Rygo, this is so awesome. Thanks for creating the unhooked beginners guide! Being so prescriptive to us about practicing, drilling, and practicing again on these foundational steps. It is super helpful! It reminds me of basic basketball drills- shooting the ball hundreds of times from underneath the hoop from 1' away and building up to layups, etc.
Dude, this is such a good guide! Very well explained, saves a lot of whiplashes and pulled shoulders ;) Speaking from (painful) experience - still healing up 🤦🏻♂️
@@MACkiteboarding It's the shoulder that got most of the beating but it's starting to feel ok again when unhooked - it's just that Scottish 2C weather isn't very welcoming for throwing new tricks right now :)
Thanks my friend! I'm stoked to see positive feedback on this series. I've been wanting to do these tutorials for a while but I was unsure if people wanted this kind of content. - Rygo
I think the important moment here is also the equipment: board with big e.g. 50mm fins would be more difficult to slide in motion. As in a video most(if not all) boards have tiny fins or if any at all.
How do you pull the bar in to your hip to start? It takes a lot of strength even riding at the kite. If I depower fully then I don't have the speed but if I gain speed unhooked & try, I still don't have the strength. North Pulse 2020. I've managed a handful of times in the past but most days I just can't get it. Maybe it's to do with wind consistency? I can do surface 3 on cable which should be harder. Additionally I've practiced a lot on the beach in low wind. Hmm, I'll take the fins off, they might be catching creating line tension? I really appreciate your tutes Rygo.
It could be the wind yes. If it’s gusty or shifty, you might not be going downwind enough. Big fins will make this more difficult too. There is more tension on the kite than cable so practice and build up the strength. If you pull really hard with both hands, ideally you will be going the same speed as the kite and it will be easy. - Rygo
Poch Amores It can be because of light wind. Some kites stall easier too. Try trimming the kite. It should stay in place when fully sheeted in. You might need to maintain a slight edge too. Just enough to have a little line tension. Some kites stall if you ride directly at them. What kite are you using? - Rygo
I’v never used the Nexus. I looked it up though. It looks like it was designed for unhooking. They have sick colors! Maybe there is a setting you can change. Otherwise, try what I wrote above. - Rygo
I want to do railey to blind, but I find surface pass so hard... every time I try to do it, I am stucked at 90° rotation... Has anyone manged to do a railey to blind without doing a surface pass?
Finally found proper unhooked tutorials - thank you!

I worked it out
Awesome video...any kite works for this?
Freestyle kites work best as they won’t backstall. But yes most kites work fine! - Rygo
Would this be easier to learn without fins on?
Ryan Goloversic thanks for the advice, I’ll give it a go in my next light wind sesh 🤙🏄♂️

whenever I try this I end up choking the kite to the point where it almost folds. is this because the wind is too light?
