    There is a ton of bad information out there about boating with drones but this one is excellent. I learned a lot. Thanks for posting!

    Instead of turning return to home off, you can set a dynamic home point so that the AC uses your current controller GPS location as home.

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thats a great idea, I will look into that. Im not sure how to make that setting on a MA. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!

    • @Beniamin1968
      @Beniamin1968 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you sure that will be dynamic along the controller while you are moving?
      It would be great

    • @JonathanJacobsTech
      @JonathanJacobsTech 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Beniamin1968 I believe it updates the home every 2 seconds based on the controller location. However, once RTH is triggered, the home point will no longer be updated. The AC will return the the last home point before the RTH was triggered .

    Have been considering getting an RC aircraft of sorts for a while now. Purchasing a drone seems to be much less expensive, and somewhat expendable considering the price (beginner kit $200).
    Building an RC airplane or chopper would take some time and be devastating if lost/destroyed.
    Seeing what can be done with a drone is beyond impressive and the beautiful footage that can be captured and shared is a win/win (the POV channel - impossible geometry at Grand Canyon - 5M+ views).
    Great info and solid reviews under comments has convinced me that going with a drone would be the most fun, versatile, and lead to other ventures/hobbies/income as the possibilities seem endless.
    Thanks for the inspiration!
    * Careful with the digits and don't look up 'Ace' RC helo pilot accident resulting in decapitation. Better off watching Arnold in 'The Running Man' battling the hockey goalkeeper.

    You can fly over national parks, just cannot land or takeoff within a national park

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you are correct. Some may consider launching off the boat not actually launching off park grounds because the drone technically did not touch any part of the park. Not sure how that explanation would be received by a Park Ranger though. I just play it safe and do not fly in the Park boundaries, especially considering how much footage I post online. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@JoeOceanside yes that is interesting, I am not sure I've ever seen anything saying yay or nay about that specific scenario from a boat, but like you said better safe than sorry, and a lot of people enforcing drone laws unfortunately don't know the actual law either

      How are you going to get that Memorial Day / 6 on 6 / Naked Sasquatch / Beach volleyball footage in a state/national park if you don't take chances?!
      The Park Ranger would be more than understanding if you cut him in ($) when it goes viral....gotta take chances in life to get ahead (punny!).

  • @bradleyrupska4988

    Thank you so much!! I have a Air 2s and getting ready to take it out on the boat. When the weather is better in Saint Petersburg Florida. I also have drone floats to keep the drone on top of the water in case it lands or needs to land on water!! I would also advise getting anti cut gloves to hand launch or hand land a drone. My Air 2s has almost cut my finger tip off while trying to hand land it!!!

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool, you mean like kitchen knife gloves? thats actually a good idea

    • @bradleyrupska4988
      @bradleyrupska4988 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I am a electrician so we use cut resistant gloves everyday. I use cut resistant construction gloves to launch and catch my Air 2s. That is after almost getting my fingertips cut off in a high wind landing situation.

    This is a really useful video. It would be good to also include updating the home point in case the drone is lost. That has happened to me. Also, the using the map is different when you're a long way away from the home point. All I had to do in that case was to zoom out and there was the drone. Great tips, thank you very much.

    Great vid. Ive just started flying my drone fro my boat (a dji magic pro). Best thing i did was purchase a grab handle so that the props don't cut my finger tips. Also noticed that if i grab the handle and tip the drone upside down it automatically turns off like your method.

    Hello, excuse me , i dont know if this issue has been already discussed, i mean when drone is following your boat for a mile and battery will be empty to the point of RTH , what happens it will go back from where you started or get back where you actually are ?

    • @JoeOceanside
      @JoeOceanside  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      at 2:34 I talk about this, If you are moving in the boat you should turn off RTH, or the drone will attempt to fly back to where you originally launched from. Thanks for watching

    When launching from a boat, anyone else experience the error message "strong magnetic interference" which ultimately prevents the drone from taking off? I've not been able to take off from my 27' boat because of this. Seems no matter where I stand on the boat it won't take off due to this magnetic interference.
