    Thanks for watching everyone!
    I'm thinking about doing a Q&A video. Comment here whatever questions you guys might have about me, my Ender 3, this printer, or my love life? My astrology sign? Anything... I'm very bored. Thanks!
    As promised here are some FAQs and updates:
    - Last updated 11/29/2020
    Q: Why put the prints in water for curing?
    A: Oxygen actually slows down resin curing under UV light so since water has less oxygen in it, prints can cure a lot faster. Water also refracts the UV light coming in giving you more consistent curing all-around your prints. The only downside is that water does absorb some UV light but apparently, the wavelength needed for curing isn't absorbed. I recommend watching this video that covers water curing more in-depth: th-cam.com/video/GN_Y2qx3ksg/w-d-xo.html if you want to learn more.

    • @KyleKatarn145
      @KyleKatarn145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Been looking into getting that OXO Container, but I noticed on your strainer's Thingiverse page that IPA causes that kind of plastic to crack and leak. Have you experienced this happening? If so, did you switch to an alternative?

    • @cravin4acupofcoffee
      @cravin4acupofcoffee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mayaquirino5976 really late comment but that's just unavoidable really. If you look closely even his print has a bad surface underneath the handle, but its a functional print so it doesn't need to look good. If you want the underside of a print to look good it's more advisable to change the print's orientation in your slicer, use supports, or cut the print in a 3d modeling software and print in pieces.

    A recommendation from an experienced resin printer is too have your printer near some ventilation source, whether it be a window or a custom ventilation system. I’m sure you’ve heard a lot about VOC’s since getting your resin printer and they build up around your home over time without proper ventilation and can cause all sorts of long term health defects and I can’t have that happening to such a good content creator!

    Totally using this food container wash station idea! For anyone that may not have Amazon Prime for whatever reason I found that Walmart has a Better Homes and Gardens line of air tight food containers that look very much like the OXO ones and they're a bit cheaper. Of course you'd have to modify the dimensions of Scott's STL to make it fit.

    Great setup! I'm planning on getting a resin printer next year. Fortunately I live somewhere with A LOT of sun throughout most of the year, so a curing device is not necessary for me. You might want to move your printer far away from your living area, though, because I've heard lots of reports that the fumes the resin gives off can make one nauseous when being exposed to them a lot and that sensitivity increases over time. Fortunately I have a spare bedroom that I use as storage space only and I'm going to set up my resin printer in there. If you don't have one (Seattle, right?) make sure to keep your windows wide open during printing and post-processing

      plug your printer into a computer running octoprint and have octoprint run the whole print, start to finish. it can add a command to move the print head all the way back like that and trigger a camera, so it takes a bit longer and you have to leave your computer on and plugged in the whole time, but just google "octoprint timelapse" and you'll get all the instructions you need :)

    damn scott. your videos are just amazing.
    be careful with nitrile gloves: some resins or organic solvents penetrate nitrile gloves in seconds, and while your hands are sweating inside the gloves, the open pores absorb whats coming through the gloves even better. butyl gloves are the solution here, even though they are less convenient due to thickness.
    also black light LEDs but be way too weak in the needed wavelength band. if you need a stronger UV light source, try the lamps that are used in tanning beds for the facial tanner. those work great, but produce quite some heat.
    keep up the great stuff!!!!

    I haven't checked values but is that glass and water transparent to UV light wavelength you are using? As normal glass stops majority of the UV from the Sun. Laboratory glass is somehow different, but mostly to deal with big temperature changes - when UV transparent stuff is required, it is made of special glass.

    • @ScottYuJan
      @ScottYuJan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      from what i’ve read online, most glass blocks a lot of UV light but not TOO much and since the water inside does it’s refracting thing, it kinda cancels each other out? i mean my curing time is like half of what it used to be without the water so i’m definitely getting a good cure. not sure if the beaker i’m using is laboratory glass or not though. might be! but i have also used just ikea glass cups too before i got this beaker and that still worked very effectively.

  • @Trueflights
    @Trueflights 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the advantage of water curing vs just putting the model under UV lights? This is actually the first time I've seen anyone mention putting the model in water before putting it under the UV, so I'm curious.

    Olá, já tinha vistos os seus videos há algum tempo e gostei muito. tenho uma LD-002R que infelizmente não consigo fazer trabalhar bem. Quando a comprei, há cerca de 4 anos, tive logo problemas, a caixa vinha danificada e faltavam acessórios, tentei falar com a loja e o que obtive foi um gozo pela minha pessoa da parte da loja. Fiquei muito triste e por isso coloquei a impressora de lado, certas impressões tinhas falhas e quando estava a imprimir dava saltos... Acontece que agora olho para ela e gostaria de a por a funcionar... Pode dar-me dicas de como fazer todas as configurações e pequenos "truques" que possam ajudar a minimizar o problema? Obrigado.

    9/10 good tips but cold you put the wash thing in stead the light box of the water tube?? I know photopolymer chemistry science can be very tricky. Theoretically you could make resin with any monomer and a photoinitater like Elmer's glue and tumeric but the tumeric would very in ratio depending on "quality" and be measured on parts per million. I'm just saying have you tried it?
