Welcome to SA hope you guys have an amazing experience in our beautiful country, let's hope you go onto Botswana, a true once in a life time experience. You will not want to leave.
In my experience once the wheel is allowed to run loose it will affect the wheel nut recesses as in ovality so I'd keep an eye on that by reguarly checking the torgue settings, you might even have to replace rim entirely if it becomes an issue.
I randomly came across one of your build videos a while back where you uncovered the rotten floor. Remember thinking “what a nightmare” and felt a bit sorry for you guys. Glad to see you figured everything out and are finally out adventuring. Well done and good luck with the trip!
Just found your channel and subbed. What a great adventure!! I’m looking forward to following along with your travels. Wonderful to see the Defender in its natural habitat! Thanks for this!
Hi guys, just came across your channel! Been a landy fan for years, been privileged enough to own 6 of them ,throughout the years.Driven them in ,Namibia,Botswana and Zambia, Iceland,Ontario Canada ,Scottish highlands and of course, here in the welsh mountains...God I miss my landy 😢.Will continue to follow your adventures,Best wishes from Wales 🏴
Great to see you guys back on YT and safely arrived in Sth Africa. Great to see you adventure unfold, amazing scenery. Must be hard seeing all those kids begging though..... You mentioned Red Wharf Bay - about 10 mins from whee I live! Safe travels 🙂
Looks like this strip is all about yourselves and your Landy. I hope the next foreigners who have the privilege to visit share a few crumbs with the Sesuto children. They are lovely people.
Hey there, I guess the trip is about an adventure and experiencing different cultures and countries. We definitely did share what we could when we could. We had some young shepherds over for a cup of tea and biscuit one morning. What I don’t approve of is what a lot of people do and throw “sweets” out the window at these kids. Making them shout “sweets” at any foreigner they see.. we do what we can 👍🏻😀 Harry
This is wonderful. I wish you guys all the very best and oneday hope to follow in your footsteps in my old cruiser 105 series. I hope your time in SA is good and thank you for the inspiration.
Loose wheel nuts can strike with new wheels as the powder coating gets crushed at points of contact. Check after 50 miles when refitting a wheel, especially a spare which might still have a thick paint layer.
Welcome to SA,see you already met the King of Africa expeditions, Kingsley!so no doubt sorted for advice.that trip up the pass looked exhausting pushing that suv, so hope u had few beers.,
True commitment shipping your vehicles to SA. I suppose you could have rented Japanese vehicles here, but then the story would never be the same, it’s now a journey from building your Landy at home in the UK, to where you are now. Well done💪💪
Good luck guys ..I have a defender but a 90 so make a lousy camper 😊 looks a wonderful place I have a friend in SA but haven’t been yet ..hopefully one day …lots of love and take care .x will keep track
I watched the build videos and it is great to now see you out and putting the Landy to use. Thanks for bringing us along on your adventure. Can you tell us about the fire pit that you are using at the end of this video?
Hey Dan thanks for following along! Yeah absolutely, it’s a petromax Atago if you message me on Instagram I can share a discount code for you to look at for their website! 😄
If your wheels were recently powder-coated the nuts will come loose/ plus extra heat/cooling cycles with temps driving long distances won’t help if not correctly torqued. Enjoy my home country.
Must have been exhausting (and annoying) pushing that car all the way up the Sani! Well done for helping those people out. That is how it goes in Africa :)
You, how did they let that Rav 4 through. Thanks for the patience to help them. We hiked up to the Lesotho border December 2022. The Sandi pass road looks horrible from the rains 😫
If you get loose wheel nuts and you're concerned about them just put red Loctite on the threads, It's overkill but works. How did you two go with the change in food? usually when you eat different food from another country you body sometimes doesn't agree with it and you can become very sick but also the food standards are different there.
Thanks for this tip! There was a transitional period where our bodies were getting used to our new environment. I’d say we are pretty well conditioned now and our stomachs are a lot stronger than at the start of the trip 🤣
Hello! What do you mean exactly? We have a budget for the trip and we keep a list of absolutely everything we are spending to try to see if we go outside of the budget or not. I hope that answers the question! H
Hey there, it’s an awesome fire pit. It’s called an Atago by petromax a German company. If you message us on Instagram I can share a discount code you can use for the retailer website 😀🤙🏼
Welcome to South Africa, where you choose which pothole to drive into because you can’t avoid going into 1. You should be able to claim for any damage caused by potholes to your car but you need to wait in line, I am still waiting for my claim…since 2020 and since 2017 for another car that I ended up selling The guys in the Toyota RAV4 finally know why their car is not regarded as an off-road car and should stay on sealed roads and slightly wet grass.
So as I am sure, you already know and probably had people tell you need to do a couple things you need to buy a couple of good mics that will clip to your shirt so we can actually hear you. And you need to buy some good wind socks for Mike’s because the wind is not pleasant.

Hey guys , so good to see your travels, a quick question…. Is it a problem to ship a vehicle to Africa in order to traverse the many countries and is it a difficult process at the various borders? Hope you have the time to answer as we’ve given it a lot of thought 😁Happy travels, Lindsay and Helene
Hey there sorry for my delayed response. Yeah so shipping is relatively easy. As for boarder crossings. Other than Lesotho we haven’t done any yet so cannot say for sure. I’ve heard they can be difficult in some countries. H

Welcome to South Africa the wheel nuts should not lossen with pot holes it must not have been tightened correctly. Hope you have safe travels in SA.
I think you are right 😖
In my experience once the wheel is allowed to run loose it will affect the wheel nut recesses as in ovality so I'd keep an eye on that by reguarly checking the torgue settings, you might even have to replace rim entirely if it becomes an issue.
