    I always appreciate when people take the time to create detailed reviews. In this case, although there was a lot of valuable information about connection/power options, I don't see it as an overall review especially since none of the feature menus were reviewed, nor the actual real-life performance, which you may be planning for a later video. Perhaps a retitling to indicate the main focus of the review would be helpful for people seeking various options for power sources and connections.

      Thanks for the feedback! It was originally intended to be a review, but after the initial installation and set up, I had no reason to dive into the camera or app again (at least until there's an accident) and there wasn't a real use case for me to use the remote connection...so I felt like it wasn't a compelling thing to show.
      It's been two months of using the camera so I'll post a follow up video and discuss my conclusions: the "parking guard" hasn't captured anything useful, and every time I get in the car and close the door it registers as an event but as the recording faces forward, its pretty useless.
      The cam also registers driving over speed bumps as collisions. The unit also gives redlight cams and lane departure warnings, on-screen...but I don't ever bust through red lights to need the former, and my car features lane keep assist so I don't need the latter.

    Wow! Interesting product by Garmin 👀 folks have been seeking out some 24/7 solutions for a while now. Though tbh, I've been a big fan of the Dongar Technologies adapter ever since the installation on my CX-5 🤙

    Found this looking for reviews on the Garmin Tandem which I feel is the single biggest waste of money ive ever spent. My fault i got trigger happy and trusted a major brand to have better interconnectivity, but it has ruined my desire to get another garmin product. Great video none the less. Thanks

    Can you use two of these with LTE alerts on the same account app? One for front and one for rear, but you can access either can remotely and get alerts from either via one account in app? Obviously fine with paying for two subscriptions.

    Do you have to be near the camera in order to access the videos on the camera or can you do it remotely because of the LTE activation? We're looking at different dash camera options for our semi truck and I often have to be able to remote in and pull video. Thanks in advance!

    I have this exact dash cam & my question is do I always have to press the bottom button for it to record because anytime I want a footage of what’s happening I have to press a button for it to record. Please help me out

    • @pistonburner6448
      @pistonburner6448 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, of course, that's the way dash cams work: it always records but it overwrites it all the time and only permanently stores the footage if you tell it to (naturally it records from before you pressed the button to slightly after).
      But you don't have to press the button if you have voice controls activated, then you can also alternatively just say: "Hey Garmin, save video" and it will do the same as if you'd have pressed the button.

    I’m concerned about the internal battery. Other Garmin dash cam use capacitors. Why lithium battery for all their dash cams with built in display instead of super capacitor. That would reduce the product lifespan dramatically when that battery no longer hold charge and being exposed to the sun makes it even worse. -thoughts?

    As much as I like Garmin dash cams (I had 45w), I think it's a bit overpriced. 500 dollars for basically one added functionality, no rear dash cam and 10 dollars monthly to be able to use the Vault. That's much more than Blackvue (free plan), Thinkware (free plan) and basically any other dash cam manufacturer offers for the cloud.

    • @easymemesniper
      @easymemesniper  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you using the app or connecting it to the computer? Did it upload the footage to the Garmin Drive app, maybe?

    • @pistonburner6448
      @pistonburner6448 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to press the button after the incident for it to save it. Or you can use voice controls to tell it to record the incident.
      If you don't do anything it of course won't save anything, it'll very soon overwrite it. You might still have the video file on the SD card (it's divided into the "incident"-marked events you've stored for safekeeping and the normal constantly recorded footage which is then overwritten)

      Makes no difference, you're not supposed to connect it to any of your own devices. It literally could be any proprietary connection, you don't need to mess with it at all after you've connected the factory-supplied cable to it.

    • @pistonburner6448
      @pistonburner6448 ปีที่แล้ว

      As for so many others with the very strange complaint: who cares which connection it has as YOU are not supposed to be hooking anything up it than the cables which are supplied in the package. It's NOT meant for you to connect anything, you don't need that port for your own use.
      Just use the SD-card or the cloud features.

    • @Boogiebagflipper
      @Boogiebagflipper ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pistonburner6448 that does not change the fact that it’s completely antiquated and old. And across the globe there’s literally laws being put into place to make one universal standard. It’s common fing knowledge. The days of fragmentation when it comes to different charges and in this case completely old standards are going away. So yes, it’s still stupid to implement this “old tech”. Next base and Vantrue, not very big names in the game are doing it. There’s no reason why the bigger guys can’t adopt it too other than laziness.

    • @pistonburner6448
      @pistonburner6448 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Boogiebagflipper No, you are wrong. The laws about one standard are for phones, and the idea is since you need to charge your phone on the go or use all kinds of accessories they should be compatible no matter where you connect it or what you want to connect it to.
      That does not apply at all for this dash cam which doesn't need various chargers or accessories to be compatible: it's meant to ONLY be plugged into the car for "permanent installation" using the power source which is provided by Garmin when you buy it.
      This is NOT a mobile device, and is NOT meant to be plugged into all kinds of different devices/chargers all the time.
      You just plug it into the car's system and use that FOREVER. You don't handle the data using the micro-USB, you use either the cloud/connectivity or the SD-card.
      Micro-USB is BETTER in this camera since it is SMALLER. It's ONLY role here is to connect it to the car's power and since any connection can do that it's best to use not only the smallest connector possible but also the kind of connector which can have that angle'd feature! USB-C would be WORSE as it would mean a bulkier and non-angled connector in your line of sight blocking more of your windshield, and would improve nothing.
      I have used an older Garmin model (2 of them: one in the front and one in the rear) for years, and I've 'installed' them to a few different cars already. You NEVER need to use that micro-USB for anything but the Garmin-supplied power source...especially now with this new model's LTE connectivity.

      @@pistonburner6448 it’s not just about phones you derelict. Lookup laws in the EU. It’s a thing. Cry about it.

    • @pistonburner6448
      @pistonburner6448 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Boogiebagflipper I just proved you totally wrong, comprehensively. Deal with it.
      This is NOT a mobile device, NOT meant to be connected to hundreds of different things. It could literally be a fixed cable, but it's nice to have it separate so you can change it if it gets damaged.
      It's not meant to be constantly connected to DIFFERENT cables or devices, it's meant to be connected to the ONE cable you install in your car and doesn't need to be detached at all necessarily.
