You're a mad man sending it to the body shop and spending that money before even figuring out if the engine is salvageable.
Gonna have to happen at some point. If the engine is shot, a fully complete car would either be better for sale value or necessary anyway if we swapped the engine.
@TheInja bro end of the day, you have a McLaren in your garage which is way better then having a shitbox Civic. You can always swap engine if that's the case, and if money is an issue then take some money from your house mortgage.
#WhateverItTakes
Just realized all the smoke is probably from the fuel system cleaner additive I added to the fuel. Lol. Would explain no smoke, then suddenly smoke.
Makes sense, i hope it just needs some flushing the system with pure premium fuel
@@foxxyytofficial I bet it's a 99% probability that's the case
It wouldn’t do that if you added it directly to the fuel, if you added it to the intake, then yes. Especially when it’s smoking much more on one side.
Haven’t you added too much engine oil like all the other TH-camrs rebuilding McLarens did? They all seem to smoke the same way when too much oil is added to the system
@@Fstmfa I may have, yeah. Haven't been able to check the oil level yet, though, so can't really confirm that.
I think you did a great job on the rear diffuser. For not having a lot of experience you did a good job. Nobody will ever notice any of the defects once it’s installed.
Yeah it's not perfect but I'm not worried about it. Can't even see it under the car.
And obviously I'll be buffing it out heavily still, not done with it yet.
Maybe you should wrap it with CF vinyl to hide your crimes.
Fibreglass repair is very easy, i used to repair and rebuild milk floats, the cabs are all Fibreglass, at least they were 30 years ago. It was always rewarding to see them back on the road . It saves a lot of money too you could use a skim coat of filler to get a very good finish
I have done the fiberglass treatment to many of motorcycle fairings. I have restored a lot if older superbikes and the fairings are difficult to find undamaged. Learning to do fiberglass, JB Weld, and fiberglass clothe with superglue has been a game changer.
We need an update video on the White electric “Tesla” ice cream music playing bike!
I'll bring it back with my next motorcycle content! 🙌🏽
You never ever want to fiberglass over paint. That’s a crack waiting to happen again. Also, the glass itself is where you get your structural rigidity, since resin is brittle, you want to use as little of it as you can.
Also, when you are painting, you need to get closer and slow down! Base likes to be sprayed on at around 20-21psi and clear at around 28-30psi. When applying base, spray it so the panel has a little sheen to it. Make long smooth strokes with the fan almost all the way open at around 6-7” away with a 50-70% overlap (depending on how it’s laying out). When clearing, do pretty much the same thing, the first coat doesn’t have to be perfect but the second coat needs to be sprayed how you want it to look. Doing those few things will drastically cut down on orange peel. In a side note, clear can last quite a while, even if it’s old (as long as it hasn’t crystallized). The hardener however if it’s been opened, you really don’t want to use it after about a week, its ability to actually harden decreases significantly and will take much longer to cure the longer it’s been opened.
Overall it looks better than what it was but no way I would put it in the car. Garage wall art however.
What's the opposite of liking a comment? This one is stupid.
@@theupscriber65 Tell me you don’t know jack about the bodyshop/collision industry without telling me you don’t know jack about it.
Good tips, bro, thank you. 💯
There is stuff here we could criticise but your man here is doing it all himself. It takes some real guts to and his own money to even try a project like this so good in you son and I’m sure you’ll learn tons along the way.
Soaking it all up 👏🏽
You really should have applied finishing bondo and then high build primer sprayed through a gun.
Anyway least u have repaired it to a fashion but the car really deserves a proper repair.
Hell ya!!! Get those parts done!💪
I recommend sanding the fiberglass repair area before throwing new fiberglass on top. Other than the Crack the smooth area around it is not providing a good bond for the new fiberglass.
I don't know about others, but people will see it. Looking under a car that you've never been up-close-to, makes me want to see every part of it... but I'm a car guy, and it will be seen by car guys.
@beforebefore I agree. I've been rebuilding cars on my channel for about 8 years now and I could never let something like that slide. It would bug me too much
@@UnWrecked I'll enjoy the car just the same. It won't even be seen under the car.👌🏽
If you saw in the video (I did put in some super close up shots of it), I sanded it back down to the cracks. There is no fiberglass over paint.
@TheInja I saw you did that on the inside but the outside it looked like you just applied fiberglass in the crack and didn't sand around it. It's your build, do it however you want to man. I'm just saying what I would have did but it's not my build
Love the build man.i think u should have sanded both sides of the cracks because fibre glass prefer raw surfaces for better adhesion. Hope it turn out good though. Also love your review on those e bikes man.i think my country need them e bikes.gasoline price is kliier over here in trinidad.let me know if we could do something
you really should have roughed up that gel coat before trying to repair the cracks
Lesson learned.
