  • I've been suffering from headaches for over 10 years, and here's a couple of things I've learnt that help me get through them.
UPDATE: I've recently gone on blood pressure medication, stopped drinking 2 diet coke's every day, started taking Vitamin K2 and Magnesium supplements. I'm not sure what of those have had an effect, but my headaches are SIGNIFICANTLY reduced, to the point that they're barely noticeable. If I was to guess, I would say it's cutting out the diet cokes that did it, but I don't know for sure. If you're getting headaches and drink a lot of diet coke, you may want to try this.

Disclaimer, I'm not a doctor either. I've struggled with a recurring sinus infection and headaches for years.
Be careful with pain killers, the number one cause of frequent headaches is over-use of pain medication. I made my headaches worse for years until I learned this.
Exercise is great, because it increases the bodies demand for oxygen and the naval cavities naturally increase in size to accommodate this which can offer some relief.
A doctor once told me that steam is the only thing that can really get to that area. A face steamer or just putting a towel over your head and inhaling the steam from a bowl of boiling water can offer very quick relief. A hot shower will yield similar results.
Generally looking after your immune system, eating well, exercising regularly and all the usual advice will reduce the frequency and severity of infection flare ups.
I've been managing this for a decade too now, I also occasionally have dry cracked sinuses which bleed, the blood dries and can feel very sharp. The headaches can be truly debilitating at times. I've avoided the surgery route also, because it sounds very invasive. My friend had a deviated septum corrected which he said changed his life initially, but less than a year later it's reverted back to the way it was before. This and other stories make the risks outweigh the rewards for now, so I just try to manage it.
I was conceived in the final year of British Leyland, so I blame them for my manufacturing defects. Like many products of the BL era I was released prematurely with some glaring design oversights.

If antibiotics help, it is also possible to take them for a prolonged time. Some antibiotics like doxycyline are suitable for that, because they don't kill the bacteria but only slow their growing. So resistance will not be a problem mostly. From my own experience as a cystic fibrosis patient I know that sinus problems mostly stayed away after I started continuous use of doxycycline (100 mg once daily). I use it for 30 years now and it stil works. It is very common for patients with cystic fibrosis to have chronic sinusitis and taking chronic doxycyline is a very common treatment amongst them. I had all the operations also, but they only helped temporarily. If you also have nasal polyps, they should be removed by surgery, and again if they re-grow. It is possible to do this surgery with local anaesthesia nowadays, ask your specialist (not all hospitals do it, mostly they use general anaesthesia which is not necessary). You will be in and out the hospital the same day and have no pain from it afterwards. I had it done about 10 times, last time is 20 years ago and they did not come back since (probably then I had no ethmoid left worth mentioning lol). Also the twice daily use of nasal spray with corticosteriods like beconase nasal spray can be very effective to prevent sinusitis or polyps from re-occurring. Wintertime is especially bad, if you don't want to take antibiotics the whole time, you could do it from november to march. I am not a doctor but I have been back and forth the problem several times in my life. I think running is effective because it raises the bloodpressure and the bloodstream in the nasal cavities which makes the mucous membranes produce more liquid, this irrigates the cavities and cleans them up a little. But you can't run all day. Starting the day that way souds like a good idea. Also you could try sleeping with your head and upper body elevated a little. Well, that's all I can think of. Good luck! By the way, I love your car channel!

i've had that since birth. My coping techniques are blowing my nose as hard as I can every morning, and sometimes during the day after some vapours, or salt water spray up the nose. Not much one can do.

I had a sinus infection and it was below my eye next to my nose and I found ibuprofen helped as it lessened any related inflammation. Have you tried antihistamine?
    Just an idea.

I've tried antihistamine and it doesn't help. The problem with most drugs is long term use isn't a great idea.
