My personal head canon is that GI Joe and Cobra get them from the same manufacturer, and that the Cobra ones are either repurposed Civilian versions or Surplus models, like the military HUMVEEs that you saw on the street in the late 90's. Or maybe they were built by Destro's company to begin with. . .
Couldn't disagree more on the Stinger Driver. Must be an age group/generational thing because as i kid WE loved this figure, even more so than the original blue shirt trooper. His colors matched perfectly with the vehicle, and the grey gave him a real intriguing aura of higher ranking. Love the reviews as always man keep them coming!
awesome video!!! this was the first ever GiJoe vehicle I ever got back in 1987, it was super exciting having a car for the joes and cobras to drive around in. the wheels were squeeky straight away lol, brings back alot of memories, i will have to go out to the storage stuff in the garage and find this and mess round with it and the rest of the figures and sets!!!! :)
Merry Christmas and happy new year. Thank you for being a leading part of something I love, and something that no one in my personal life cares about. It is great to have a community, but it is nothing without you , and people like you. Here's looking forward to many more reviews in 2018! Thanks again!
Jason, you are very kind. Without you caring, there wouldn't be a community! I'm glad you're enjoying G.I. Joe. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and let's have a great 2018!
Stinger is great toy and good topic for last review of this year. It also shows that even back then Hasbro knew how to re-use molds like they do a lot these days with they Transformers toys.
Awesome work! The stinger was one of my favorites but never had it as a child. I didn't mind the figure and the colors of the figure meshed really well with the vehicle, however since he is the equivalent of a major I figured he would have had a silver Cobra symbol on his chest versus the enlisted red. Looking through your comments it's amazing to seeing how many people were in your live chat tonight that have posted on here. You certainly have a lot of followers who have stuck through with you through the years. Something to be very happy and pleased with I say.
I remember way back using the stinger driver as an lieutenant, the officer as a sargent and the cobra as a private. I guess the more silver/grey you had, the better.
I think in the Marvel Joe comics, Destro revealed that he supplied both Joe and Cobra with advanced weapons, so the Stinger/Vamp reskin wasn't cost-cutting by Hasbro, but by Destro! I got the Stinger and ASP in a two-pack, probably a Canadian exclusive.
Fun vid and a vehicle I haven't gotten but would like to one day. The Driver I do have an I really love the color scheme and he was always used as a higher ranking Officer in my early setups. Fun stuff thanks for a great year of entertaining and insightful videos seeya in 2018! Love the blooper roll just like The Cannonball Run fun times!
Thank you! Yeah, I could kinda see the Stinger Driver as a higher-ranking officer. Maybe he should be freed from the Stinger. Instead of being behind the wheel, he should be leading the troops.
I kind of think since this was at a very early point in the line no real Cobra Rank and file structure had been established for the uniform Officers and Soldiers so they kind of played around with it as things went on. Thats always been the thing for me is that we had endless legions of Eels, Crimson Guards, Vipers, and specialized Vipers but no really defined structure of command or rank insignia to reflect different levels of command and rank. Perhaps some sticker sheets with stripes you could self apply would have been a cool idea but as we know never happened. I really "Dig" the vibe you catch onto especially with the early part of the line with the Joe team in mostly Green vehicles and Cobra in Black and Blue schemes. Have a great holiday season and yeah man keep the fun coming! All the best to your family as well for their participation in your work for us all here.
I want to wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and a happy new year's all the best ..... I used to have this vehicle and I loved it awesome work as always ...yea that squeaky wheel thing was annoying but I still didn't mind playing with it
Never had the stinger, but had multiple hiss tanks somehow as a child. Also had the snowcat with frostbite, the transport vehicle, the water moccasin cobra boat, the Cobra rattler, but never had the G.I. Joe striker or the vamp, All in all, somehow my childhood collection favored cobra vehicles. But as far as the figures went I was pretty much dead even between Joe's and Cobras give it take any duplicate or triples of any figures I may have somehow amassed.
your videos have added fuel to my collecting gi joe and ive really enjoyed seeing these reviews all year long! i hope you and your family have a great christmas and new year and i cant wait to see whats in store for 2018.