Dang it cant wait for the inja bike👍☣️👍
Never seen someone patch fiber glass - cool to see!!
Great job on the under tray, I remember the first time you did fibber glass repair on your first wreck car. Great job Inja, looking forward to watch the new paint. And by the way the bike is gorgeous love that green color.
Congratulations on the bike
Love this channel. Inja you are the greatest. I hope you have a fire extinguisher with you at all times with this car. Please.
Great job buddy. I've been watching your channel grow and as a fellow tinkerer I've been really impressed watching you learn new skills that help others.
That’ll be a completely different car when you finally pick it up from the paint shop. I’m happy for you. 😁👍🏻
Appreciate it 💯 Can't wait to see it done!
Fibreglass should only be done from the back of the cover. This will help with structure. On the front side, cataloy to finish. Then painting will be so much better.
Good attempt and a couple of thousand dollars saved.
amazing paint booth, I like the way you know how to save money but still do a good job.
Nice work 💪🏻🙂 it’s so good that you made the repair of the down shild alone 🙂 when you explain how you make it it start looks more easy to be made 🙂 I learn some thing new from you thanks you
Great video! I am so behind on the 600LT....🤪
Your moving forward on your latest toy, and you got a new one accidentally that's easy to store.
We had to have mom's decent 08 PT Cruiser repaired after it got a minor rear ender. Insurance totaled it so we bought it back and the shop made us a deal to fix it cheaper with the payoff.
Because of that the guys worked on it over the weekends and it took a few weeks. It turned out really nice for a old low mileage daily driver.
Luckily we just kept the rental jeep a extra week for a deal.
It's getting close now and the engine isn't knocking so doubt it's really low oil pressure.
Nice ZX-14. I have a pretty blue 17 Concourse 1400. I call it my rocket couch 😂
Nice work! But that garage needs a fix! More shelfs, hanging for the bikes etc. Make more room, bench for tools etc 😄
Hey buddy, not sure if you've read my past comments in your prior videos, but you really need to stop running that motor until you find the cause of the oil getting into the combustion chambers. You need to pop off the intake manifold and see we're that oil and/or coolant is coming from. I mention coolant becuase the intercoolers are air to water and I've seen this sort of thing in other McLarens where the intercoolers get a crack and leak coolant and it gets into the combustion chambers. It's a really white smoke on camera, so I thought I'd throw that out there. But either way, you need to check the compression on all cylinders, to eliminate ring blow by (I'd actually do this second after removing intake manifold) . I also mentioned a laptop application you need to get (comes with usb/obd2 connection ) so you can really find out what's going on in real time and program the car. These use a special lithium battery and if your not replacing it with OEM you need this tool to tell the car your using a lead-acid battery instead. I'd love to help more, so don't be a stranger and let's chat. Take care
it doesn't really dissapate like coolant being burned off does. Oily smoke hangs around and dissipates pretty slowly. It looks like it's burning oil. But I agree, he needs to have the engine gone through. Cause it could be anything from a cracked block, to failed turbo seals.
Feel free to shoot me an email. injamotorcycles@gmail.com
Thanks for the advice dude!
I done real good on that repair Nice.
Awesome episode watching the tint process, you should try to paint in the longest straight line as possible and usually a half spray overlap I'm no pro either but I watch house of colors TH-cam channel and that's what I see them do last but not least that is a beautiful bike can't wait to see you work on and ride it
It’s gonna look sick when it’s done with paint. I would love to see a huge carbon wing on the back. Great job bro. I envy you. I would love to own one myself.
Your skills are definitely improving and your attention to detail and craftsmanship is damn good.
Well done. Cheers!
I guess we were watching two different videos 😂
@@MIUBHI007 eh, I'm still learning.
@@TheInja As long as you keep trying, you’ll never fail 👍
I notice the bike is a Kawasaki color is a Ninja? You got me with the sound effects 😂😂.
thats a damn cool paint tent, could prob use it at normal tent to
Great content. Looking forward to the Kawasaki videos.
Happy to help in your engine problem 👍 you definitely over filled with oil . You should be on to run it with correct oil fill level 👌👏👍🤪
Yeah I'm sure it's nothing huge.
Super bro
I didn’t know you rode a sport bike. That ZX14 is a fun bike. Especially in straight lines. :)
Yeah, I loved motorcycles back in college! Looking forward to jumping back in!
