Hairpin Bends on Yercaud Ghat Road Gets the Name of Tamil Kings, Scholars & Freedom Fighters
Tourists hitting the ghat road leading to Yercaud from Salem city were in for a sweet surprise as the walls of the hairpin bends spot the names of Tamil rulers, scholars, and freedom fighters.
20 hairpin bends :-
The ghat road comprises 20 hairpin bends and all of them have been lent names of distinguished individuals, who served for the development of the Tamil society and the country, by the Tamilnadu Highways Department. It was the first time that hairpin bends, which bore only numbers -1, 2... etc., were given any name.
Renowned Persons:-
The State Highways Department, under the instructions of the TamilNadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, honoured imminent Tamil scholars including Kavichakravarthi Kambar, Avvaiyar, Thiruvalluvar, Ilango Adigal, Kabilar, Paranar and Mahakavi Bharathiar; saint and seer Ramalinga Adigalar; great warriors and kings Cheran Senguttuvan, Karikala Cholan, Vallal Paari, Pandiya Nedunchezhian, Dheeran Chinnamalai, Cheran Senguttuvan, Velu Nachiyar, Veerapandia Kattabomman and Thagadoor Adhiyaman; Indian freedom fighters Vanchinathan, V.O. Chidambaram Pillai, Tirupur Kumaran and Subramania Siva at the hairpin bends.
The unexpected move has been welcomed with open hands by the locals and touring visitors alike.

The initiative, besides honoring the Tamil greats, would raise awareness about the eminent Tamil scholars, saints, seers, rulers, warriors and revolutionary freedom fighters among the X-generation, observed several visitors touring the hill station for attending the five-day annual flower show and summer festival.
