    Best brands for butter in Kenya are KCC (salted), Lurpak, and Brown's. Maybe Danone (Brookside) too.

      We’ve not had the one we bought and we’re enjoying it so far. However we’ll look for the ones you recommend whenever we run out. Thanks friend!

      Thank you! We will look for it when we run out of the one we have. Can we find it at most grocery stores or is it only sold at Carrefour?

      That’s what we said!! We felt like we got some good deals and we shopped at what is considered the expensive grocery store.
      We do want to try shopping the local markets where we have to negotiate for items, but the prices are supposed to be much lower.
      We love the shopping here in Kenya.

      @@TravelCheckIns All the major stores - Carrefour, Naivas and Quickmart have prices set and there's no negotiation. There are tonnes of mini markets (supermarkets) all across neighbourhoods with set prices. The only things that are negotiable are veggies, fruits and such like and even then some have price tags on them. Bargaining/haggling happens with mostly formal small businesses or anyone who sells something on the streets or in the flea markets. But you are right haggling is a thing since most people are self employed engaged in small businesses.

      You make a great point! It’s interesting how perceptions can be different from reality when it comes to costs of living in various parts of the world. Sometimes, it’s not just about the prices but the overall quality of life and what you get for your money. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

      I think it depends on the location of where you shop at. But generally Nairobi is the most expensive of anywhere in Kenya. We gotta steal from all the expats around. 😂

    With the grocery filled with imported items that surely are out of reach of many ordinary Kenyans how are they surviving?

    • @TravelCheckIns
      @TravelCheckIns  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are many small business produce stalls and butchers along the roads where locals shop for groceries. There are also open air markets where some locals buy groceries. A lot of Kenyans in Nairobi shop the major grocery stores.

      Carrefour tends to be in high market places. The local supermarket brands are cheaper with more local products, including farm produce

    You may get angry with me for what I am going to say, but that is OK and expected. You guys are not being realistic. You are mentally still in the USA, which is a very dangerous mindset to have. Leave the USA behind and focus on Kenya. KSH 4K+ seems like nothing because you keep converting everything to USD, and then it seems cheap compared to the USA.
    In your shopping, you have not actually bought food, and you spent 4K+, wait to when you actually buy food, then you will see the difference. Showing the internet what your lifestyle is may seem nice and affluent, but the reality will hit you soon. Keep doing what you are doing and showing the world. When the novelty wears off, real life will step in to put some focus in your lives. God bless.