Great work so far! I wonder if the body shop guy is going to be like "This this this and this, okay you try..." and then steps away for a 2 hour lunch. I mean, upside, if he did just show you what to do any then ghost while you're in there with all his tools, you'd learn some new skills at least. lol
Yeah, that was the goal. Give him a fair deal and learn some things in the process.
Let’s go
No way would I have done a repair with a finish like that for a McLaren, hell no.
As if it's ever going to be seen
"Is that normal....."😂😂
Best line of the video. Haha
Hope it all goes well been following since the scambo great content 👍👍 small roller works better with glass work gets air out & leaves a smoother finish 👍👍🙏🇬🇧
Noted ✍🏼
You should carbon skin the diffuser. It would look amazing and structurally secure the part back together.
Not a bad idea.
@TheInja I've done that with all my parts from past cars, especially splitters, get a nice sized sheet and just lay about 2 or 3 layers, and the part is still stupid light but ridiculously strong 💪 hope to see you implement it in the upcoming videos 😁
You were 80% of the way to making a lower diffuser that didn't look like a teenage boy's face. I would strip down that bad clear, sand that thing flat and use glaze to make a diffuser you'll be proud of when that car is on a lift.
Be careful that ‘high quality’ stainless steel windscreen could be a guillotine in a high speed crash
U can always sell it to tavarish
I can imagine you rollin up to one of your gigs in a McLaren and the people that hired you wondering if they're paying too much, lol.
Or they wonder how I can charge so little and still drive a car like that!
@@TheInja Touché, lol.
Put a small layer of body filler on the fiber glass repair. Since you have to repaint it anyways
I think it looks good and no way anyone will notice when it’s on the car. Also be really careful on that bike!
No doubt! Thanks bro!
Great project you nailed that diffuser repair but the smoke coming out the engine is scary, hope its nothing major.
Dude, that smoke must be a concern.
The fact that you are okay with the way the defuser came out, and ready to put it on the car!
Tells me you will never get better at doing that type of work!
I would be embarrassed to even do that to a Hyundai!
Let alone say i fixed it!
Oh please
that bikes screen is one crash away from turning into a gilotine! jeez who would do that?!
Please do better job on the rear diffuser just used a layer of bondo sand it used real primer lol and spayed with the compressor. Like 8 hands and wet sand and paint it again with good new clear coat 😅😊 good luck
That rear diffuser makes you look like you should change your channel name to "McLarenarossa" (get it?). Fixed to be functional but not to look good...
I’m loving your build - but there must be something I’m missing about the tint on the windshield. So if it gets tinted before it goes on the car, doesn’t that mean that it will really be the tint film that is bonded to the car and not the actual glass?
ABSOLUTELY... they should have trimmed it back away from the bonding area!
There was a clear shot of him cutting around the edges haha
@@beforebeforethey did
👍
Just use body filler on those uneven surface
I have a)600 amg 1998 . Nice
.
If that tint was applied all the way to the corners, good luck with that glass staying on!
😂😂😂😂
You don't know how tint is installed do you
I like Goooooooooooooold!
Nice job! I know that chopped fiberglass mat and basic resin is easy to get and use, but you might also consider fiberglass cloth and resin that’s specifically made to yield stronger and more long-lasting repairs. In the past I built both fiberglass aircraft and boats-and never once used chopped mat, as certain types of fiberglass cloth, resin, and layup procedures were called out by the manufacturer. Not a criticism, just a suggestion…
Appreciate the tip, thanks!
That shirt you got on, is that the ol Chinese electric car company BYD? That’s their slogan home boy.
"Build Your Dreams" company name
"Build your dream" channel slogan. Made that slogan a lonngggg time ago before I knew of byd.
Doesn't it make more sense to sort out the engine issues, before doing body work? You could be just putting a tuxedo on a huge turd.
Yeah, I'm hoping that not the case. But paint would need to get done no matter what, this order worked best for my other daily schedule.
I did a huge turd in my tuxedo while on the dance floor at a friend’s wedding. Bit too much homemade cider!
pimpjuice
My guess is that the bottom end bearings are damaged contaminated the oil and taking out turbos there by causing it to smoke like that. Had happened to me
shorts, and fiberglass, what were you thinking? lol
i see a KAWASAKI ZX14. nice. i love my 2019 ZX14R.
Sweet bike for sure. 🤘🏽
To save time and money just send it to body shop.
Save time, maybe, not money
Had you also this Airbag fault „B1BE14A
Active
Occupant restraint controller car configuration mismatch“
I dont know what to do on my McLaren MP4-12C.
18:15 No way! Is that really the origin of 'Inja'?
Yep, pretty close!
