I walk daily with my ridgebacks, into the woods,down by the stream, back through the woods, and down the driveway and back up. They are always alert, checking out smells and looking around for anything. Absolutely love it. As for the crate, never used one. My dogs are lucky to have a doggie door and an enclosed,huge yard. If they get bored or anxious,they go outside. Since I have more than 1, they're never lonely. At an early age,I would always have to leave and I gradually increased my time away. Never had a chewing issue. I can see where the crate would be useful to others.
Literally requires to be done every day. Seriously folks, my 4 dogs have benefited so much by following Mr Athertons rules for dog training. If I can find the time daily to do this work with 4 dogs, anyone can squeeze in these important steps for their dog(s).

Had my pup for 5 weeks now, crate training is going great and we’re now over 3 weeks without an accident in the house. The chewing is driving me nuts but I also know that with consistency on our part and a bit of time, that will pass. However the one thing we’re really struggling with is walking to heel, my goodness she loves to pull and all the commands she’s learning seem to go out of the window once we’re out. I’m trying different leads and all the recommended exercises (direction changes, rewarding engagement etc) and she just isn’t getting it. But we will persevere and fingers crossed it’ll improve.

We've been together a few months, I have no history on her. She's adapting beautiful to her new surroundings but clearly she was not socialized with other animals. Yes my dogs are walking so much better with me by my side.No more pulling me down the road.I use a whistle and treats when they are off leash it works and my dogs stay close to me and enjoy their free time as I keep a close eye on them.😊🐕💟
I feel you on the bridge and water comment. Cooper,my 3 yr old GSD / Austraian shepherd mix thinks he HAS to be first out the back door. The front door he doesnt do that. He understands wait but ignores it at the back door. I try to stay off to the side not to get knocked down. Back to drawing board.

I see on some other videos he's advertising his course, so I guess that's the whole crux of these. Here's what you should do, but you need to pay if you want to find out how.
he has many videos that go into depth how to do each one of these things. you must be new here, but his methods are explained in older videos. you just have to scroll down a bit and you can find videos for teaching dogs how to walk to heel, crate training videos, and everything else in the video. no need to pay for his courses.
We have a six year old male Airedale and a 16 week old female standard Poodle. The Poodle is SO much less stubborn and is great on recall and is picking up heeling very well. I may try to train her to retrieve grouse. The Airedale has a very hard mouth and will fetch, catch, and then destroy.
For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕
Our German Shepherd dog hates going in his crate on the evening as he knows he is going to be left for a long period through the night. So much that he bent the crate door outwards and escaped three times. We now have to put 4 carabiners around the door to stop his getting out
Have you tried giving him a special treat that he gets only when he’s in the crate? Our dog LOVES to go to sleep in his crate at night. He gets 1/2 of a pig’s ear when he goes in for bed. Good luck!
@@papabear2515 Would be reluctant to give him something like a pig's ear to go to bed with on an evening as I prefer to watch or be close by when he's eating things like that in case he starts choking or something.
@ if you haven’t watched Will’s crate training video - it’s very good! Our rescue boy (1+ years) came to us as non-crate dog. He now has no hesitation to go in it at night to sleep whatsoever. Also, he will even choose to go into his crate on his own at times during the day - to just lay there on his bed or take a nap, etc. We are so thrilled! Good luck to you!
I personally hate seeing dogs in cages. Ok to train for short periods like in the video for car journeys. Especially bad for guarding breeds like GSDs …how can they guard / do thier job if locked in a cage for a long period of time? 😢 no wonder he hates going in it!
@@MarcieHarding So how do you explain Police and Military dogs being kept in cages and if Police dogs in Uk they have to be kept outside in summer and winter conditions. Do you think thats right? Putting your dog in a crate in the home to sleep at night is not cruel.
I remember years ago when I saw your video about a Weimaraner. About a year later I got a weim puppy and he's now 2 years old. What an amazing dog, however I wish I could help train him to his level of intelligence which can be hard since he can be quite stubborn.
Easy to walk your dog every day if ya actually get off work when the sun is up. I go to work sun is barely up and get home after dark. Live in the country so no sidewalk or well lit roads.
My boy has such a bad sniffing problem while heeling. All those smells are glorious to him. I've been consistent and he knows a "break" command when he's able to sniff. The fact that he's an intact 16 months old doesn't help, LOL. Just eight more months before he gets neutered. Phew
Just had my agility foundations class and the instructor was talking about when she had a Beagle. Roast beef was the key for the beagle - kept his nose up and focused on her rather than the ground. Check out Baebae's training if you're interested in possibly competing in Nose Work. She's an actual judge and even her puppies are getting titles. Hope that helps.

