Any "delayed" fuse amazes me, considering the forces on initial impact; that any device can survive first contact and still work when it reaches the depth.
Just a quick note, as of this writing, JSOWs come on a BRU dual mount, so you can carry eight max, and the TOO mode method of designation now involves manual laser rangefinding. You now have to enable the ltd/r switch, box trig, slew the scene cursor over your target, laze, then hit TDC depress which will update the jdam/jsow coordinates. AFAIK it no longer auto updates the weapon program
This is wrong, as long as you have done the startup correct and the ins has aligned properly you can just designate as normal. JSOWS use GPS coordinates and lasing has nothing to do with this
@@espen121 assuming you have preexisting gps coordinates, such as from a waypoint/markpoint, yes. but if you're in TOO going after, say, a stationary artillery position between waypoints, the tpod needs to get precise location data from something. They've even updated the JDAM/JSOW tutorials to reflect this.
@@Spectre-907 The pod gets its precise location data from GPS when you designate where its pointing? I'm just saying that if you are using the pod to find your TOO target, there is no situation where you need to laze to find range lol, it doesn't make sense (: I literally did this 10 times yesterday without ever needing to laze, just try and you'll see
My brain broke when I tried to program all 8, lol. I thought some of them were going to attack me. Its been 40 years since I wrote that many numbers with a pencil, lol. I didn't need to laze anything though. Why would you bring a JSOW to to hunt artie?
@@Despiser25 "Why would you bring a JSOW to to hunt arty?" I dunno, maybe because artillery is a high-value asset positioned 3-10km behind the front lines, right around where other high-value assets like tactical command posts and ammunition dumps are located, and just happens to be both in the portion of the battlespace where longer-range tactical SAM systems tend to be located by the limits of their employment time AND because the artillery, CPs, and supply dumps are assets to which SAM coverage is deliberately assigned? A CEM-bomblet JSOW seems like *exactly* the weapon one would want to use against artillery positions in a high-threat AD environment against a capable foe with plentiful and effective tactical SAM systems, like the Russians or Chinese. Chances are excellent that in a real-world high-intensity conflict with a near-peer adversary, there would be SA-11/ SA-15/ HQ-16 or similar coverage over the artillery positions.
Thanks, great video. Is it possible to set the different coordinates with the targeting pod for each station independently, and then just press the button four times to release all of them at once?
Thanks for straight on "info that I need" video. I´m kinda new for JSOW´s (have used em a lot but the usage of fire is kinda still "random" for me :P) SO: What is "kinda" optimum "velocity/height" settting for JSOW A´s (clusters, damned that annoys me that CLUSTER is A not vice verca :D).. ? But do ppl have "basic" setting for big boomboom. It gets really interesting if one puts big velocity and huge height but... :) So any tips..? Where is "optimum" for your shooting? OR does ppl even change the speed for clusters? (Btw dealyed in JSOW A IRL just means that the final "skeet" explodes after penetrating armor, but in DCS it just seems to make clusters more or less bummer..? As was told here also, more or les..)
Thanks a lot for the viddeo! :D What do you hit in order to designate with the TPOD the target and un-designate it so you can move it around and lock onto something else? Is it the Depress key of moving the tpod around? thanks again
Does the HDG function work? For example I cant stop the planes I want to kill from taxiing onto the ramp in a traffic jam so Id like to just cluster them now, lol. I could fly the heading of this ramp but it would be nice to set the heading and simply have the JSOW od it for me. It would be nice to have a SLAMER with cluster to just follow the wpt then send me the terminal signal for control. Not matter what I try I cant get it to work. I think I may just be ovber thinking sometihng that I dont actually know the basics of yet, lol. Let me do a plain agm154a kill before I get over complicated.

Thank you for taking the time to make this DCS F/A-18C JSOW Target of Opportunity delivery mode tutorial for us Deephack.

I haven't had much luck with these. Most of the time, they just slightly miss the target or don't kill the target.

Yes indeed. That is a mode called PP for pre planned. Check out my video here for that th-cam.com/video/RzaX8M3Q-Ms/w-d-xo.html
That concludes it, we need to start geneteically cloning that tree and building hangers and/or planes out of it!

Short version: Any tips for height / velocity "optimut" default setting what ppl use? (for cluster JSOW´s)
Not entirely sure on that one. Would have to do some testing.
thank you so much!
great video mate. Just one question. When you set the burst height od the canister JSOW was it above sea level or above ground level?
Height is always a measurement above ground or target. Altitude would be above sea level. Thanks!

Default Enter on the keyboard, works both for AA/AG. To undesignate in AG you simply slew the pod elsewhere and select your new POI
Thank you!! :)

Yes, terminal guidance does work in the hornet.
FYI the C does not have an EO seeker, look at it... Very new JSOW models do.
Thanks for the correction. I was repeating what I read in the Chuck's guide.
How do those perform against active sam sights?
Many modern SAM systems can detect and shoot them down. When fired on masse though with some TALD mixed in you should be able to overwelm most sites.
@@deephack ah okay, so like with the harms. I try to specialise on SEAD/DEAD with the F-18, the meta probably still is Harms+cluster bombs
