    I have been trying to learn a handstand kickup from like a million calisthenics channels, yet none of them have such a simple kickup technique like this. Fantastic video and extremely useful!

    This is the first tutorial which tells you that you have failed if you hit the wall once launching into handstand - how true!! I just kept on launching and hitting, launching and hitting... failing miserably. However the clear instructions and technique details helped me stack correctly and I managed to hold for 3 seconds after these drills simply from this tutorial! Amazing. Thank you so much for this great teaching

    I couldn't kick up to the wall before i saw this tutorial. Now i can do it right after just two days practice following her instructions. One thing that helped me the most that you will have to keep your one leg straight while the other a foot in, a bit bent. I used to fold my legs while trying to kick up and that kept knocking me off-balance.

    Your video was one of the most helpful to learn to master handstands better and I have watched a lot. I am surprised you did not get more views, because you are very clear and very good at explaining - your advises are spot on. In fact you are the first person I see defining the wall as a "security" and introducing the intermediate fundamental step of "find your hip stack " which in fact lead you to finding the needed balance to achieve a handstand without necessarily needing the wall in the end. Thank you very much!

    Thank you for posting this tutorial. If I happen to kick up just right I can hold handstand for 20-25 seconds, but more often than not I'm lucky if I can hold it at all or only for 5-10 seconds. Is there an easy way to tell whether it's poor technique vs lack of arm, shoulder, back, and/or core strength? Are there any benchmarks or drills I can use to figure out whether I'm strong enough to consistently hold handstand?

    I started practicing hand stands a couple of months ago. I pushed with my left leg, but because of tightness in the hamstring I decided to practice using the right leg. It was cumbersome, until I figured out that I need to get my hips over my shoulders, and then it became very easy. I can now kick with either leg. You called it stacking the hips over the shoulders, and for me it was key.

    • @HonorYogaStudios
      @HonorYogaStudios  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Make sure you're not too close or too far away from the wall. So about one foot, or one and 1/2 hands distance away from the wall, press your shoulders away from the wall and shrug them up to your ears. Also, I too hit the wall with a slam when I first started. And once I was away from the wall I must have fallen out of handstand 1000 times! Practice and be patient and all is coming!!

    • @HonorYogaStudios
      @HonorYogaStudios  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you practicing leaning so that the shoulder stack over wrists before you kick up? That should help! Also, try some tuck jumps (will post a video soon) that will help train you to stack your hips!

    • @CathyMadeoYoga
      @CathyMadeoYoga 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you shift your shoulders over your wrists first? It does take some time to train your hips to go over your shoulders. A lot of that is fear and the best thing I can tell you is if you could get someone to spot you and take your hips up and stack them over your shoulders so you can feel it. Sorry for my late reply!

    This is one of the better handstand videos I've seen. However, I have a limitation that it doesn't address: my hamstrings are very tight, and I can't even get close to a 90-degree split with straight legs. In other words, the following leg goes up with the lead leg instead of "resisting." Any tips (other than work on hamstring flexibility)?

      sorry for my late reply. Yes, I have a tip for you! Instead of the l-shape, you will bend the bottom leg, thigh right into the chest, it's called a lightening bolt shape. Tight hamstrings don't have to limit you from handstand. Let me know if this helps!

      Thanks for that and I've actually started to address this in my recent tutorials on my page. You can bend the bottom leg instead of keeping it straight and think of bringing your thigh close into your chest. Hope this helps!

      Thanks for the adaptation! I'll definitely try that, and I'll check out your new tutorials. I've been working on hamstring tightness for years, with excruciatingly slow, almost imperceptible, progress. So many yoga teachers have told me that I need to improve my hamstring flexibility before I can work on [enter asana here]. It's refreshing to find someone like you who can help me progress within my limitations. Much appreciated!

      @@h2olog it can definitely take some time to unlock. I've found to think of not just the hamstrings, but that your whole back line could be tight from soles of feet, calves, hamstrings, glutes, low back. Yin was a game changer for me. I used to be very tight and it really opened me up and now flexibility actually feels good! lol :)