The dumb thing about this vehicle is that anybody who rides on the foot pegs gets burnt to a crisp when they fire a rocket. Lol. It's directly in the path of the blast off.
My first vamp variant was the mail order stinger and it's still one of my favorites that survived the teen years purge. Thanks for the reviews this year, I watch these with sons and we all enjoy them. Merry Xmas and see you in the new year.
Thanks, HCC! Great review, great year! For what it's worth, my Stinger's steering wheel mounts differently than yours. It doesn't have the orange juicer-like peg on the dash for the wheel to mount to, just a round, keyed slot. The same as in your VAMP MK II review.
Thank you! There is a variant of the Stinger out there with the Vamp mk II's dash board and steering wheel. You may have that. There are so many variants to the Vamp family I can't keep track of them all.
Great review!!! Lots of memories with that vehicle. The HISS and Stinger were my first COBRA vehicles to be given to me as a kid!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family and a Happy New Year!!
This is a great design. I didn't have this as a kid, but managed to pick up the re-issue called the rattler 4x4 it came with a female driver that looked like jinx, but in all black. It's not from the vintage line
Hi Christian. I think this is a fantastic vehicle and I really like the driver. He really stands out from the blue Cobra infantry soldier and officer. I think the colour of the driver really suits the vehicle. Check out the site "Analog Toy's" which compares the AWE Striker and Stinger in terms of speed, firepower etc and it ends in a draw! I disagree with this gentleman as I really like the Stinger driver.
All the best to you and yours, and a happy holiday! ^_^ And thank you for all that you do. Looking forward to the Q+A as well. Otherwise, see you in the new year. Be safe out there!
Great ending, way to get your family involved. I'm glad that you reviewed this one again, it is my #2 fave, HISS being #1. Awesome job! Yes this channel has been a nice respite for me, I'm sure many others. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Bud Lite, YO Joe!
Just enjoying a "vintage" review during the lockdown. Don't know if you read old comments, but have you ever considered doing a legacy video on particular vehicles? Much like this review, but with less emphasis on the figures, if any, and instead the uses of the mold or evolution of the name over time? I know you're not a "modern" collector per se, but all the vehicles work pretty well with the classic Joes except for the foot pegs. An episode on the HiSS legacy or VAMP legacy, or FANG? Maybe the multiple uses of the MOBAT mold and where/when the tow hitch disappeared?! Thanks again!
B,It was a rough year. Thank you for your videos! They have been something positive I looked forward to each Sunday in 2017. Thanks again! Looking to a great 2018!Keep up the great work!Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!K
Hey HCC, what would you think of Hasbro making reissues of vintage-style GI Joes such as popular/important characters and army-builders that look exactly like the originals that we love except for a new stamp? Much like Kenners re-release of the main characters from the vintage Star Wars-line! And what´s your feelings on "custom" figures like the ones by Black Major and now Red Laser? Personally I´ve got a few and I like them very much. Also I find that they are a great and interesting addition to my very large GI Joe collection.
If they were exact replica, I would think it might have an impact on the 'collectors market'. But I don't even know if companies were aware of that at the time or even care today.
You could make additional toys as Christmas tree by your toys you could send Rock vipers team or Hit & Run into the tree too ! Have a peaceful Christmas ...
I prefer the space on the back being for fuel or water cans. I always liked little accessories like that. A personnel platform also really doesn't make sense on the Stinger as anyone stood there will get fried as soon as the rockets are launched. No wonder Cobra always lost.
I had a mail away Stinger without the driver so I didn't miss much. As you have said in many videos GI JOE puts Drivers in contrasting colors then their Vehicles. Moray-Lampreys Hiss Driver -Hiss Rattler-Wild Weasel. Please Review the Mauler in 2018. Merry Christmas to all of you
I'll try to review the Mauler. I just need to complete it! I'm missing all the hard-to-find, expensive parts. Merry Christmas! And I'm sorry, I keep wanting to call you Adam Airwolf.
First time, long time. Love the hoodie. It's super comfortable. I also love the Casablanca poster. My favorite film to this day. Thanks and Mele Kalikimaka.
