There are many different methods to separating the taillight lens from the housing. I found heating them slightly and then cutting them to be the most effective way for me personally.
@@warnerbu7lt for one Thankyou for responding, for two I really don’t know if you mentioned what you used or not, when I watched the video there was a lot going on, but Thankyou man, I have these same taillights brand and all
You can do either, I just heated them to soften everything which made it easier. Some lenses can be separated without the need to cut them, just depends on the brand of lights and how they’re made.
@@javonsedwards no, but there are photos on my IG. They’re pretty dark tbh.. if I was to do them again, I would tape off a small centre strip to allow some light to come through for nighttime driving.
Thanks man! Heating them up isn't absolutely necessary, however I found it allowed the plastic to soften a bit which made it easier to cut through with my dremel.
Thanks Tanner, the paint that I used was actually a textured trunk/toolbox paint which has built-in adhesion promoter and doesn’t require primer before hand. If I was using regular or automotive paint and looking for a smooth glass like finish, I would strongly suggest scuffing the surface with scotch pads, using some sort of adhesion promoter and priming prior to applying your top coat.
I just bought these tails and tried doing the oven thing and I snapped the corner..I plan on painting a lip around the lense so hopefully you won’t tell but now I’m going to cut them like you did
Unfortunately if you want true spyder branded tail lights, you’ll have to pay over $200. Also, I’d advise staying away from cheaper “eBay” lights as you’ll likely have LED’s fail in under 6 months. Just my 2 cents..
I can do these really clean without cutting into them man! 👍🏼 I got some vids but there way back there 😂 But hey good job doing it yourself man. Not a lot of folks will. I own and run a retrofit shop.
I know this is an older video but dang those lights/paint turned out amazing and look super cool on that truck! Huge inspiration for me!
Appreciate it man! 👊🏼
Do you have a picture or something that shows where you cut the back of the taillight?
Can you show us we’re cut at
Really wanted to see them with the lights on ! Great vid anyway
Two years ago look awesome a little bit different color but it looks good like that good idea I'm gonna do something like that on my van
Do you need to cut them? Or will they separate by baking them and picking at it ?
There are many different methods to separating the taillight lens from the housing. I found heating them slightly and then cutting them to be the most effective way for me personally.
I know I’m late but I appreciate you being so detailed, great video.
Thanks Mike, I appreciate it!
That’s just incredible man….. for sure doing this for my 3rd gen mega cab 👍🫡 thank you sir for video and instructions
Thanks man. Just be aware that with tinting the C bar, it does make your brake lights significantly darker.
@@warnerbu7lt no problem bud and I’m not going to be tinting the c bar, just color matching them 🫡
Wow, those look incredible..Great job!
Thank you!
What color is this wrap it looks so nice
Did you scuff anything other than the lense? And what did you use to re-seal the lights?
Scuff everything with a scotch pad. I used RTV sealant linked below the video.
@@warnerbu7lt for one Thankyou for responding, for two I really don’t know if you mentioned what you used or not, when I watched the video there was a lot going on, but Thankyou man, I have these same taillights brand and all
Question here, why bake them if you are cutting them?
It softened the glue a little bit and made it easier to cut through. Also the heat made it easier to pull apart once it was ready.
Aren't these illegal now since you painted over the reflectors?
Yes, but what isn’t illegal to do these days haha
You gotta show it with the lights on lol. Looks absolutely sick tho man good job beautiful duramax
How u know u if u can heat it up or cut it to separate them
You can do either, I just heated them to soften everything which made it easier. Some lenses can be separated without the need to cut them, just depends on the brand of lights and how they’re made.
@ thanks for ur time buddy
Crazy price ! Looks great !
This is an old video, but that was a great video! And they turned out dope!
Appreciate it man! 🤘🏽
@@warnerbu7lt yessir! Definitely earned a sub!!
Where did you get your headlights? Taillights look super clean btw
What’s the wheel setup you have?
22x12 with 33”s
awesome did you use epoxy for sealant
I used a black RTV sealant that has been incredible, no condensation at all
@@warnerbu7lt cool do you have a video of the tail lights illuminated
@@javonsedwards no, but there are photos on my IG. They’re pretty dark tbh.. if I was to do them again, I would tape off a small centre strip to allow some light to come through for nighttime driving.
Ok thanx
Did you install the shocks on the tailgate ?
Yessir! It's the Deezee tailgate shock, only $25 and worth every penny!
Did you had to cook them or just cut them instead of heating them ? Lights came out sick!
Thanks man! Heating them up isn't absolutely necessary, however I found it allowed the plastic to soften a bit which made it easier to cut through with my dremel.
Ahh got you thanks mann keep it up bro 💪
@@warnerbu7lt first timer here, what part are you cutting?
What’s the name of the color on the truck?
What did u use to seal it?
Permatex black adhesive sealant. It did a phenomenal job.
Looks great man do a video with them lit up
Where’d u order the tail lights from? I find a ton on Amazon but there never spyder branded
I got mine from TDot Performance in Canada. But CARID carries them in the states also!
Bro that looks crazy good such a big difference. 👀🙏🏼
Right!? It’s seriously one of my favourite mods on the truck right now. Absolute game changer!
@@warnerbu7lt can’t believe I might be putting taillights or headlights in the oven lol but dude sick truck crazy build keep up the good work!
How do they look lit up now.
Where can I get those LED - lights at
Where can I get some of those LED dashboard lights at
That looks awesome!!
Appreciate it!
no hate at all they look great but why no scuffing or primer? are you worried the paint will flake at all?
Thanks Tanner, the paint that I used was actually a textured trunk/toolbox paint which has built-in adhesion promoter and doesn’t require primer before hand.

What's your paint code man? It's a nice color might paint my truck to it.
I just bought these tails and tried doing the oven thing and I snapped the corner..I plan on painting a lip around the lense so hopefully you won’t tell but now I’m going to cut them like you did
Yeah they’re sealed really tight, the only way to get them open is by cutting them.
@@warnerbu7lt what glue did you use to seal them and how are they holding up
@@Jp_5ive3hree I used black RTV silicone by Permedex and it’s been flawless, absolutely no condensation or dust issues.
Awesome video. It be cool if you put links to products . Only constructive criticism I can add awesome video
Yo that looks real nice beautiful work
Much appreciated!
What’s the color of that wrap bro?
Satin grey
Ahhhhh shittt yep super dooper clean man damn ..
Wish you would of shown the lights on to see how it effected the brightness....
Any tint or smoked effect will hinder the overall visibility of the DRL..
Came out nice!!
Appreciate it! 👍🏽
they look awesome. whats your wheel and tire setup?
Do a headlight video how to install please
Anyone have a link for these tails not trying to pay over 200

I used black permetex rtv silicone
you need to make a driving video or tuner video i love the videos and truck keep it up
you can’t paint over the reflectors that makes it illegal the chrome is ok and everything else is ok but the reflectors are illegal
How are you going to see the halo running light since it’s painted?
It’s not painted it’s tinted
U should’ve left the white led white to match the front ones
I did actually end up redoing the tail lights when I rewrapped the truck and left them clear (white). Both styles looked equally great imo!
Should of put pods in since you already had them open
Right?! We will see about that on the current build
Cutting them wasn't necessary but they look good
How else can I open them up
@@lowlifesrt4828should just heat them and pry
