Thanks for the shout out! I think you might have a winner there! I try to stab them fairly low on the bale. You're right, you'll need to come up with a way to know the spears are level from the seat. I use a skid steer so that's not an issue for me. Happy bale gathering!

I think that will work out ok. You could also weld in a sleeve for a bale spear into that backing plate you have now and use a regular bale spike if needed. It would only cost a little over $100 that way if you have means to get the sleeve welded in.

Thanks! I was thinking about attaching a skid steer quick hitch to it so I could use a spear, forks and bucket.

You're doing the right thing in my opinion. I have a MF 65 that had a homemade loader with a bucket on it and my brother-in-law made a point for it. Similar to you, I didn't like how it kept the bale so far away, there is also a better chance of the bale rolling over the bucket. Good luck with it, I think you got it going right now. Thanks for sharing, I hope you have a nice day!

I use a ford 4000 since 1977 to carry 4x4 rounds l have a very similar manure bucket to move bales. I put my tines one in from the out side a little wider maybe more stable on our sidehills. I have a set of pallet forks on the rear to add ballast to carry the extra bale to the wagon or barn l like to slide under the bale it seems to work better for me than the fat spear on rear trying to penetrate the bale Every one has their way that is best for them. Once the tines get shined up they go in and come out easy. I also carry haylage bales with the same tines. I like the tinelength the best. Good luck baling this year

That was a good idea to try that before going a different route.

Certainly a big improvement for carrying those round bales. .. Will that old spear mount to a three point hitch somehow? Then you can drive two bales at a time back to the barn. .. If you affix one of those fiberglass driveway snow markers to the back side of the bucket shell you will more easily see the angle of the shell and thus know where the spears are from the tractor seat.