Casablanca has always been one of our favorites. Our movie posters are often covered by my green screen, but my studio is taken down for the holidays. I get to see my walls! Have a great holiday season!
Merry Giftmas! Good review, cool vehicle but shames the Hasbro guys didn't alter the driver figure from the original Cobra officer figure. All they had to do is give it a different head with a variation on the helmet, driving goggles and lower legs that incorporated knee pads and a proper file card.
Thank you so much for the review! Great job! Your videos have been a big help getting me through a rough year! Really appreciate the channel being there for me, to kind of serve as an escape to something from a time when everything wasn't so stressful! Have a wonderful holidays, and a great New Year!
Thank you, Del. We all need a break from the world, especially when things get rough. This year has had many ups and downs. I hope next year is better for you. Happy holidays!
maybe a little harsh on the figure. the way i see it, you are getting a cobra soldier with a different paint job. i find the color scheme quite striking
I kinda want someone to pimp my ride and make it look like the Stinger. I would probably add a windshield, it's probably really cold in there on the highway.
Correction on the mail order thing :In 1986 the cobra stinger was available through mail order without the driver in 1987 the stinger was available for mail order with the driver in 1988 the drivers was available for mail order but not the stinger.
Love this jeep it was called the night attack jeep in the uk the only difference between the 2 was the stickers then in 86 they made it officially gi joe and it was identical to the us version
Hasbro rereleased this early this year & I passed on it…regrettably. But during pulscon, some were in stock & not just for pre’. $33. Should be cheaper
I love this vehicle and all the versions except the Tiger force one. I'm not a tiger force, Python patrol or sky patrol fan. So haters Hate. But again. These original vehicles and figures were the best.
My 7 year old found some of my old Joes that my mom didn't give away. To add to that we bought him some "Corp" figures, and some other soldier type figures. what are your thoughts on other Gi-Joe like figures, and do you collect any of them?
I remember buying this in the 80s in a store with my own saved up money, it was on sale I had just enough after the lady behind the counter counted up the money.......thats a true story. Anyway I disagree always thought the driver looked well cool in an understated way.
Thank you! We had fun shooting that segment, but the continuity proved to be very difficult. If I moved, something would fall off of me, and it couldn't be put back exactly the same. And there was too much material to do the whole thing that way. Too bad. I thought it would be a fun running gag through the whole video.
Nice review. One question though: given the name for the Tiger Sting, do you think that it was originally intended to have been a recolored Stinger instead of a Vamp? Merry Christmas!!!
This is one place where Tiger Force didn't make a whole lot of sense. The name "Tiger Sting" suggests it is a captured Stinger. But it clearly is NOT a Stinger since it has the Vamp II's missile box. And why would they bother to capture a Stinger, since the Stinger is just a copy of one of their own vehicles anyway? They did repaint some Joe vehicles for Tiger Force, like the Dragonfly.
I did look at the blueprints, thanks to YOJOE.com, and saw that the missiles for both the VAMP Mk II and the Tiger Sting are both Stinger missiles. Maybe that's the name's origin... Anyway, nice to see I sparked a small debate.
I'm aware I should *respect* those who've posted comments that they *like* these vehicles and drivers, but I'm not a fan of them (unlike 1983's Hiss Drivers and Viper Pilots), since they're one of the four 1982-86 characters who never appeared in the 80s Sunbow cartoon. It's possible that, after Hasbro released the Hiss Drivers and Viper Pilots, in 1983 (especially merely one year after then), they thought they didn't want too much association with any *more* of these nameless Cobra drivers, hence the Stinger Drivers were left out of the cartoon.
The Stinger and Stinger Driver are my favorite vehicle/driver of all ARAH Cobras.
This vehicle always was special to me. I got this and Storm Shadow for my First Communion in 1984. Two iconic parts of the 1984 line,
That's an awesome memory. Those are two great gifts to get together! I would have had Storm Shadow driving the Stinger!
My personal head canon is that GI Joe and Cobra get them from the same manufacturer, and that the Cobra ones are either repurposed Civilian versions or Surplus models, like the military HUMVEEs that you saw on the street in the late 90's.
