  • I've been watching the age of empires forums recently and I've noticed that there are rumors of a DLC for the 25th anniversary. There is no doubt that sooner or later there will be a patch or an update and there is a great possibility for the addition of new civilizations. With that in mind, today we are going to take a look at which civs are most anticipated by the players and how possible is that we are going to see them in game.
What are you thoughts on them?

American civs are really under represented right now, however I would go with the Purepecha and the Chimu. Really agree with the renaming of the Slavs to Rus. If it was up to me, I'd also split the Celts to Welsh, Irish and Scots... But then again Vikings and Italians could also be split to additional civs...

I do think the new DLC is going to be in the East Asia region. It’s long overdue for a DLC of its own, with campaigns for the Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans. I do see the Khitans, Jurchens, and Tibetans being added as new civs. For all the ones you covered I think the Slavs could be split into so many civs. A Balkan DLC with the Wallachians, Croats, and Serbs would be great; alongside a Russian one with the Rus, Novgorodians, and Muscovites is doable.

The "Chinese split" is people getting the wrong end of the stick. It's not about changing the Chinese, it's about adding other civs around them that currently use the Chinese during campaigns, because there's nobody else.
It's also mixed up by people not understanding that AoE2 civs are based on cultures/ethnic groups, not actual empires. So some people suggest to split them into the "Tang, Song, Ming" etc, which is not how the game works.

Well well if the political were not to be considered, the Burgundians would never have been split from the franks ; and we could argue the same for the Sicilians/normands as basically, the Normandy duchy and its multiple warmongers were an emanation of the Frankish kingdoms (hence the crusaders having no issues to gather all together, may they be people of the HRE or from the French kingdom)

I would split Slavs as it doesn't make sense to have - Poland, Bohemia, Bulgaria, and then Slavs like these three nations are also Slavs. Renaming Slavs to Kievan Rus and adding one or two more Slavic nations. bro Europe has like 90 civilizations in every single corner of the continent, stretching in time from the romans (0 AC) to the byzantine to the italians (1860 AC) and everything in between including many niche states. You cant say 4 civilizations have covered all the entire of African civilization across nearly 2000 years of history , the berbers (amazigh people) were mostly nomadic and never made any formal long lasting settlements anyway. If Europe can recieve such a specific attention to detail for kingdoms and states i dont think its fair to say "1 north 1 south 1 east 1 west" yup we've got civs for all of 30,365,000 square km of Africa, plus considering most aoe2 civs can have pretty questionable history with certain civs going into imp or existing in dark age. I think we can be just as lenient with possible African civilizations. Awesome video though

I would love to see more American civs added. As for civ ideas, I'd throw out there:
a Pueblo/Anasazi civ - make them a boomy civ with a good farm bonus,
the Apache's - that could be a fun campaign fighting the Spanish, could have them be horseless like the Meso-civs but gain access to horses with a unique tech to reflect that they were the first American people to steal horses from the Spanish,
the Navajo - could make a fun campaign, reflecting their migration from the Artic circle to the Mojave desert,
the Natchez - more sea/water borne people, give them a good fishing bonus like getting gold from fish,
the Cherokee - one of the more famous Native American tribes, might not quite fit into the historical period of the game, but it'd be criminal not to include them,
and finally, I'd suggest the Comanche, the horse lords of the Great Plains, the first Native American tribe (at least in North America) to breed horses rather than just steal them from the Spanish, a people who picked up horse archery like it was nothing and ruled the American interior until the 1870s (again, maybe not the most historically relevant to the game, but could be a lot of fun).

    1. We need "Khazars" or in turkic "Hazars" they have a potencial chance to come to AOE II they have a huge history and they fight the most times against the arabs or Sarazens and make alliance with the byzantines against the arabs. The Khazars was a jewes turkic civilisation.
    2. I like the Serbian history and I think that was also a huge potencial AOE II civilisation the Serbs is also a Slavic civilisation with strong Cavalary they also have fights with Ottomans, Hungarian and other civilisation in the history. King Dusan was the great Serbian King in the 14 Century. But finaly its a Slavic civilisation that was keep in generall as a Slavs.
    3. I think one of the most problems in AOE II is that so many civilisations they was keep in generall for example Slavic (Russian, Ukrain, Serbs, Wallachian (Vlad Dracul is the game as a Slavic in AOEII) also the Turks combined as the Ottoman and Seljuks and sooooooo many other civilisation keep in generall if we split them in there own civilisation I dont know there is no special for me, for example if the Serbians or Wallachians came to AOE II they have the same tecnology tree as the Slavic but just a little bit better modified as the Slavic and for example look for Georgians there Slavic but better modifided as the Slavic civilisation is this much potencial we need for this game I dont know we all have a different opinion about this.:)

@@zxylo786Not bad at all. The Genoese can keep the Genoese Crossbowmen or just rename them into Pavisiers and also keep the condottieri. Venetians definitely need to have the galleass and the carroccio standard. If the Milanese were added Famiglia Ducale (heavy cavalry) would be the appropriate UU. Papacy would obviously have the Papal Lancers from AoE3 and the Swiss can have the reislaufer (Swiss pikemen).

I REALLY want to see a Chinese expansion and DLC. Like the Japanese, they are an original but the Japanese have been getting so many campaigns and historical battles while the Chinese don't even have their own campaign. What the heck.... As an American born Chinese, I grew up learning about so many of the dynasties from Chinese history. Having Qin Dynasty, Han, Song, Tangut/Jin and or Ming dynasty campaigns would be spectacular. And each dynasty was so unique.
