Another purpose is to locate water / gas pipes in walls (when you want to drill), when cold water or gas is running through a pipe, the temperature of the pipe will be lower then ambient temperature. Fire department use Thermal Imaging Camera's to locate people in burning buildings, but they also use these camera's to locate wasp nest in walls. A few years ago, we had a wasp nest inside a cavity wall, and with a Thermal Imaging Camera, they could locate the nest, and could see how big the nest was, because such a nest creates heat. It was a very hot day, but you could see the nest cleary on the screen. Regarding the usb port, i did a quick search, and even a very expensive FLIR that costs 3x as much as this HTI HT-19 still use a Mini-USB port. It seems that many device manufacturers have a overstock on these Mini and Micro USB ports, because they keep using these annoying ports.