I thought it was Against the law to tint front winsheled
Not if your eyes are sensitive to light
Looking great
You need a new diffuser my friend
We'll see.
Bruh! You glassed over paint. The only part of that glass that will stick is where the exposed glass was, I love this build and I don't criticize any of the other work but damn...
If it doesn't hold, I'll do it again
@@TheInja keep pressing forward, love the process.
did they tint the windshield all the way down to the glue stripe? Gluing it in and only being held in by a thin membrane seems...sketchy.
Obviously not
Perfect video i like it this build
I dig what you're doing with the car ! But what's with the tattoo !? I mean, it suddenly disappeared between shots ? 😄
It's one of those super high-end tattoos that only is visible indoors
I think the smoke from the engen is not normal anymore because it does not stop smoking. 🤔🤔🤔 What do you think ?
I don't mean to criticize your work, it's much better than I could ever do, but this car deserves a better-repaired or new diffuser, you can still see a lot of repair marks.
I'm sure if you buy a new one he will take it
Send him about 35,000 to help repair it or STFU.
Looks pretty terrible. Lol
But it’s his car and he can do what he wants.
Did he used some putty over the fiberglass repair? I think he should make it again, because clear coat is also cloudy etc. Maybe imperfections came through after black paint or it made them visible. I would do it again and make it perfect
If you can see those imperfections under the car, you've got bigger problems to worry about in that moment.😂☠
you don't have to always shoot B-roll of the car every time it changes location.
15:52 I really hope they didn't tint the windshield to the edges where you're supposed to lay the glue......
Don't think they did. Not their first rodeo! But if they did I can just cut around it again and peel that off before installing it.
so many weird choices lmao. body shop before engine is fixed. not sanding before fibreglass. spraying the rear diffuser instead of just doing the repair and dropping it off with the rest of the car for paint. tinting the windscreen before installing it. what are we doing lol
- paint needed whether engine is shot or not.
- it'll hold fine. Haha.
- tinting a windshield before installing is common.
@@TheInja what does the glue stick to? I think I'd want the glue holding onto the glass directly. we'll see i guess
yo
@6:48 The messed up part here is that my neighbor is doing some fiberglass work next door and my window was open so I have some smell-o-vision going on here...
Way too much resin and no air removal
Is it me or did they tint that screen right to the edge? If that have that tint around the edge will need to come off before it fitted
This isn't their first rodeo
@@TheInja who cutting the tint off before it's bonded in? It going back them or the fitters removing it.
@@vxracing380 you ...did.... see the specific shot of him cutting around the edges...right?
@@TheInja to me it looks like he tinted right to the edge of the glass
Why would you screw that stupid thing on outside of diffuser? Why not inside or not at all
I don't wanna be "that" guy - but *!!!NEVER!!!* ever sand fiberglass without PPE - an FFP2 at least, a respirator at best. You really don't want microscopic glass fiber dust in your lungs.
I bet even when out of factory there would be imperfections so great job on the diffuser
Yeah, I know it's not perfect but it's also under the car, so 🤷🏽♀️
Thanks dude!
You need to work more on your fiberglass skillz... 😢, if it were me I'd redo the diffuser I'd sand it back down and do it all over again
Dude you’re lucky not having karen neighbors complaining about everything where i live if i cut something with the grinder right away they’re bitching.

when did you get the zx14
I think in mid March

What model of McLaren is this?
650S
You do all the hard shit yourself but scared to tint your own window?
Could have done it I'm sure, but also just wanted to verify it was good tint/installed right, because I'll be looking through it every time I drive.
why spend money on body when you dont know if you engine is any good? if you have to pull the engine you might harm the new body work
I'm too far into the project at this point not to finish it, at any cost.
Granted that skid plate looks cherry!
But what about a bed liner?
That would make it super tough and scratch resistant!
That repair is an absolute mess. Sand it flat and get a bit of filler on it and flatten it then paint it. I wouldn’t be happy putting that on a go cart never mind a McLaren. Do it right or don’t do it. And it doesn’t matter that it’s under the car. ☹️
Ypur oil was shot because of e85. Did you syfin the gas tank? Next find a manual way to measure oil pressure..your car has a tune i bet ..n u may need a oil pump
Yeah I'll have to look into that. Been thinking that may be the problem.
@TheInja look into emf auto. He does mclaren tuning. They do funky stuff with the stock on the wheel to change from tune to tune (maps) watch the 12c one were they put a tune in it and they show how to bounce from tune to tune. (Uses rpm to dictate witch map is selected) if it has old e85 it definitely has a tune. Hopefully the low oil is a senser or wire?