Or maybe they were built by Destro's company to begin with. . .

Very nice review of the Cobra Stinger and Stinger Driver. It look really good to have and never boring to look at.
Have a great holiday HCC788 Yo Joe!!!!!!!!!!
I hope you have a great holiday season, too!!!
Stinger is great toy and good topic for last review of this year. It also shows that even back then Hasbro knew how to re-use molds like they do a lot these days with they Transformers toys.
Hasbro never missed an opportunity to do it cheaper.
Wow, I can't wait for what you have in mind for 2018.
I am having childhood GIJoe war flashback...thanks to you
I'm sorry. I hope you don't get G.I. Joe PTSD. We'll make it through together.
I have/had the COBRA STINGER as well; made up tech specs for it, too!
Awesome work! The stinger was one of my favorites but never had it as a child. I didn't mind the figure and the colors of the figure meshed really well with the vehicle, however since he is the equivalent of a major I figured he would have had a silver Cobra symbol on his chest versus the enlisted red. Can't wait to see this in Classified Series!
This vehicle is really cool. It's a shame that here in Brazil it's very expensive and it's usually not complete, but this toy is really nice.
Merry Xmas! Thanks for your reviews!
Thanks and merry Xmas to you, too! I hope next year is even better!
Great vid, Merry Christmas HCC clan.
Thank you! Merry Christmas to all your folks, too!
Merry Christmas!
Merry, Christmas to you, too!
Love this vehicle and its driver. Found one at a thrift store a couple of months ago. No missle rack but still cool
His file card looks really cool. Never had it
Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year...#YoeJoe👊
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! And let's hope 2018 is a great one!

The dumb thing about this vehicle is that anybody who rides on the foot pegs gets burnt to a crisp when they fire a rocket. Lol. It's directly in the path of the blast off.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope we can do something together again.
Definitely!
My first vamp variant was the mail order stinger and it's still one of my favorites that survived the teen years purge. Thanks for the reviews this year, I watch these with sons and we all enjoy them. Merry Xmas and see you in the new year.
Thanks for watching with your kids! That makes me happy. Have a great holiday season!
Thanks a ton for another year of great top-tier content, I'm already looking forward to next years content! Happy holidays!
Thank you for sticking around! Have a great holiday season!
I use the crimson guardsmen as the driver for the stinger. The stinger driver flies the fang.
Awesome review HCC and I hope you and your family have a fantastic Christmas 👍
Thank you! A fantastic Christmas to your family, too!
Another great review!
Thank you!
My favourite Cobra vehicle
That's a good one for a favorite! Happy holidays!
Great review to end the year, HoodedCobracommander! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Thank you! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you, too!
Great review!!! Lots of memories with that vehicle. The HISS and Stinger were my first COBRA vehicles to be given to me as a kid!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family and a Happy New Year!!
That's a great place to start, with the HISS and the Stinger! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours!
Thank you, sir.
This is a great design. I didn't have this as a kid, but managed to pick up the re-issue called the rattler 4x4 it came with a female driver that looked like jinx, but in all black. It's not from the vintage line
Right. That was Vypra. Justin Bell seemed to really like that character. I kinda wish it had been released in the vintage era so I could review it.
HoodedCobraCommander788 may the HCC788 family have a merry Christmas
I enjoy the repainted figure. I think it looks cool.
@@johnroche7541 Agreed. I like him so much, I have two! The Stinger will be coming shortly. I think missiles out gun a cannon probably.
All the best to you and yours, and a happy holiday! ^_^ And thank you for all that you do.
Looking forward to the Q+A as well. Otherwise, see you in the new year. Be safe out there!
Thank you! Have a great holiday! The Q&A announcement is coming this week!
We need a new HCC t-shirt where the back is just a wall of text which is your narration for the articulation points for the figures.
Hey, that's a fun idea. If i have a few minutes, I'll try to whip something up for the store on the website.
Dude! Spoiler alert please ;-)
And then after that I killed Han Solo.