If you can't work from home or take your dog to work, it's hard. Depending on your location, there could be a doggy day-care somewhere but that's expensive. I feel for you because I grew up with dogs, love them, get along great with almost every dog I meet and ache to have a dog. But even though I am retired, I have always lived in an apartment and I just don't think it's fair on a dog to keep them mostly indoors. I'd want a garden for the dog to be outside in nature as well as a doggie companion so there's never the issue of the one dog being alone during the hours I'm away doing my volunteer work and other things. Then there's also the time when I travel, which is not often but the dogs would need care. So while singles having dogs is really good for the human, I worry it would not be good enough for the dog, at least according to how I feel about a good life for a dog. 😢
You train WITH equipment on. I've always trained my own dogs since I was little. I like how he doesn't emphasize 'heel'... I don't train mine to a certain position, like I know some trainers say you should. My goal is that they can walk at my side, loose leash, when I want them 'with me'... They have a command for their being able to, as I put it, 'read all the neighborhood bulletin boards', where, they can explore a bit, but no pulling, suddenly taking off, disturbing my gait, etc... I always started from when they can first go on the ground, here in the US (around 4 months old.... I did train in backyard, but it's not quite the same, with distractions). But now I'm physically disabled, chronic pain,, got a rescue (had been badly abused the 1st year of her life), Australian Kelpie X, realized how smart she was, so trained her to be my Service Dog. She was fantastic! Then, one night at the grocery store, someone's unleashed Belgian Malinois, went after her TWICE (!!!), and ever since, if she even sees a teeny dog, being held, she lunges, snarling, barking, growling. I've totally got her in hand, she's not getting away from me. But, I've been unable, so far, to train her out of this. It's like her attitude is, 'I'm going to get YOU, before you can get me!' I'm glad I found your videos, some good info there, that I've seen, so far!! Though, Shadow made me cry... And, why are dogs on the left? I've always trained mine to walk on my right, as that is my strong side, and, if they do break, during training, I know I can hold them, on that side.
@catherineolson4038 they are trained on the left either cos he's left handed or bc when the dog is in control he can do whatever he wants with his dominant hand. I think it stams from the police training their dogs on their non dominant hand so they can sh00t or really do anything when needed and the dog isn't in the way
your teach them with equipment. Small steps. Heel training 3 steps at a time, the bring into sit, start in your apartment, then move to a busier place. Increase the step count step by step. Celebrate small wins, lower your expectations. Incremental steps, consistently over time, taught with kindness and not violence so your dog can trust you in a relaxed manner. That’s all 😊
I feel you! inside the house mine is my shadow! I hate being the treat dispenser but they are in my pocket all the time. My outside coat has her favorite chew toy which only comes out when I work recall in the yard. She doesn't look at me so that is what I am working on atm if she isn't in heel she can't see me so she doesn't get a treat or a 'good girl' good luck keep working on it

We will get there in the end ,I will keep trying to we nail it . He pulls to go see other dogs too but we had him at puppy classes before the silly dog ban came into force

We've had a couple inside dog's that are now 2 years old and roam our house freely. Is it too late to crate train them? They have a really bad habit in tearing up leather sofas, pillows, blankets and pretty much anything else.

I've seen at least one of his videos that includes impulse control via the "leave it" command. Try searching that instead?
