    My Son in law, bought me one after my car was almost stolen twice.
    My husband bought one as well. We love it!
    After I received it, some moron attempted to steal my car, but thankfully, i heard the alert on my phone. I got a video and turned it into the police.
    I also love the fact that it records in case of an accident, I have video ❤

    I bought two. We only use one bc my SO isn’t the most techy. I like it, it’s easy to install and pulling up footage is so easy. Quality isn’t the best but it’s better than nothing. When my SO was having phone trouble I communicated with them via the ring app while they were driving - it’s cool! I’m hoping they prefect the design and make more.

    I was able to get my hands on one on eBay, and I love it. The video quality is not the best, but it gets the job done, I still think the price of the camera with the subscription fee is bananas tho

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice! Yeah definitely a interesting dash cam. I do think cloud cameras have not taken off because of the subscription model and the only one I see that avoid this is Thinkware with their Thinkware Cloud, here is how that works th-cam.com/video/BAEH4f2ulEs/w-d-xo.html the downside is that the user has to provide their own internet connection. However since some vehicles already come with a hotspot from factory I can see that for those cases it would make sense. Cheers!

    A perfect dash cam is the one that always records everything (using its own internet, of course) and where all the footage can be accessed through the cellphone app at any time. Ring dash cam was indeed on track to become what people always wanted, simplicity, reliability, and a 24/7 access to video recordings using nothing but their cellphone app.

    Hi sir as always I appreciate all your videos/reviews....
    I'd like to get your recommendation on a dash cam I'm shopping for my highlander....front ,cabin and back also if possible cloud storage and GPS preferably mirror cams ...again I know your recommendation would be on point...thanks much.

      Thank you! Ah if you are looking for a cloud dash cam, the choices are very limited, since we lost Ring that leaves us with Nexar, Thinkware, Blackvuew and Viofo. Here is the review for Nexar th-cam.com/video/EBLvq2X2SwQ/w-d-xo.html and Thinkware th-cam.com/video/BAEH4f2ulEs/w-d-xo.html For 70mai, cloud functionality is limited to certain countries with USA unfortunately not being one of them. And I have more dash cam reviews on my channel in the playlist "Dash Cams Reviews" if you like to compare them. Cheers!

    Another option for a cloud connected dashcam is Blackvue. They have dash cams that come with LTE built in. I’ve had the Dr750x 2-channel LTE plus for a few years now and it has been great. Not sure how it compares to Nexar but I’m sure both are good options.
    I did think the ring was overpriced for what it was but I was thinking it was going to get better as time went on.

      Hi Spencer and thanks for reminding me! I totally forgot about Blackvue, will see if I can add a review of one of their models on the channel. But yeah definately I think the Ring dash cam had potential to evolve (specially because I can't stand having an different App for everything, having a single security App for both home and car made sense to me) Cheers!

    Can't say I'm overly surprised to hear this news. Upon first sight the Ring dash cam didn't appeal to me much mainly due to how it was meant to be installed. It's essentially out there plain as the nose on one's face, which I feel the majority of dash cam owner's do not want.

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Elky! Yeah the positioning is interesting, really meant to simplify installation for DYI (by avoiding the air bags and reducing the length of the cable run). But yeah ideally a high position in the windshield (if allowed by local laws) away from sight would be preferable. I actually cover that on my other video here th-cam.com/video/F7OzM2i7ErE/w-d-xo.html and when professionally installed, avoiding air bags, cable runs, hardwiring (instead of OBD2) can easily be achieved. So I think you are right, the target customer for this product (considering cost, cloud, placement, HD video) was probably not clearly identified by Ring. Cheers!

    Sad. I wanted one but never received it

  • @GuyWhoReviewsStuff
    @GuyWhoReviewsStuff หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I had the Ring dashcam and it was absouleltly TERRIBLE. I will say the install was a breeze and using the OBD2 to power it was nice however the nightmares became with the software itself. The first thing I noticed and a few others did as well is for users with EV/Hybrid the dashcam seemed to not be able to sense the 12V battery in the cars and would NOT shut off and in return it was killing the 12V battery and causing the cars to go into deep sleep which kills main features like remote start etc.
    The second major thing was exporting clips and this is why I got rid of mine, If you wanted to review your drives it was PERFECT it has the whole video in a perfect timeline just like what you would have from the Ring doorbell of any of their cams, however if you needed to export any of that video it only allowed you to export 30 second clips and the time it took to export was so long and relied on your internet connection as you were actually pulling the footage from the cloud and having it sent to your phone.
    I was a witness of a drunk driver, the driver of this F250 was drunk as a skunk and blew through a intersection and hit 5 cars in total, 3 people were severely hurt, The drunk got out of his truck and looked around at the cars and quickly ran into a nearby parking lot. The police and highway patrol were needing my footage to see if they could get a description of the guy but since we were in a dead zone I could not pull ANY footage from the dashcam and I actually had to have a trooper follow me up a few blocks until I got service again in which he was able to relay what the guy was wearing and the police were able to arrest the guy. Now is here it got to be a major PIA because they needed ALL the footage from the time of the accident all the way until the police showed up and I was sitting there for a few hours because you can only download 30 second clips and I needed about 10 minutes of footage.
    In theory the Ring dahscam sounded great and the cloud service is what sold me so if I did come across a rouge cop or a thief that tried to shut down or take the SD card all the video was already in the cloud but the way the software was deployed was just poor. Till this day Ring has never once released any sort of software update for the dash cam......

      Thanks for sharing your story Taylor! Very interesting, the Nexar One I just reviewed has very similar drawbacks (software and the issue of pulling video from it) which I covered here th-cam.com/video/8bWYvNcam3M/w-d-xo.html Seems crazy to me that a Cloud dash cam in theory should let us have more access to video not less access. Hopefully we will see them improve but seems right now, that is one of the reasons Cloud dash cams are not that common, just too many holding them back. Cheers!

      You view it from your iphone, correct? You can record it using the record option on your iphone. I got into the same situation but the cops asked me to email it to them. I showed them the footage but was told to just email it. Then used the record option on my iphone and emailed it.

    The manufacturing excuse was exactly just that, an excuse. Manufacturing electronics is the least of their problem. I think the reason reason is something else which i dunno the amswer. But def not manufacturing.

    Ring dash cam should have a battery built in. Sucks draining the car battery.

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Putik! While some dash cams still use a battery, most are moving to Super Capacitors due to the limitations and dangers of batteries subjected to high temperatures (like the inside of a vehicle) For example here in California we experience really hot temperatures which I would not want to subject the battery to, that and the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car. Here is an example of a internal dash cam battery and what the sun did to it th-cam.com/video/HW8jqbl_ayU/w-d-xo.html and a video of battery related fire I personally experienced th-cam.com/video/XfWgJ8nu-RA/w-d-xo.html (destroyed the house) Cheers!