Have a great holiday season. I know there have been some tough times this year. Next year will be better. Yo Joe!
Nice one! Good review of a cool vehicle.
Thank you!
B,It was a rough year. Thank you for your videos! They have been something positive I looked forward to each Sunday in 2017. Thanks again! Looking to a great 2018!Keep up the great work!Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!K
I'm sorry it was a rough year, but I hope 2018 will be better! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I'm wondering why they didn't manufactured 5-10 packs of army builders and make a clear separation between 'individuals' vs 'groups'.
I like to see a review of the HISS II Tank. It's an awesome vehicle with troop carrying ability. 👍😎
I prefer the space on the back being for fuel or water cans. I always liked little accessories like that. A personnel platform also really doesn't make sense on the Stinger as anyone stood there will get fried as soon as the rockets are launched. No wonder Cobra always lost.

First time, long time.

How well do the packrat missiles stay in? My stinger missiles are good but they fall out easily do the pack rat missiles stay in any better?

Correction on the mail order thing :In 1986 the cobra stinger was available through mail order without the driver in 1987 the stinger was available for mail order with the driver in 1988 the drivers was available for mail order but not the stinger.
2 things I want to know about Cobra
1. How does there rank system work?
2. What is there soft covers when they don't were there helmet.
The rank system still isn't clear to me. Some members of the Finest cosplay group use berets when not wearing the helmets.
Happy Holidays to you and yours buddy. Can't wait for the next review. The Stinger is a great vehicle. Love it. Take care. Roy
Thanks, and happy holidays to you, too!
Oh the squeak!!!!!
Love this jeep it was called the night attack jeep in the uk the only difference between the 2 was the stickers then in 86 they made it officially gi joe and it was identical to the us version

If you doñt mind me asking where can you order gi joe and cobra repro stickers I have vehichles that need new stickers
The Stinger should have come with just a standard Cobra soldier.
Army building
I love this vehicle and all the versions except the Tiger force one. I'm not a tiger force, Python patrol or sky patrol fan. So haters Hate. But again. These original vehicles and figures were the best.
The driver yellowed in the right way so it could be passed of as sand.
It's weird to vote for something and get what you asked for. Usually you get Theresa May. Awesome review, HCC!
Thank you! I would have been stuck with Boris Johnson.
My 7 year old found some of my old Joes that my mom didn't give away. To add to that we bought him some "Corp" figures, and some other soldier type figures. what are your thoughts on other Gi-Joe like figures, and do you collect any of them?
I don't collect the Corps figures, but I have a handful of them. They are nice compliments to Joe figures and vehicles. I like them a lot.
I remember buying this in the 80s in a store with my own saved up money, it was on sale I had just enough after the lady behind the counter counted up the money.......thats a true story. Anyway I disagree always thought the driver looked well cool in an understated way.
We still love you Hoodie!
Trimming the Joe Fan also seems like a good tradition 😂😂😂
Thank you!
We had fun shooting that segment, but the continuity proved to be very difficult. If I moved, something would fall off of me, and it couldn't be put back exactly the same. And there was too much material to do the whole thing that way. Too bad. I thought it would be a fun running gag through the whole video.
Too bad original stinger drivers are rarer than the officers!
Awesome video, but um.... There's a big ol' fish on your Christmas tree....
Thanks. That's Audrey's favorite ornament for some reason. She wanted to make sure it was in the shot.
Haha that's awesome :) Merry Christmas to you and your family. I certainly look forward to watching your videos in the new year.
Nice review. One question though: given the name for the Tiger Sting, do you think that it was originally intended to have been a recolored Stinger instead of a Vamp?
Merry Christmas!!!
Sparkster 1701 I have one, I asked myself the same question. It would look great with the Stingers missile rack.
Maybe Hasbro or the fan club could release a custom one like that.
Great review great way to end the year
Thank you!
oh yea!!!
*The Kool-Aid Man.
indeed. lol. the only early cobra vehicle I didn't own. I had the fang hiss rattler and the asp.
You should see street fighter capcom street striker
Bottom tier for the driver...surprised. I kinda like him
The right thigh is cracked on the figure.
