to learn to fly, restart after a break from flying, or make some new learning goals for themselves.
      All the best for 2021!

    Hello Martin, Merry Christmas & great video! ,
    Hey Martin we both have Lynx Transponder w/Avidyne IFD & both use FF. Does your iPad running Foreflight while using the IFD WiFi do you get any messages like “Avidyne IFD Disconnected”? I’m struggling w my IPad using FF and getting the IFD Disconnect message lots and can’t figure out how to fix this to stop getting those disconnect messages and really could use your advice please. If you’re not getting the IFD disconnected messages while you’re using FF on your iPad I’d love to learn what you’re doing right. Please let me know and keep up the great flights and videos, awesome job🎅🎅🎁🎁🎄🎄

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Kev, I have seen this disconnect message occasionally on my iPad, but then it seems like it reconnects immediately because there is never any missing data on the iPad. I did install the latest IFD software in my panel in the fall, and I have not seen the message since then (though I haven't flown a lot since then either - so I can't say if that was remedy or just coincidence). I think of it as a nuisance message and hope ForeFlight and Avidyne will resolve it (if they haven't yet).
      Best regards,
      Martin

    Hey Martin, love your videos!
    Is there a reason why you didn't use Foreflight to open your VFR flight plan?

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, David. As for opening the VFR flight plan, it didn't work in ForeFlight at the time. I am told that's because ForeFlight will not use a cellular data connection once it is connect to a panel-mount device (like my Avidyne IFD). I have yet to try this to validate, but it makes sense. Something I wish they will change in ForeFlight in the future.
      Regards,
      Martin

    Thanks Martin. I enjoyed watching some of the areas I am familiar with on the ground from a planes view. My son attended a small college in Glenwood Spring and we camp in the Kremling area. Later this summer there were very bad forest fires in the area from Kremling towards Cheyenne WY. Much of this flight would look different now. Merry Christmas to your family and safe travels- come on vaccinations.

    Stunning views, Martin - certainly a fitting finale to a great mountain trip. That flatlands may not have the same aesthetic beauty of the mountains, but they do have their own unique beauty, so even the last leg of your trip would have been pleasing to me! Thanks for sharing as always!

      Thanks, Keith. I agree with what you wrote about the flatlands. It's more of an acquired taste, I guess, but I sometimes find myself admiring its beauty from the air. It's just much, much harder to convey that beauty in a video or picture.

    Loved the video. Ironically every time I drive my truck and RV across the Midwest no matter what direction I’m going it’s always a headwind even going east and then north back to Minnesota.

    I think a turbo would come in handy up there!

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I lived there, a turbocharger would be high on my wishlist. But for the very occasional trip to the mountains, the normally aspirated engine is fine.

      Thanks, Daniel. If I lived in or near the mountains, I would very much want to have a turbocharger or turbonormalizer. But given that high elevations are a rare exception for me, a turbo - while desirable - is not high enough on my priority list to make the cut.

    I like your simple presentation of the real world of aviation which truly shows the beauty of it instead of trying to sell an almost catastrophic flight like some others. It's because of this kind of exposure that I think people will be drawn to GA. Well done!

      @martinpauly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've never used vfr flight plans. I either file IFR or use vfr flight following. Why do prefer the vfr flight plans?

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Daniel. I would take VFR flight following over a VFR flight plan, but in the mountains, unless you are very high, there's not much radar coverage. So VFR flight following doesn't work that well there. A VFR flight plan gives peace of mind for search and rescue, should the unthinkable happen.
