Grazie mille ciao Pietro

i had the 'max distance' thing on my mini 3 set to 1 kilometer thinking i wont ever need to fly more than 1 kilometer away.. went on a bikeride and had it track me on a 'follow me' and was biking home.. was aiming to land on the deck by my parents house, but that was about 5 meters too far for it.. it was fun.. the roof of my car was close enough and landed there.. turned that thing off right after..

Great content and explanation, I’d like to share something: I’ve flown drones from boats as photographer and also because I’m sailboat captain. Two of the most important things I learned was: if you can take off with the boat detained and land it same way, you’ll avoid many headaches. Once it’s flying, hoist the sails will take less than 3 minutes on 40-50 feet long or shorter vessels, and the visibility is better without sails, either to start flying or to get the drone back. The other tip would be: “turn off the radar” it’s a pain and could create some interference. Salut !

We insist the catcher wears eye protection - really important when catching a drone from a fast moving yacht (we can't always slow the boat to recover our drone). The Phantom 3's & Phantom 4 Pros are the ultimate drones for short handed sailors. Troy & Pascale from @FreeRangeLiving attached a stiff piece of old halyard with velcro to their Mavic, which worked really well - and is free.

Hello congratulations for this interesting video I wanted to ask you for this information I tried to take off from the boat in the middle of the sea but the drone does not give me the ok to take off it keeps telling me low GPS signal even though there are 15 or 16 satellites when I go back to mooring at the anchored wharf and stationary inside the marina instead it gives me almost immediately ready to fly it's ready to fly what could have happened because I can't take off while I'm with the boat in the middle of the sea? Thanks bye

Could be the location you are launching from on the boat?
There may be some interference from a device in the location the drone is launching from ... Just my guess.

Wish i watch your video a lot sooner. I didn't have anyone to release and catch my Mavic 2 zoom while i was filming a vessel during its sea trial. Taking off and landing while the vessel was testing its top speed around 20+knot was madness.
Taking off wasn't that bad compare to landing it. But it still dangerous, it will take off and went strait off the back of the stern and above the water, if u have something obstructing, it's gonna be a disaster. luckily the helipad got only a 3ft fencing, so a fast vertical speed will allow u to go over the fence instead of into it. BUT! only if u have enough clearance like a helipad. for a small boat, u gonna need to hand launch it.
Oh ya, i was struggling the the 'IMU redundancy' issue, block the drone from locking onto the gps, get the prop rotating then only u're good to go.
Remember, if the boat/vessel is moving, u got to straight away move you drone to match the boat speed, then only it will 'seems' like hovering on the moving boat.
Upon landing, the drone will somewhat drifting on the helipad, thinking the ground is stationary, which it's not, the ground(vessel) was moving at 20knot, luckily the helipad was large enough, allowing the prop to fully stop after drifting about 10-15ft. NEVER try these if u don't have space large enough, get someone to catch it like being shown in the video, just follow the video advise, u'll be much safer.
Even though no drone or bank account were harm, I'll definitely go with your advise, get a glove and give it to someone to catch it. Having someone to assist the take off and landing really makes a huge different. Thanks for advise man, u're saving a lot of drone operators from loosing their beloved drones and wonderful footages.

Great and instructive video. I've been flying from boats for a while, and yes, landing is the struggle. I still prefer to use the Phantom 4 at sea, simply because the screen interface is better with Go than with Fly. It's also easier to grab than most other drone, but those propellers are really powerful. I once had to land it on an 18' speedboat in choppy seas. Not fun.

Excellent content Andre! Wondering if you feel that paying more $$ to get a "waterproof" drone like the PowerEgg X or the SplashPro is worth it? Also the "follow me" feature seems like an important one for people who are trying to both sail and film at the same time.

I'm surprised you don't add just enough flotation material so that it won't totally sink. I see so many guys lose their drones when just a bit of super lightweight foam would make it recoverable. Have you tried this before?

    • @andrecarmo2026
