Great video and thank you for making this as it brought back some great memories of (for me) the greatest period in hip hop. I really wish MTV or whoever owns the rights would publish the episodes on a streaming service for us old heads to relive those glory days but sadly I don't think it will ever happen and I can't see a reboot having anywhere near the same appeal for all the reasons Dre mentioned.
That Grand Puba episode at 0:56 was the very first one I ever saw, back in '92, when a friend of mine recorded it for me, off his satellite TV, here in Liverpool, England. He went on to record every episode for me, until the show finished, almost 3 years later.
Yo! MTV Raps had its series finale ended on August 17, 1995. Numerous high-profile names in the world of hip-hop closed the show out with a freestyle rap session. Salt-N-Pepa holds the distinction of appearing on the first (technically, the first episode to feature Fab 5 Freddy) and last episodes of Yo! MTV Raps. From 1996 to 1999, MTV repackaged it as simply Yo! The repackaged version was far more stripped down. Yo! had a weekly slate of special guest hosts. For instance, Angie Martinez and Fatman Scoop served as its hosts. By 1998, Yo! had no guest hosts and became a one-hour program airing late Friday nights at 1 a.m. or 1:30 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time). In 2000, MTV's outlet for hip-hop videos became Direct Effect, known since 2006 as Sucker Free. It aired three times a week at around 7:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time). It is one of the few music video outlets for MTV besides its late-night/early-morning music video rotation hours, as MTV continues to focus on non-music video programming, especially reality television shows.
I'm sorry to say this but even if they do have a reboot yo MTV raps 30 years ago explained the culture this environment today and all those some people may say you can't say that actually you can it's not going to be the same it doesn't mean that they shouldn't try but honestly they should just leave it alone
I listen mostly to Rock, Alternative (80's and 90's), and Classic Rock. I have a heart for the Golden Age of Hip Hop and 80's/90's R&B. That being said, when people say that Rap "ruined" MTV, it angers me. Everyone has their own opinion, but still.
To be honest. It all came down to money. Think about it. They took a great show off the air. Then they repackage it and just called it Yo. Also they had various artist hosting the show from late 1995 to 1998 with Angie Martinez and Fatman scoop. In 1998, Yo official ended. Ed Lover had said it that there plan was to do 10 years. So from 1988 to 1998 was the actual plan. Ed even stated that had MTV keep them after 1995. Mtv would have to pay them the big money. So instead of not wanting to do any of that. They cancelled the show and took them off the air. That's the real story.
Misinformation. Rap city was first. Real hip hop culture watched rap city FIRST. Yo was a more hip hop light cause mtv FINALLY noticed bet was onto something. Those who were not there during specific eras need to ask their elders who are in the know.
Yo MTV rap been going on for 30 years that’s wassup but a lot of people streaming their music on TH-cam downloading music on iTunes. I don’t know it was good lasted, but things must come to an end.
😊Yo MTV RAPS is my childhood happy place that i would give anything to have back. The industry is a lie. Some old jewish guy at the label has the slightest problem with you and Your through you're career vanishes into nothihness and before long is forgotten and so are you. Facts Shit is wak.

There's a difference between Hip Hop and Rap which others still fail to acknowledge to this day
Please explain? 🙏🏽

Hello from Brasil , YO ! Mtv raps classico forever

You're right
To each his own; I don't feel a lot of present, hip-hop. Not the way I once did. Modern hip-hop is for the most part, hit-and-miss.
Still my favorite tv show of all-time

Misinformation. Rap city was first. Real hip hop culture watched rap city FIRST. Yo was a more hip hop light cause mtv FINALLY noticed bet was onto something. Those who were not there during specific eras need to ask their elders who are in the know.
Thank you for pointing that out. I appreciate the feedback.

HIP-HOP: What went wrong?
Thank god for Fab 5 creative thinking. Cuz his interviewing skills were straight garbage…
The reboot is not needed. Yo was great the music was great. The music now WTF…
Hell nah! This so called rap is CRAP!
it's all about getting the BAG! the "bag" messed up hip hop!
This show had good life span for being an mtv show/production, and outlived quite a few of it's network siblings
Yes, MTV was about making as much $ as possible first and foremost, all on air talent were extremely disposable to them
