Nice video! I love Porsches and I love Japan, so the combo is gold. Subscribed and excited for more videos. It baffles me that the largest city in the world is basically dead in the morning 😮
Best to drive around in order to warm up the engine. Warming the engine at idle is not advised due to uneven heating in the engine. Also, switch to a very heavy oil. That can prolong your engine, though it may cause a slight reduction in gas mileage.
@@Sithhy Thicker oil leaves a bit of oil in the cylinder walls when the car is powered off. So when doing cold starts, the cylinders have lubrication available immediately from that residue, until the rest of the oil travels from the oil pan and the oil lines. Less scratches on the engine block/cylinder walls=prolonged engine life.
I can relate to the smell of car and the memories. Senses are a powerful thing. I watch the beginning of the video and i can smell and feel the city again. Waking up in the early AMs in Takadanobaba and walking around before the summer heat really kicks. A big boss iced latte and a cinnamon roll. I wish i had been able to make it to the PAs on the bayshore but i did walk around in the UDX parking, it had a couple fancy cars but i shot some cool pictures outdoors mostly.
I enjoyed this video, informative and in my favorite car. I would suggest a microphone and an external mount camera (2nd) would improve viewing experience.
I have a 01 986 Boxster S. I totally agree about the transmission, the car drives so much different cold verses warm, too the point where for me it would almost be impractical to daily drive due to amount it needs to be babied on cold start.
This is such a cool, chill format. I really hope you get that garage you were eyeing! Also, I think this will be a great idea for videos. Once you get a good cam/mic setup, this will be amazing
Hi, this is Masashi who met you at Ohahako touring event in a couple of moths ago. Coincidentally I found you in TH-cam. Its nice and please keep uploading!
Best not to let it idle for too long Willis. Low revs are not advised at warm up. I just changed all three chain tensioners on my 99 and the ticking is gone. I would try and take off the oil pan and look for debris. You can also check your cam deviations with a Durametric. Changing the tensioners is easy on the bottom two but the top one requires moving the ac compressor to the side. Thanks for the vid!
Im running 10-40 with moly additive. I see Porsche developed a 5-50 for this car.. I’ll run it next time and see. I’ve got the magnetic drain plug and cut the filter every time. Been thinking about the Durametric as well.
Fantastic video! I've just subscribed to your channel. It would be wonderful if you could explore more of the city center in your next drive. Also, consider stepping outside to showcase different cars around the area (if there are any cool cars obviousy ;) ) -it would add a great touch to your content! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the kind words 🙏. Lots of special cars in Tokyo. I usually capture them and upload as TH-cam shorts or on my Instagram @best_japan_supply . Two videos coming out about Porsche Experience Center, Tokyo and visiting a Porsche specialty shop with my son in Yokohama.
Thank you for the good video! I live in Tokyo and own a right-hand drive 987cayman. And, I'm thinking about switching to a left-hand drive 996 Carrera gen 1. Both are good.
I personally think that use of car cover is not advisable unless car comes straight out of wash and car is parked on a spot wheres literally 0 wind. Meaning like underground car park. No matter how expensive or soft car cover, there will always be dust and stuff between paint and the car cover thus scratching the paint when there's even slight movement on the car cover. No matter how tight it is, its always moving in some parts.
hi there love the 996 looks really gorgeous! I actually have a question about driving in Japan, are the rules and regulations difficult to follow ? (assuming I can't speak the language) I travel to Japan every now and den for holiday and was thinking of keeping a car there for me to use when I'm there with family.
I don’t think so. The difficult part for me was the driving on the left hand side. I needed to stay completely focused. Now it’s the opposite, when I go back to California I need to be pay attention. What car are you thinking?
ive always wanted to drive in japan but have always been worried about the language barrier, for example like Reading road signs, parking instructions or renewing the registration of the car in japanese, they seem to be quite complicated. Looking into a 911 as well maybe 991.2 or 992 ..
Just stumbled across your channel. I'm doing research on moving to Tokyo from the USA. I have a 993 and cannot part with it. It will be coming with me. I was just in Tokyo about 3 weeks ago. How difficult was it for you to adjust to driving on the opposite side of the road with a left-hand drive car?
@@antoniosamuel819 it takes a bit getting used to. I cycled around the city for awhile before I got my Japanese drivers license. It helped. Just need to stay conscious when driving at all times. For me know it’s opposite, have to be on my toes when back in the US! Let me know if I can help you in anyway!
Great watching your vids dude. I lived/worked in Asia 20+ years ago...as a longtime Porsche owner, I was always on the lookout for Porsches when on assignment over there! Did you ship your 996 to Japan or find/buy it there? Nice 996.1. I owned a 2002 996.2 Carrera Cab...great car. My current cars are 2016 GT4 & 2018 Macan commute car. My first Porsche was a 1970 911T coupe...owned from 1992-1999. Then, a 1979 911SC Targa, followed by a 2000 Boxster S... followed by a 2014 911 Turbo coupe. As you can see...I'm a total Porschephile! 😂
Glad you enjoyed it! It’s a Japan spec car I bought in Yokohama. LHD optioned! Awesome! I got started with my dad’s 1972 911T! Definitely looking to add to the collection 👍
Right. Once you start stiffening engine mounts etc you start to feel it. Also 20yr old dual mass technology vs new. My brother has a modified genesis coupe and he is having trouble with the DMF as well.
God the roads are the best... I really love go out with my c180 mb but the worst part of all is that in my country (peru) the strets and roads are fully of holes and traffic.
Does the clicking engine noise indicate the possibility of bore scoring? I used to hear that sound on my 996 C4S back in the day and always wondered...
Could you do a video tour of all the crazy car dealerships in Tokyo?! Or Car spotting in Tokyo! Those would rack up views if you title them properly and use good thumbnails!
@@WKBaker4 Bingo Sports tour, take a trip to Tsukuba circuit for a track day, Daikoku Futo Parking Area on the weekends, Ebisu circuit for the drift racing scene, if you e-mail/call the Nismo Omori factory you can be given a tour of the facility especially considering you have a TH-cam channel, Fun2Drive lets you rent legendary JDM cars, there are tons of model/diecast stores in Akhihabara too, Aston Martin's biggest dealership on Earth is in Tokyo I believe, just car spotting in Ginza!! Your channel will take off by then and you can then cover the car scene all over Japan! I'm sure by then you'll be getting paddock passes to 6 hours of Fuji/Super Formula races too!
The quality of the roads all no potholes, no bump stops, the painted signs in each one of them is incredible.. That is what impress me the most..
